go with the arcade version of renegade, but the original version which is not localized but the game infinitely loops so you can just do the first loop and then play the nes version of it where it expands on the arcade by including a bike chase for level 2 and a maze for the last level

Always wondered this too. You'd think like it's a no brainier to have a streets of rage or final fight with a large free roam open world and stats and gear and new moves you can unlock. But no, 99.9% of games just never did it. Weird.

The arcade was outsourced to East Technology (not a good developer) as they were busy making The Combatribes, but their console division were already doing stuff different from their arcade games and (this is a supposition) the arcade and console versions of DD3 were done in parallel, which is why they are different.

That's sad news. I don't remember playing Double Dragon. I may have played it by renting the game for the SNES or NES, I did enjoy the live action movie and the cartoon series based on Double Dragon. May Yoshihisa Kishimoto rest in peace. Thanks to him, we got the sidescrolling street beatem up games like those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle game on SNES, the Predator vs. Aliens arcade game by Capcom and the arcade X-Men game by Konami.

Dotemu has released the Double Dragon Trilogy for mobile on the Google Play Store for $3.49.

The live action Double Dragon movie was okay. But I also remember the Double Dragon cartoon series and even though I didn't watch every episode, of the episodes I did watch were usually pretty good.

Some early career highlights:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7E7HGL0TWY
Cobra command. A laserdisk game about flying a helicopter.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciMTAcqdh4o
Road blaster, laserdisc . 1980's Japanese city pop anime road violence, shades of Fist of the North star. A man's wife is murdered by bancho road gang members, and he takes his supercharged trans am, and is out for vengance.

Double Dragon
Anon covers it enough. The cultural impact of Kunio and Double dragon on the game makers and anime/manga makers of the era can't be overstated.

Renegade/Kunio neketsu monogatari.
Anon covers it well. Launched the Beat em up genre as we know it. Kunio himself was a franchise on it's own in Japan. Most of the games in the US got localized to unrecognizability..
Dodge ball related.
