For me at least the debate is more about how it would function when following the rules of the games and not if portals actually existed in our world.
With that said, I agree that the debate is just wasting time, but for a different reason, that being that the games make it explicitly clear that it's B. There's no ambiguity or uncertainty. It's just B.
