Thank you

Cool at the time, even cooler now that games have gotten worse

great back then but I rarely revisit it. hasn't aged very well with a couple exceptions.
and it's not an "old games bad" thing, I still revisit the SNES a lot. that early 3D era was just kind of jank.

Magical.
The opinions of those who say Super Mario 64 has bad controls should be disregarded.

Worst Nintendo era along the Wii U and Nes.

>>736503752
I think Ogre Battle 64 was peak

People focus on the few great games and ignore the vast majority of unplayable garbage
>>
Mischief Maker is still one of the best games I ever played even 25 years later, in fact I do not want anon from here to play it, do not play mischief makers, you don't deserve it
>>
>>736503752
i remember n64 magazine came with some floppy disks with desktop backgrounds of renders
>>
single control stick was awkward. PlayStation fixed it with dual shock but N64 never did.

European?

How in the fuck did the Sega Saturn sell more than the N64 in Japan, why did they hate it so much?
>>
>>736503752
I wish there was a game that looked like the prerender art. I feel we never quite got that look in playable form.

It's the one I most strongly associate with my childhood, so I view it fondly. I've replayed a number of the games and despite having design flaws ironed out in later 3D games, many still hold up. Mario 64, Star Fox 64, Banjo Kazooie are fantastic.

Funnily enough, I never got to try Banjo Tooie as a child so it being added to the Switch service was huge for me. I'd relatively recently replayed Kazooie and still loved it, but Tooie just did not land for me at all. I don't think it's an age thing though

Literally just now did an Expert mode hard path playthrough of Star Fox 64. Shit's fucking fun man

You're correct but it's also a worthless statement as this is true of every console and game platform ever. I think if you wanted to make an actual point you'd say that the library was quite thin (which it was, due to the PS1s CDs and popularity, PS1 got a lot more support overall comparatively) and so there's a small selection of great games that everyone praises but not a lot of variety beyond that or sub-niches that it appeals to.

peak sovl
too bad most n64 titles arent really fun to play anymore except for mario 64

Pretty cool but we never got another mainline Mario game for it and it felt good but incomplete without Luigi and Yoshi etc. SM64 2 would have been nice.

It does feel a bit weird playing it today with only one joystick for everything, like it especially is strange coming back to it decades later and forgetting Goldeneye was basically auto-aim spam, and you had to hold still to actually fucking aim at something. Very much not what I remembered somehow and quite different from what became the norm later. The Zelda games hold up the best still as well as I suppose Smash Bros but mostly because that was 2D anyway and one joystick was more than fine enough for it.

Massively overrated by millennial tendies. Little to no games
>>

I owned about 80% of the good games on the console due to my rich relatives gifting us their N64 games around 2005 and my family was poor enough that we didn't get a 6th gen console until around that time anyway so I have extremely fond memories of the console. I only had a handful of PS1 games and the only really good one was Crash 2 so even though I understand PS1 had an overall better library I still view N64 as the winner of the generation in my heart
