Because that's what it fucking is, right? Adam and Eve were just people living in Paradise, being themselves, even if Paradise is some weird alien construct they don't understand they're stuck within, so they get a hold of this Apple and suddenly they not only see the control scheme around them, but they and their progeny are able to exercise control over others. And all civilization is a development of that control, for good and bad, and sometimes a control weapon emerges so you have some far-sighted peaceful killers who know how and when to snuff that out. So whyyyyyyyyyy don't they go with that? Or is that the subtext?
