>best game in the KH series>least amount of Disney>the classic Disney movies are based on classic works of literature and fairy tales anyway, tl;dr it's the KH game with the most dignity>Fully focused on Organization XIII>incredible melancholic and strange story, unlike anything else, playing as a false person in a secret cult of false people trying to become real, the Japanese workplace commentary, the bizarre high concept sci-fi ideas, the invigorating chunni energy, and my god that ending...>hands down best narrative in a KH game, and one of the best narratives in games in general>best final boss from a narrative/"using gameplay as subtext" perspective in the KH series, if not gameplay>possibly(?) the closest we have to unchained Nomura, fully committed to his sense of style and the story complexity he's capable of>locked to the DS>and a recap movie that hardly does it justiceThe more I think about this the more I'm screaming internally.
just play the fan remaster
>>736482812Played itI'm more trying to say it causes a certain kind of frustration to think about how such a good experience is sequestered away in a handheld game only hardcore fans will actually care to play
>>736482812QRD
Sucks they don't remaster the handheld games like they keep doing for 1 and 2
>>736485331They've remastered Chain of Memories, Birth by Sleep, and Dream Drop Distance tho. CoM and BBS are in the 1.5 + 2.5 HD collection, and DDD is in the 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue collectoin. The only ones not remastered are Re:Coded and 358 and the phone game iirc
>>736485612I think it’s all just effort involved, Chain of Memories already had a PS2 remake and the other 2 you mentioned were already quite modern and cinematic so a remaster would be pretty easy, the 2 on the DS would need a lot of work to get them consolized, and a lot of new dialogue would need to be recorded since a lot of the originals were just text boxes
>>736481985I wouldn't put Days in my top 3, but I respect it, OP. It's an excellent game, and I like how the panel system works, and you're encouraged to rearrange and change out depending on the mission (helps for replayability when you know ahead of time what to expect). I don't necessarily think less Disney is a good thing. I play the franchise for moments like in 3 when they're all hanging out on the Sanfransokyo Bridge eating ice cream, but I can see how it appeals to have a focus on the non-Disney characters, especially Roxas who I didn't really care for until Days. >locked to the DSThat is a real tragedy. Thankfully, Melon Mix exists, and it's a great way to play the game, but yeah, the movies for it and re:coded do not do them justice at all, and I pity the people who experienced them that way. Overall I agree, Days is a great game. It also has arguably the best magic in the franchise with how it handles lower and higher tiers having different functions.
>>736481985thumbnail looks like a giant demon woman with big gazongas wearing a red mask
>>736481985I got this when I was like 12 and it was so bad I didn't bother finishing it. Like 10 years later I tried again basically out of sunk cost. I was right to hate it as a kid.
>>736486064>It also has arguably the best magic in the franchise with how it handles lower and higher tiers having different functions.>how the panel system works, and you're encouraged to rearrange and change out depending on the missionIt has some nice things about its gameplay. I don't think it's the best gameplay in the series, and mostly due to its DS limitations, but I like the progression, the panel system, the different tiers of abilities and the way you can customize abilities and keyblades with link panels.I do get liking the Disney stuff, I'm partial to KH1 and that wouldn't work without Sora/Donald/Goofy, but there's this dark undercurrent to Kingdom Hearts, really surfacing in Chain of Memories and 358/2 Days, the stuff to do with memory loss, nobodies, soulless characters trying to get souls ... there's a big extremely dark subtext to 358 that I probably won't mention itt unless somebody else brings it up ... 358/2 Days is KH at its thematically heaviest, and for better or worse that's why I call it the best one. It goes to heavy places and tells a really great story.>inb4 "youre a story-in-games fag"I don't care. Plus, it's the way the gameplay is used. It wouldn't mean half as much if you weren't basically playing as a wagie with its mission structure, dealing with workplace politics between missions...>>736486123spoilers but it is a girl desu
>>736488351>SpoilersI thought that just depended on who was looking at it?
>>736488808She's made out of memories, so it's easy to remember someone else so strongly that image gets pasted on her. Sora is ridiculously strong though, so his memories decide her look more than anyone else's.
>>736481985>best game in the KH series
>>736488351I replay every KH game in release order about once a year or bi-yearly, depending, and I really love playing Days. There are only about two mission types I can't stand, the dark glob missions and the three Emerald Serenade missions, but thankfully neither are really a pain if you're prepared for them. I think the only boss I truly hate is the Crimson Prankster. Leechgrave is a joke if you bring enough fire spells and a proper magic based keyblade, and Ruler of the Sky melts if you bring thunder magic I believe. Crimson Prankster just has a really shit gimmick.
>>736481985It is the best story and KH at its best narratively speaking. But let's not get crazy. The gameplay was fucking shit. It felt like a chore to play. I believe Days needs to become a movie to finally explode all it's narrative potential. But a fucking real movie, not a compilation of cutscenes. An anime series would also work.
>>736490825>I believe Days needs to become a movie to finally explode all it's narrative potential. This is an awful take. It doesn't work without being a game.
>>736492762It doesn't work as a game. The gameplay part was the worst part.
>>736490825It's interesting that Roxas in Organization 13 is the main character, and the plot is largely about him making a friend and then fighting her to the death. Still, a movie adaptation of Days would have to cut about 50 scenes of eating ice cream to be tolerable.
Gonna give this Melon Mix a shot after work, now I'm curious
>>736481985Don't worry, bro. Days remake right around the corner. Made by modern H.a.n.d. It would've been released by now but they retooled it from being a Switch exclusive to coming out on all platforms so the multiplayer framework needed a lot of work.Source: It came to me in a dream.>>736489748For me it's the sigil collection that I fucking hate. Globs is just finding the corner it's in and breaking it which is annoying but always doable. The movement in the game is NOT good enough to justify the timer on the sigils if you want a full rank.
>>736494278Spend a tiny bit of time changing the controls in the settings and you should be good.
>>736493416Filtered.
>>736481985Honestly, if someone doesn't want to play 358/2, I usually recommend the manga over watching the cutscene compilation. It's a pretty decent replacement in my opinion, even if it doesn't quite match up to just playing the game. Probably the only kh manga I'd recommend wholeheartedly even if 1 and 2 are decent too.
>>736481985>it's the KH game with the most dignityThat would be 1
>>736495908>Oh I get it! "He He Hoo Hoo Hah" means "Heart"!
>>736481985someone should make a KH clone where it's fairy tale/myth characters and worlds instead of Disney.
>>7364959081 has the most account of memetic cringe of them all. It really has no dignity
>>736499357that's a pretty good idea desu
>>7365012342's Atlantica sequence might take the cake. I say this lovingly, I love KH cringekino
