>>736504578It can go both ways, though in CV it usually is the stronger characters get unlocked later. The Belmonts/Maxim/Albus in the Vania games are often much stronger than the regular protagonists and functions as a "speedrun" mode more than anything else. But then you have Old Axe Armor in PoR which is definitively harder or the Extra Modes in Circle which go back and forth in difficulty, in the same vein as Luck Mode from SotN. It's not consistent.
