I vibe-coded a Sonic game with actual momentum physics without any coding knowledge for fun 'cause i was bored and Sega still can't add Momentum physics to modern sonic games.
https://files.catbox.moe/k0m4qi.zip
Here's the game, the map's kinda broken but it's pretty much a full fledged wip build of a fan-made sonic engine.

It probably just took all the code from the Sonic Bumper Engine that fans have already made. Otherwise I doubt it would have actually made anything playable.
>>
slopnic slop, oh yeah! that's what we need more of!
>>
>>736465873
There's also a bug where momentum is only really gained when moving to the side or at an angle that i honestly didn't really care to fix since it's just a dumb ai sonic game lol who cares
but i'll fix it just cause i posted it here now.
>>
>>736466405
Outside of Spark and Sonic GT has anything noteworthy actually released with the bumper engine? I know there's that rollin rascal and the black girl game that gets shilled here in development, but they may never come out
>>
>>736466405
It is very much inspired by Sonic GT's momentum behavior, but i doubt it took the code.
it's spaghetti as fuck anyways so I don't know
It took a lot of prompts to get it like this, this was one of the first builds

Slopnic is an amazing name, thank you.

It requires loading an external model of Sonic using a browser feature that isn't enabled by default but i'll try.
if it still requires to have that browser feature I won't do it

here it is, it's of an updated version though since i'm currently enslaving gemini into making momentum better.

--allow-file-access-from-files
It just feels dumb to ask people to do this just to play slopnic lmaomlafo
>>
>>736467724
Oh, you should be able to replace the file access with a network request to fetch the model once you have both the code and the model hosted somewhere on the internet. That's how most people do it.
>>736467664
You could put this on github, they will store your code (and model) and let you deploy it to a website for free as long as it is open source.
https://docs.github.com/en/pages/getting-started-with-github-pages/what-is-github-pages
There might be better free static website hosts out there but that was the first that came to mind.

Every single time i tried to add them, it broke something.
I'll tried to add them later

Also, i'm dumb as shit, i tried to fix the momentum when it turns out, the momentum's completely fine, it's just that the mapping and slopes aren't done in the ai generated terrain

here's the game from the exe

Tbh, i'm really learning a lot from "developing" this game.
First off, vibe coding is just never gonna be really viable to fully make games, it's too unpredictable, and really does limit the scope of your project unless you spend hours and hours prompting and prompting.

while normal coding is also kinda unpredictable a times, being able to add anything you want you way you want it, and making sure everything is HOW you want it is, so no matter how good vibe coding gets, it's just never gonna be as good or viable imo.

Looks better than the Sonic X-treme on the Sega Saturn hardware. Keep at it and ignore the haters.
>>
>>736469120
That is why you also use AI to teach you about programming and computer science. Then you'll know what to do and how to do things and be able to prompt it for code better. Over time of copying, pasting, and tinkering with scripts, you are sure to pick up on some patterns. AI is probably the best tool for programming if used properly, it does what IDEs were trying to do for a long time.
>>
Oh yeah, I actually vibe-coded a pac-man action game too
Unlike the sonic game, this one's actually pretty good ngl, it's a fun time waster with lots of options and abilities
kinda proud of it desu kek
it also has an easter egg, you can either look at the code to find it or just somehow find it yourself with no hints
https://files.catbox.moe/mmurjt.zip
>>
>>736469394
I might actually like just fully publish this one to a site or something, here's a screenshot
forgot to mention this one's actually just html
>>
>>736469120
Vibe coding does the easy grunt work. If you already know a specific function that needs to be added and can describe its inputs and outputs perfectly, or are making a new feature that is 95% similar to an existing one, it's really good at that. If you're trying to use it to something novel or trying to get it to do something 100% end to end, it will fail.

That said, last year it wasn't even good at the most basic of tasks so we'll see where it is next year. In the course of a year I went from writing 90% of my code to having 90% written by AI so I don't know what to expect.
>>
finally got it working on a website
https://slopnicplayground.netlify.app
>>
>>736470040
Please note, this game isn't actually that great, but it is funny and kinda impressive.
the slopes and everything isn't really mapped right, so some stuff is gonna look weird and you might not gain momentum when it looks like you should because the slope's collisions or whatever aren't how they actually look
>>
>>736469078
this looks worse than sonic forces

and for sonic uhhhh yeah idk
best i can do is drop the html with the model included in the zip file
https://files.catbox.moe/ji92af.zip
>>
Also this is completely unrelated to vibe coding
But what were the project hero devs thinking?
They turned a modern styled sonic game with great physics and movement into yet another classic sonic 3D game, which ended up just killing the project

Pure vibe coding is great for setting up a "scaffolding" in some engine or language that you don't know. I used it to make the battle mode for a Paper Mario clone in Monogame in like a couple hours. I'm a software engineer by profession though, so I probably have a shitload easier time prompting reasonable things. I also use Claude extensively at work now despite being an AI skeptic at first, which is why I thought to try it out for game development.

I still don't have the time or energy to make a full real game though, which is the main thing I've learned each time I try to do game dev. I like playing games, not making them.
>>
>>736469120
I would try telling AI to use a game engine next time, should be easier to learn from the code that way rather than having to decipher a monolithic clusterfuck of a single HTML file (which AI loves to default to).
>>736470449
>>736470757
If the project is under 1GB you should be able to use GitHub Pages or Render, they have much less shitty usage limits.

I kind of want to vibe code a Resident Evil fixed camera clone, but with real time graphics and online multiplayer.
Basically, I want to remake Outbreak. I don't know how feasible it is. I'm doing a Mega Man X clone and its scary how close it got on the first prompt.

It's actually paying the "marketing" team and reserving a generous cut for the CEO. Honestly the biggest advancement AI can make in the gaming industry is to replace CEOs
