Essentials in my opinion are
>difficulty tweaks
You can set it so you gain only 1 xp which allows you to balance the difficulty sliders around your level. Difficulty alone makes a wold of difference from the base game, even DD1 doesnt have stuff like this
>random encounters for regions
Static spawns in vanilla is heinous
And thought its not on this list there is now monster hunter guild quests systems being added with this mod if you want to have stuff to do that isnt just the written quests

Bare in mind that stuff like the randomizer can take time to come into effect and remember to start the game through fluffymodmanager when playing the game or you could reset the spawns to vanilla.
