Sony is massively stupid if they actually go through with such a change. The easiest way for them to make the most cash is simple - >Release the game concurrently on PC and console, let people buy it where they are comfortable. Nobody on PC is going to buy a console just to play one game. PCs have other benefits, a higher hardware power ceiling, the benefit of openness and often better value, among others. Consoles are an outdated idea as a concept. Years ago they had some sort of value in the 80s and 90s, but by the end of the 2000s (debated, earlier than that) they are simply gimped locked down PC hardware with all the user choice taken away. The Steam Deck is pretty much the alternative model of what a modern console SHOULD be - its a prefab, pick up and play capable mobile bit of hardware, but its a fully open PC running a FOSS operating system that users can interact with as they want. You want to load up the "big picture" UI with emulators and other stuff? Fine! Want to plug in a KB/M via a dock, switch to the desktop mode, and install a word processor? Won't interfere with your gaming in the least! That's the only value for 'consoles' going forward as opposed to the traditional faggotry of trying lock everything down and hope people get pissed and buy the thing. Almost all the Sony published games do well on PC if the games themselves are good and unlike consoles sales have a long tail and even massive discounts can be profitable (RGG and Sega found this out that they made a fortune from people buying Yakuza 0 on PC years down the line for like $8). Of course shittier games or if Sony takes fucking forever to bring things to PC less people enthused with full price to buy something late, but titles like Death Stranding / Director's Cut found PC to be the preferable platform; same for Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut , the first two Spider-Man games, and more. All they need to do is sell concurrently, not fuck it up.
