Where are the space combat games?
>>736454948Uh, bro? Your Battlefleet Gothic Armada? Your Starsector? Your Rogue Trader?
>>736454948EVE online
>>736454948Flotilla
>>736455759LotGH pushed me into playing that but I stopped myself
Starsector
>>736454948X4 and if you prefer PvP then Elite:Dangerous
>>736454948there you go
>>736460094Space Battleaxes are cooler.
>>736454948Freespace 1 and 2
>>736460156Did they ever explain this? Non-swords in popular media is already extremely rare.
>>736460553Melee combat exists in LoGH because both sides release zephyr particles inside ships when they are boarded. They explode if firearms are used, it is a deliberate choice to force melee weaponry and to slow the attack enough for defenders to mount a response. As for why axes in particular, probably because anything less would not cut down those armored suits.
>>736460553guns putting holes in walls is a bad idea when boarding space ships, until they just use guns anyway so the real reason is it looks cool
>>736454948The Empire just conqured the Free Planets Alliance in my watch. I'm surprised there's still so much left.
>>736460683>zephyr particlesZephyr particles are gay and LoGH is lesser because of them.
>>736460683Melee weaponry would be preferred because the panzer armor excels against lazors, so kinetic is the only way to reliably stop them.
>>736461463I literally watched this scene two minutes ago please stop observing what I do it's very rude
Classic Battlefront 2 has space battlesRebel galaxyFreelancerDarkstar one broken alliance
>>736461601Does Free Space count?
>>736454948I wish I were smart enought for startegy games.
>>736454948Starwars Empire at War. Even if you don't like Starwars, the base campaign and mods give it plenty of content.
>>736457094The weird stories surrounding it, the lore and the pretty visuals grabbed me in, but the actual gameplay is the most mind numbing boredom thats borderline torture in some cases. The grind was fucking hell, and you couldn't look away from it otherwise you would get killed and lose your shit.Same with transporting anything somewhere that was far more than 5 jumps. All the fun i had was with talking with people who somehow had the humor of a 5 year old toddler, a redditor with an unironic fedora that would stalk you, and the ocassional fag who would turn the new player help tab into the nearest thing to a general chat, because apparently since spam exists the game will have a chat for every instance you can possibly make except of a General chat window. And if you wanted to play with someone, everyone would tell you to just join a corp. And if you did, chances are that the corp is dead, with only one active guy that shows up at 3am during 30 minutes and leaves.I liked the lore, but actually playing EvE is so mindnumbly boring that even playing some obscure gacha game with discord on the background recreates the same effect, but somehow better, because at least there would usually be someone terminally online who uses discord so constantly you at least have someone to talk to, instead of hoping around dead systems with barely 1-2 guys that will ignore you or just kill you on sight, Jita on full spam mode, dead corp chats, and faggots being retards in advice for new players. The grind is horrible, you feel fucking lonely all the time to the point talking with a retard is considerated "fun", and your progress depends on waiting or staring at the PC as after you calculated the maximum output of your potential reward for your grind, and repeated for several hours. THEN, you can afford a ship that you might lose in 5 seconds, or a ship that you absolutely never undock.Even its shitty mobile PvP empire builder was more fun, and that was some dogshit gacha
>>736454948Some jap is making a stellaris mod. Otherwise there's homeworld.
i dropped logh twice. once shortly after yang dies. and once, around episode 60.i enjoy the show a lot but it's also a slow burn, so i guess that's why i drop it.
>>736461463>one off scene during the final stretch>the implication that these kinds of things were happening at scale for potentially hundreds of yearsGrim
>>736454948>infinite expanse of space>faggots fight in close formation dying in droves
>>736454948>live in a world where weapons are so strong that one hit can destroy your ship>lets all stay in easily targetable formations Morons. Fools.
Dead.
>>736464353Wish there was a CK mod
>>736460553They fill the spaces with magic particles that explode in contact with energy weapons so neither side can fire guns
>>736459924Does X4 have good combat? All the previous X games had a terrible flight model.
>>736465101I'm on my second watch. I tried ages ago and dipped out around all the Julian goes to Earth stuff not cause I didn't like the show I was just distracted by something else. I'm gonna make a real effort to finish it this time. It's a very solid show.
>>736465101The original run was 11 years, pace yourself.
>>736466112>>736466345Its an allegory for Napoleonic warfare you illiterates.
>>736455023>40k slop
>>736466112Lightspeed nigga. If you get jammed you have to be close enough that you can reliably communicate with other ships without too much lag.
>>736455023what this anon said but mostly starsector
>>736466345Maybe they can piggyback each other shield generators or there's fleet equipment like shield matrixes/alcubierre hyperdrive bubble/ antimissilenscreeners/ communicational arrays logistical-neuralgical semicircle centers that facilitate that sort of thing?
The perfect woman.
>>736460094>Space combat from small arms rangeRevolting
>>736461375I think the idea is cool.Like imagine a world where everyone uses flamethrowers. Tell me it wouldn't be cool to flood a fortress with natural gas so everyone has to wear oxygen masks and fight with axes under the threat of mutual destruction if anyone uses modern weaponry.
>>736466112It's explained better in the books. Jamming technology is so good you basically have to maintain visual contact with your side and the enemy to have any chance of communication or knowing who to shoot and who not to.
>>736454948Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion and 2. There's even a LoGH mod for Rebellion.
>>736469258You could do that today and achieve a similar effect against using guns. The only wrinkle is that traditional weaponry will still produce sparks on impact and blow everything up.
>>736460683>>736466562Wouldn't boarding a ship be suicide 100% of the time? Why wouldn't one of the last couple of defenders, once the battle for control of the ship is hopelessly lost, not just fire a gun and kill all the attackers in a blaze of glory?
>>736466907It's analogous not allegoric
https://youtu.be/pCEo3YAgZe8
>>736466438freespace 2 was pretty good.
>>736471220Yes, that is a very real risk that is only narrowly avoided because the defenders would rather win.In real life too. During a boarding the defenders would often try to sink their own ship rather than allowing it to be captured.
