One thing I have to praise AoE4 for is that the game has an actual achievable game ending condition. AoE2 is the better game overall but I hate that it relies on players looking at the score and having to make their own judgement on whether they should resign or not, because otherwise the game will take hours for the conquest victory condition to play out. Doesn't help that the community decided early on that wonder and relic victories have to go.

Things like towers and siege become overpowered if they can never miss and you can never run away from them. So you have to nerf them in terms of pure stats, or doing things like AoE3 did where you have an artificial limit in how far from your starting TC you can place towers and castles to avoid them being used offensively. They become more boring and can only be used in the exact way the developers intended, without creativity.
