Is there any other franchise where a significant number of the supposed fanbase hasn't actually experienced the foundational entries? You'll find no one more vocal about their "love" of the series than people who've only played the shiny, new, mass-marketed entries. GTA comes to mind, since your average zoomer probably hasn't even seen footage of GTA 1 & 2; but that's really it - outside of shit like sports games with literal annual entries.
