I think the remasters are fine, good even. But not worth the asking price the parent company is putting on them. Removing the purchase option for the actual original version of a game and only include it in the remaster just to justify the price is also really fucking shitty and almost antithetical to their founding philosophy.

That's what DGVoodoo is for. Something you drop into your steam folder, set up the parameters and then just launch regularly from steam (or your gog library or whatever). It's not always ideal when you scale things to widescreen resolutions as the UI is tiny sometimes. But it's never been a deal breaker for me.
I suppose the remasters could be rock bottom shit like how The Commandos series was treated but i don't know when Nightdive remasters specifically will start showing their value other than having brought some console games to PC.

Decent remasters/rereleases for the most part if you need one (you're a consoletard or the game you're trying to play is truly difficult to get working in 2026) but I hate all the shilling and glazing.
Also any new art they add tends to be very mediocre and not up to the standards of the original assets (and definitely isn't going to blend in stylistically) but that's a problem with modern indie game art and especially pixel art in general.

Aspyr's crime was being lazy in using lazy AI upscaled textures and in the case of Deus Ex being the worst one ever where they screwed up all the models, environment textures and then made a severe clash with the lighting. They screwed up one of those older Star Wars games ports a long time ago. Otherwise it's not that much different to Nightdive since they themselves have done flawed remasters.

Why have they focused on Blood so much (released twice) when the source ports were already fine? NotBlood is the most near flawless version of the game you can play outside of dosbox.
I would scratch my head if they were to even consider Shadow Warrior when VoidSW does a fine job too and you're not missing that much outside of dosbox. It might not be as accurate as NotBlood but it seemed to function correctly when i played it. Outside the minor sprite fix you have to make on the katana for widescreen.

It's one of those games i really wanted to like but its flaws were too hard to ignore. I can enjoy it at times whilst being completely frustrated with it other times. Perhaps its a step up from their later works but not by much.
Dishonored was basically just poor mans Thief casualized shitty mess that wasn't concerned with being a competent stealth game. Prey 2017 was a mediocre System Shock clone. Death Loop was complete trash.
They never did anything right other than kicking orcs off cliffs simulator.

I liked Deadly Shadows which Harvey Smith expressed regret in working on i believe. I don't know why they flipped so hard from having worked on a real stealth game to what they later came up and never even thought to listen to the people who liked Thief for the second game in the series/improving on the issues with the first games mechanics. Whilst TTDS (thi3f) was not perfect it was miles ahead of Dishonored.
It still had advanced sound propagation and dynamic lighting based detection. My issue is primarily with this part. I'm not exactly the biggest fan of cover based-line of sight detection to begin with because it's my belief that shadow based model allows for more interesting stealth gameplay. I'm more in favor of light and shadow based detection. But what makes their own developmental preferences for their design far worse was the gutted sound detection model.
The Thief games (splinter cell included for the stealth genre) have variable movement speed based sound detection that uses a movement based toggle key bind that is used to move across surfaces at the appropriate speed otherwise it determines whether enemies in the area will hear it. Instead with Dishonored it replaces any aspects of slower movement with crouch walk and because of that all sound is uniform nor is there any specific mechanic that translates any of that into the same thing.
There is also absolutely no differentiation in floor surface sounds too so from principle alone it wasn't concerned with being a good stealth game. You can walk on a supposed to be loud stone floor surface to a carpet and it will sound exactly the same in Dishonored and it also corresponds the same with the AI.

Yeah, I really do wish the light-based and sound-based systems of Thief and Splinter Cell would get utilized more in games.
I still liked Dishonored for what it is, but its certainly no hardcore stealth game.
