Were you dumb enough to fall for this scam?
I wasn't alive for another year.
>>736488171I don't think the 12 year olds on this board who insult 30 year old gamers know what this is
>>736488171Anon, 90% of the people on this board were born after this was a thing
>>736488171Sega used to make consoles? What was on them, total war and yakuza?
I was like 3 when that came out so nogoing back and playing older games though it's insane how the sega cd gets lumped in with this scam despite actually being a worthwhile add-on. I feel like AVGN and his wannabes gave it a bad rap by only focusing on shit like sewer shark or make my video
>So, here's how Seega could have won...Thought I was on /vr/ for a hot second.
>>736489369Okay but Sega could have won if they weren't so greedy with all the add-ons to the Genesis and just waited to release new consoles. The Dreamcast was the greatest console ever made damn it.
>>736489369The janny on /vr/ had a meltdown recently and now the board is dead, so the usual ritual posters there are spilling out onto other boards desperately looking for attention.
I was 8, so yes. Still have mine.
>>736488171I was born about a year before this thing came out. I was able to get one cause it was a hand me down. And it didn't work, so I dunno. I got scammed of my time trying to get it to work.
My parents weren't divorced, so I had an snes instead
>>736488171It was the result of stupid decisions.>Sega Genesis was still selling well in USA>Sega doesn't want the announcement of Sega Saturn to harm the Genesis sale
>>736490712That would make no sense considering this lump of shit cost the same as a new genesis and you had to buy special games for it, and they all sucked shit.
>>736488171yes.i had Virtua Fighter and a couple 32X CD games.
>>736488171I was like 6-7 years old when this was released and even I knew it was a scam. I got this thing later for like 20 bucks brand new with money I got from cutting grass.
>>736488171I'm rich, I had every single major console. This was probably the one I least played though. There weren't many games and it quickly became obsolete.
>>736488171Didn't even notice it existed as a kid>>736489850damn, qrd?
>>736488715It's the other way round, dumb boomer
>>736488171i remember seeing it in gamefan magazine as a kid and not being able to make heads or tails of it. if i was playing a genesis game in 94, it was sonic 3 and knuckles. i already thought the sega cd sucked after playing it at a friends house.
>>736488171My rich cousin had it and showed me the first VF like it was a tech marvel, I wasn't imressed because PS1 and Tekken 3 were recently out at the time so I did't get the appeal.
>>736494235You're doing what I accused you of, niglet
>>736490712>>736491370The problem was agreeing to make this in America while secretly working on a new console in Japan
>>736488171>>736488171I got this, Star wars arcade and Vurtia Racing for Xmas when i was 10 i think.Star wars was too fucking hard, never got past the 1st level, but VR was a blast....i remember just parking my car near the pond with the 2 fair rides and letting my imaganation run wild. After this i didnt purchase a sega again till Dreamcast.I got an n64 the next year....that was awesome.I still can remember seeing Cursin USA and killer instinct in the arcades Hyping me up for the Ultra 64....Gaming has beens hit once it past the year 2000
>>736498094Gaming has been "Shit" once it past the year 2000*
>>736488171>had a 32x and a sega cdIt must have been like what it feels like for people who mod their carsNever had the vhs attachment though
>>736488171avgn episode was kino.
>>736488171Welp I bought a boxed unit 2016 for 200€ with a game. Now boxed units go for 500€ so I would say I got a deal.
I miss it so much
>>736495920>s-saar if you c-correct me you're a seething alphie!!boomies like you are getting to old to be on this site, keep seething though faggot
I wasn't too excited for it when it came out. I got one in the 2010s along with a flashcart to experience it's limited library. I wish there was more homebrew but it's a nightmare to program for so it is what it is.
>>736498484>WE LIVE IN THE YEAR 2007
yes I had one. I feel so bad for my dad wasting his money on it. the only game I remember owning was Chaotix
>>736498615You can still get and play them
>>736498670I don't care fag. I'll get insulted by millennials, zoomers, boomers and alphies.
>>736498615Why? They're not that hard to get. That with OPL you have the library at your disposal.
>>736488171As an 80s millenial who lived through this era and loved the SNES and Genesis, I literally had no idea this shit existed, nor the Sega CD or Sega Saturn. Sega finally achieved big success with the Genesis and Sonic and "Next Generation" marketing and seemingly just disappeared from the industry in my perspective because they just started releasing stupid confusing and, most painfully, expensive products that nobody asked for. Post-Genesis Sega was like the original Wii U, just expensive and confusing "peripherals" for an already existing console, as if anyone wants to shell out more money to turn their Sega Genesis into a Transformer instead of hold out for an actual new gen system. Then the Sega Saturn was even worse because it was shadow dropped at E3 for the modern-day equivalent of a PS5 Pro price and had no Sonic. I barely was aware it existed and absolutely nobody I knew had one because it was too fucking expensive anyway.Sega really shat the bed in the 90s after the Genesis, up until the Dreamcast which won me back but was too little/too late.
>>736499208>Born in the '80s>I literally had no idea this shit existed, nor the Sega CD or Sega Saturn.this will never not sound ridic.
>>736499412I was going to bring this up. Did no one read gaming mags back then?
>>736499583every time i try to think of how it would even be fucking possible to go the entire '90s without ever hearing about SEGA's stuff, i cannot think of anything that doesn't sound totally grim.like parents locking their kids in a closet with no TV and only a stack of Zoobooks for entertainment.not even Disney Adventures, cuz those also had a video game section.
>>736499412I bought and read gaming magazines but I was still just a young dumb kid at the time and it was hard to comprehend what they were even trying to market to me and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Only with adult retrospection was I able to look back and understand exactly how and why they fucked up. And also in the 90s news wasn't as instant as it is with the internet today so marketing really mattered and shadow dropping a CONSOLE of all things for the equivalent of $800USD today was pants-on-head stupid. It had no hype or buildup whatsoever so when it dropped it was just confusing at best and barely registered in my childhood. By that time I was too busy enjoying N64 and PS1, that was my gaming life and Sega was seemingly absent.
>>736488171The Mega Drive was extremely popular around here but I don't even remember a commercial for this thing.
i may have actually been dumber.
>>736499208Pretty similar, but I asked at the shop where I bought my Genesis clone what the adapter on the right was. They told me it was for the 32X, but said it was too expensive and didn’t want to sell it. By the time they finally sold one there, I already knew about the PS1 and didn’t care anymore.
>>736499762>I bought and read gaming magazines but I was still just a young dumb kid at the timeso you were too young to, like, read words?yeah, no shit you wouldn't remember these consoles if you were a literally toddler back in '96.
>>736499412When I had a NES, I used to read magazines. I never really saw or cared about Mega Drive ones, it was all word of mouth and sharing games with friends, back when kids actually did that
>>736500204>>736499876>"Mega Drive">"Genesis close"see, this is the only way it makes sense. i can understand not knowing these consoles if you're not American.
>>736500064>so you were too young to, like, read words?I could, like, read words anon, but comprehension and conveyance is like, different from just reading, ya know? You either get it or you don't, confusing products that are too expensive is a very simple thing to comprehend that others itt relate to and yes I was a child.
>>736494235>12 year olds know what this is>but 30 year old gamers (who were alive when this was released and may have even owned one) don't.What?
>>736500278Probably because it wasn’t successful in the US, they didn’t even bother pushing it to the rest of the world. I guess something similar happened with the Virtual Boy. I wanted one so bad, but it was extremely hard to get.
>>736500397anon, even if it had been the case that you couldn't read the words, what about the big console logos along with pictures of the consoles themselves?are you American? if not, i can understand not hearing about these consoles.
>>736488171No. I thought the Sega CD was cool, because if Sonic CD, Mickey Mania, Spider-Man vs The Kingpin and Night Trap, but the 32X always came off as ghetto as fuck. It’s also like the AVGN said in the 32X episode: the Saturn was already a known quantity, and was right around the corner, with the PlayStation and “Ultra 64” not long after that, so why get this ugly mushroom thing that’ll let me play a gimped version of Virtua Fighter, or Knuckles Chaotix, which fucks up the Sonic formula by forcing you to rubber band around with another character the whole time? The only kid my age I knew who had one was my friend who was the only child of two well off parents who bought him anything he asked for.
>>736500591>even if it had been the case that you couldn't read the wordsWhere did I say I couldn't read the words?>are you American? Are you? Your reading comprehension seems to be poor and you're having trouble accepting the fact that people can be into gaming and read magazines but still be confused about products or barely know they exist.
>>736500797>does not understand subordinating conjunctions>questions others literacylollmao
>>736488171Consoles ware still young back then.Console manufacturers all believed in modular expansion consoles.Even Nintendo did it. And was even planning on adding a CD expansion. In fact the Snes can play CD quality audio if you use flash carts.Sega was just the Guinie pig that proved this was not to be.
>>736501258>proved this was not to be.did it tho?we live in an era where you don't even get a console addon, just the same console again with a slightly better processor.fucking imagine it's Christmas morning, you open up your present. it's a console you already fucking own but it has a few extra sound channels or some shit, and costs more than the old console ever did.
Imagine SEGA trying to make a game for this piece of shit circa 1996-1998>Weakest 3D & 2D capabilities>Shittiest sound quality>Nightmare to develop for >The most limited storage space, yes it cannot even attain the N64 64MB with bank switching32X is what happens when you have managment with no technical background. The MegaDrive platform was done it was a severely cut down arcade board from 1988.
>>736501153>keeps making arguments about people not being able to read or comprehend words when there is plenty of testimony itt of people reading magazines also didn't understand or know about Sega's dumb peripherals and Saturn flopHere's your last (You) Segatard.
>>736501258>Sega was just the Guinie pig that proved this was not to be.Fake history NEC succeeded in getting 60% of their userbase in Japan to purchase the cd addon or a DUO console.SEGA was doomed in Japan because the MegaDrive userbase was too small for the cd addon. Meanwhile Sega of America completely bungled it with slop tier software worst of all extremely expensive slop.
