Does Sonic have too many rivals? Many of them just have a petty squabbles with Sonic in the beginning until they eventually become neutral allies.

I guess he's the main villain in Heroes but he's usually one of a billion robots that gets in Sonic's way. I don't care about some comic book asshole. The only rival there is Jet because his insistence that he can beat Sonic just pushes Sonic harder to win. That's a weird side adventure about magic hoverboards, though, so it's not like he pushes Sonic to smash robots or something.

Sonic has excellent rivals. Her and her partner, Kit, were random citizens that was kidnapped, modified into cyborgs and brainwashed by the ex-Eggman fanboy, Dr. Starline, to be Sonic and Tail's doppelgangers and enemies. Eventually, they realized Starline used them after he "died" and so they went rogue, attempting to kill both Sonic and Eggman(and possibly causing havoc to everyone else) out of frustration. After that, they were taken in by a crocked Mob boss, Clutch, to act as secret agents to the Restoration group. They end up joining a extreme gear racing event organized by him and Restoration, which later gets hijacked by the Phantom Rider(Sonic). Surge beats him temporary but after getting praised for it by the crowd, she realize that she just wants to be hero. With Kit's support, they eventually turned on Clutch and became neutral allies to the Restoration.
