Do y'all hack in rare candies to save time or do you play legit?
not only do i hack in rare candies, but i also hack in IV's, EV's, natures, moves, and additional TM's every single playthroughi also make sure to only use my favorites too
>hack inWhy bother? Exp Share is on from the start now so it's trivial to keep pokemon leveled compared to the stupid bullshit you used to have to do before you got Exp All/Exp Share, and the game shits out those experience crystal things at you so it's easy to juice up a new pokemon if you want to be strong or just nudge it to its evolution threshold.
>>736475213>fan partsthe grind is the fan part, without the grind you will not have the satisfaction and pokemon is a trash holded from becoming good by nintendah licensing that leading to the lack of competition
>>736475213>hack in rare candies to save time>in pokemonWhat is there that is so painful you need to hack in rare candies to skip? I'm not a diehard pokemon fan but I can't think of a single point in the games that would have hacking in rare candies being a better solution than just bum rushing through it.
No, I just cut out the middleman emtirely by opening up Paint and drawing the words "U WIN AT EVERYTHING" so I can get my dopamine rush and be happy for about five seconds before I need my next hit.
The grind is part of the game. Rare candies also remove significant risk from grinding inb4 duuurrrr just kill level 5 mons for 100 hours. No, grinding without rare candies is a balancing act of realistic xp gain and risk. It is part of the challengeIn short, you didn’t beat the game.
I save more time by not playing at all
>>736475385you can almost never fight wild pokemon that give enough exp to feel worth your time

>>736475342Op is baiting. It's mainly people playing nuzlockes and challenge runs while adhering to a level cap, usually the level of the next gyms ace. So they don't over level, they just use them to save time grinding low level mons up to cap every single gym.
Pokemon games are easy to the point where they can be cleared with one overpowered sweeper, you don't need to level them up any more than you would naturally from experience.
>>736475458>>736475494I say both these things
>>736475213>to save timeJust get another hobby
>>736475605But the fun parts of pokemon are still playing. Killing 1000 bidoofs is not any more fulfilling than using candies
>>736475675still worth playing I mean
>>736475213Actually using a ton of rare candies is a pain as well. If you're going to hack then just hack the level directly.
>>736475213Every pokemon romhack has infinite rare candies and imposes level caps. This is apparently how single player pokemon is played these days. All HMs are removed and instead you're given a key item that does field moves for you.Remember the optimal way of playing Pokemon Gen 1-4 is to overlevel your starter, use three HM slaves, and have the cover art Legendary be your backup if your starter faints.
>>736475213Pokemon is all about rasing the Pokemon. If you're cheating in 999 rare candies "to skip grinding" you're not actually playing Pokemon. You're just interested in the ascetics of playing Pokemon.
>>736475213Nah, I just abuse ACE to set Pokemon to level 100 right away. Rare candies take too long to use.
>>736475787*aesthetics
>>736475213theyre easy enough without rare candies
>>736475495That's retarded, just play normally if you think the challenge run is too hard without grinding
>>736475213I just used rare candies on whatever my starter pokemon was and plowed through the game with just it. Every other pokemon was a HM slave or resbot
>>736475213The best romhacks have level caps depending on your progress but also allow infinite rare candies so you can mix up your team for different fights.
If you just skip the leveling, you really start to see the bare, flimsy skeleton of the single player campaign in these game. I really noticed this big time in Sword and Shield. The excess candies from the online content in the wild areas just let you blow through the main game, which was incredibly bare bones and flavorless.
>>736475213If you are not even playing the game like a rpg why not just use showdown? Training doesn't matter, catching doesn't matter and showdown will respect your time right?
>>736475495The point of Nuzlocks is that your pokemon can die at any point, if you just instantly level to what the gym needs you to be at the game just boils down to building a team that just beats the gym.Defeats the point of a challenge run to start eliminating the challenging parts of it just because your youtube audience might catch on to the point that you're not that great at the game.
>>736475385In a really hard challenge run, you're just going to do what's most optimal regardless of how obnoxious it is. Whatever balance the developers originally had in mind doesn't apply.
Each mainline Pokemon game lasts like four sit downs of casual play at this point, there is no need to shorten the experience.
People who say they don't use rare candies or any kind of hacking don't know how long it takes to grind up a party. These are the kind of people that just spam charizard the entire game
Early in the series, I remember encountering an NPC who alluded to rare candies not making Pokemon as strong as leveling them normally, likely a cryptic way of alluding to EVs, so I never used them as a kid (Not realizing EVs could be dealt with separately from leveling).
>>736475416ok then go fight the gym leader at your current level instead of pretending you would've grinded wild pokemon for 10 hours
>>736475973It's mainly difficulty hacks that are designed around it. Ones where each trainer is actually difficult and it's a lot of beelining from mandatory fight to fightRare candying in a vanilla nuzlocke is lethal levels of fried brain cells though. I've only seen one person do it and I don't get it at all
But working for things then putting them to use is way more satisfying.
>romhack>black diglet called "niglett">white diglet called "wiglett"
This entire thread is arguing with a strawman that doesn't exist... In the first place people only use excess rare candies for difficulty hacks like kaizo emerald, meanwhile you guys are just talking about casual playthroughs of the regular game...
>>736475213No, I hack in Master Balls so I can just catch whatever I want and have fun playing the game. Just shoving every pokemon up to Lv.100 sounds absolutely boring. You're going to win, obviously, and what level you're at when you beat it and what speedbump you might run into is part of the fun.>>736476316>white diglet called "wiglett"That's not a hacked mon.
>use Charizard until the elite 4 dogwalk you with rock and dragon pokemon (or overlevel with wilds in victory road because that's the only place that wild xp feels alright)or>get by with a normally leveled charizard and a pidgeot, raticate, mankey, fearow, and victreebel because trainer battles give you just enough to "not grind" with one team and you blew your load catching shit from the first 5 routes>probably win, but feel boring at the endor>grind out 100 wild pokemon kills with a new member of your party because getting something with a type matchup is more strategically interesting to you than bruteforcing through everything with Charizard>feel good about this for one installment and, for whatever reason, none of the other gens ever really feel as good as the one you started in. wonder whythese are the ways to play pokemon. you did this as a kid because your parents got you your copy of the game for being good during a major life event and you didn't play better games because you can only have your tonsils removed onceor>play a "challenge ruleset" and cheat in items, or play a romhack with level caps, or play a romhack with a funny gimmick, or just play Showdown>the circumstances surrounding your run are tailored to actually be challenging at every level of play, and you don't even GET to think about overlevelingnobody actually disagrees with you for doing this, they just recognize or subconsciously realize that you're pirating or hacking your game, so the nintendo tumor in their heads is sending them pain signals as they continue to consider your existence. they need to make it stop.
>>736476439Nice straw man retard. Who is using candies to level 100? You just use them to be just below the level of the gym's ace
The games in general need to have way better experience rewards and a soft level cap to be honest.I want to gain a level every 2-3 battles with wild mons and get several levels when fighting trainers, while also having a soft cap of my pokemon not obeying orders or gaining 1/10th of experience if they're over the level cap.
>>736476507So you skipping trainers, and avoiding possibly interesting combat encounters, in order to just use a bunch of items and end up at the same level? That sounds like doing more work for less reward. If that's how you have fun with the game, go ahead. But it sounds like a waste of time at both ends.
>>736476004you're brown
>>736476756Mandatory fights and gyms are where the fun is at. Pokemon is only good as a boss rush game. No one actually larps as an epic trainer

>>736475342Nuzlockes encourage using different Pokemon and sometimes you don't want to grind that level 5 to a level 40, but for my use case rare candies are good for leveling weaker Pokemon up to where I already am. Wild encounters don't always scale with my party and fuck grinding weak pseudos when I'm already at the end of the game.
>>736475675I played all pokemon games and I never had to grind.

I don't really understand the pokemon leveling process, but don't you need your pokemon to defeat certain types of other pokemon to level up their stats effectively? Just using rare candies means you get shit stats, right?
If I have the ability to hack in rare candies then why wouldn't I just do the smart thing and edit my stats and levels? No need to bother with rare candies
>>736478071There's actually level scaling in the games, meaning that even if you are not gaining any EVs, you're still stronger due to having a higher level

>>736475213I don't particularly enjoy the grind, but let me draw a little distinction here:While playing the campaign, full legit. >>736478128What do EVs do?
>>736478486If you want to have optimal EVs and shit you have to waste a retarded amount of time on a kid game

>>736478620I don't play pokemon games, but especially in earlier gens you waste lots of time trying to highroll for the correct stats
>>736478691You are being selfish towards the pokemon, as you see them only as tools with stats and numbers. Most people see pokemon as companions and friends. This is a hard concept if you are unironically autistic.
>>736478691in the pokemon world, a pokemon strength is highly influenced by its trainer, which is why you can't classify them as weak or strong. If you are a good trainer you can win with your favorites. In game this is translated with IV/EV. This is why your Pidgey is far stronger than a wild or trainer one.
>>736478902It would be alright if she wasn't specifically putting in the context of winning high-level competitions, such as becoming the regional champion.>>736478951Still, there is a inherent baseline, if we assume stats aren't real, at very least types, movesets and abilities are.

There's genuinely no pokemon game where you need to actually grind to progress, if you cycle while just progressing you'll have an evenly leveled team of appropriate level. The only time I'd grind when I was a kid was to evolve a pokemon, because I wanted it sooner, not because it was necessary. >>736475305Genuinely why bother with IVs/EVs outside competitive?

If the people who grew up on Pokemon paid an iota of attention to the series, then they should damn well know that raising your pokemon is the best part.
Won't you get no evs if you rare candy everyone so you would still have to spam vitamins if you can affotd it or go spam some random mon that gives the right kind? I'm starting to think these nuzlocke players are making things harder on themselves

>>736480979Being excited by a sporting challenge. Sometimes you get lax and the random wild pokemon or trainer crits your pokemon and they die. It's a harsh lesson but it changes things, you sub in a different pokemon in their spot, your team changes. The run develops. It's fun.
>>736479881Same reason people equip stronger weapons in RPG's despite being able to win without them. People like feeling like they have maximized their power and unlocked all the best options.
>>736479881Dudes like this will team wipe to level several times and not realize that's them grinding on accident
>>736476872A cheat only qualifies as "quality of live" if it doesn't affect anything that tests your skill in any capacity. Teleporting to a boss is fine, if there are no enemies inbetween to test your skill to get past them, and also no platforming sections to test your platforming skill, no puzzles to test your problem-solving/logical thinking/perception/knowledge.>but what if I have passed all these tests already, and die to the boss. Do I have to do it all again? That sounds awfulDepends. If these tests are so easy for you, that doing them again doesn't feel like a genuine challenge, but like tedium, they are pointless. Just teleport to the boss. But it may also be possible that, while you passed the test at some point, you only did so by the skin of your teeth. You aren't yet able to do it consistently. You should man up and take the test again. A lot of it also depends on what the primary focus of the game is. In the case of a platformer, where the main challenge is the platforming and bosses are more like a fun little distraction inbetween, you should definitely do the platforming section again, if somehow you died to the boss. If you don't want to, it is a bad platformer or you don't enjoy platforming. Or you have done it so many times already, that it becomes boring, but in that case how the fuck are you dying to the boss so often. Either the boss is completely overtuned (bad design) or you suck at boss fights (look for a platformer with easier/no bossfights). The necessity to use "Quality of live"-cheats is often a result of either the game being not well designed in some parts, or generally, or the player not being honest with himself in regards to what kind of game he truly enjoys.Sometimes players use cheats to make sections easier that they think are too difficult and call it "quality of live" but the reality is, that these people are simply not honest to themselfes with their level of skill. They are simply cheating.

>>736475213Grinding is part of the challenge. It incentivizes you to try to win using tactics and skill even if you're kind of underleveled because having to go fight wild pokemon sucks. Also, Pokemon have different XP tiers. Did everyone forget this? Not every pokemon levels, evolves, and learns moves at the same level. If you use rare candies then pokemon like Raticate or Butterfree are totally useless and pointless. In a normal playthrough they gain XP fast and evolve at a low level to create an early game power spike. With rare candies you just are leveling up everything to some arbitrary level cap. Rare candies also incentivize you to just cynically cycle through pokemon for every major encounter. Pokemon is about growing closer with your team as it goes on, watching them evolve and get stronger, not changing half the team to counter the next gym leader.
>>736475213I get why people do this for super sweaty bullshit romhacks but for normal games I dont really see how this saves times because just doing all the mandatory trainer battles should be enough in these games.

>>736488302It's almost like people aren't spamming candies for vanilla games and applying vanilla game standards to old, difficult romhacks where you have no choice but to run calcs for hours and adding grinding on top of that shows you don't do what candyfags are doing.
>>736477515Nuzlockes are dumb anyway, just play a different game.
>>736489608No
using missingno to glitch your 6th item slot for masterballs or rare candies was peak pokemania and zoomies will never experience anything like it
I save my rare candies for the elite four. I figure the higher level you get the longer it takes to level up so you'd get the most benefit if you scoff them down for the final matches
>>736487770It is the same as with the pseudo legendaries that evolve late. Before you had to consistently babysit them or do a sidequest to get the XP share to then gimp your entire party to level them. The trade off was them becoming an elite 4 sweeping killing machine.Nowadays with XP share your team is always leveled and even if the first form still sucks, 5 leveled pokemon is enough to beat anything.
>>736492043Yeah, you typically use them at the elite 4 or maybe in the earlymidgame if you have a pokemon like magikarp or abra that is about to evolve.
>>736475213I can agree with this pre-gen 5 where if you were spreading exp around a whole team of 6 you would have to grind towards endgame, but there's simply no excuse now with scaled exp and bench exp. especially when gamefreak has moved to open world design. if you somehow hit a wall you can just go somewhere else and beat the wall later. if you want exp you can just go to a higher level area and catch mons or do raids. gamefreak's linear level progression was horrible and open world without scaling suits pokemon much better.
>>736475305>i also make sure to only use my favorites toochad behaviour
>>736475213Where does rare candy come from? Obviosly someone manufactures it so how come it's not sold anywhere and you can only find it in dank caves?
>>736475213>we don't have the time to enjoy these games like we used toit belongs to moneyberg
>>736475213>cheating>in an already way too easy babu gamelowlife
>>736475385I wasted over 4000 hours playing Pokemon in my life because of that mentality. How many total hours in would you guess that you are?
The only hacking I ever did was to give myself pokemon that were locked behind garbage monetization. I always start my games off with a level 1 Mew.
>like we used to I had less free time as a kid than I do as a working adult. You fucked up somewhere. Enjoy waging, pokefag.
>>736475213In some shitty fan game, I might hack in Rare Candies if it clearly expects the player to spend hours grinding for a team capable of progressing. Normal Pokemon games are so easy, you don't need them.
