Can we get a Pikmin Thread going? Feels like it's been awhile.

What sort of shit do you anons want to see in Pikmin 5? Should it build upon 4 or go in a different direction entirely?
>>
bump
not really sure if I care much about a potential Pikmin 5, Nintendo has been losing the series' identity since 3 imo (arguably 2) with 4 now being a babby playhouse, but I would definitely want a more hostile atmosphere and ecological simulation, something that brings back the feeling of the first game

Pikmin Squard version 2.0 coming out soon btw

They did add a harder difficulty to 4 and i have to say the game is much more enjoyable
>>
>>736522386
I'm not as bothered by 4's difficulty, but it does annoy me that spicy is a mode that seems to only get added to these games years after I've played them.

As for the rest of your post, I'm honestly surprised the series hasn't leant into ecological simulation more heavily, though. They've constantly flirted with the idea with the Piklopedia giving you information along those lines, but they never really implemented anything in terms of gameplay.

I think 2 was a different direction but still kept to the same basic ethos that 1 did. Nature is cruel but beautiful and all that. Goes about showcasing it in a slightly different way but the main thrust is still there. 3 and 4 feel very kiddie in comparison.

4 leaned more into the "dandori" aspect of multitasking rather than leaning as much into exploration/combat. I enjoy the dandori gameplay, but I much more enjoyed the sheer amount of care and caution you previously had, where victory over each minor interaction felt a bit bigger and more substantial.
Pikmin 3 felt like the worst one imo. It discovered the concept of the dandori stuff, but didn't really lean too heavily into it. And the entire last segment was just one big pain in the ass.

They're adding way too many new features into a game where its lack of superfluous techniques, features, skills, abilities, etc were an appeal of it. I enjoyed that you were just a relatively useless fucker on your own, and only through the teamwork and coordination of 100 little fuckers were you able to accomplish anything. Each new pikmin type, feature added, ability, or skill takes away from that.
>>
imo its moving in literally the opposite direction i wanted
when i saw the 3ds pikmin movies i thought they were like a teaser for armies over 100 doing shit all over the map at once
also them dropping the post apocalypse setting is gay as fuck

I don't think it was ever as straightforwardly post-apoc as the fanbase thought. Distant Spring and Perplexing Pool being the same locations, or the snowman in the Valley of Repose indicated humans (or something like them) still being an active presence all the way back in 2.

The issue is that everything there related to humans is in some form of ruins, except for maybe some of the caves that appear to take place inside houses (and even then those caves are very nonsensical in nature, even compared to other areas within the games)

That ignores the fact that between Pikmin 1 and 2 basically all the areas drastically change in ways that indicate interference from intelligent life. That's why I mentioned the snowman in the Valley of Repose and in particular the Perplexing Pool being the same place as the Distant Spring, since the between the events of 1 and 2 (not very long at all) the Spring went from untouched by human hands to being covered in man made pool tiles. Clearly the game wanted players to notice that such major changes had happened to each of the zones from the first game and wonder what could have made those alterations.

if you thought 3 was mid compared to 1 and 2, you'll hate 4 with every fiber of your body
if 3 or 4 were your first ones you might not hate it as much

I played all the games in order with the Wii rereleases and I think 3 is significantly weaker than 4. I think Olimar's side mode alone is more enjoyable than anything in 3. That said, I think it kind of depends on what it was about 3 that anon thought was mid if he'd enjoy 4. If it's difficulty, then yeah, forget about playing it.

Depends. Lots of hate for it being too easy but I still love it since I'm happy as long as I can keep improving routing on replays.

One was always my fav. My friend likes 2 the best and says its way better because of the dungeon-crawling gameplay, I don't know, I think it loses a bit of charm when time gets paused and you have a totally different experience then controlling everything on the map at once. I think dungeons would work fine but there needed to be like 2-3 dungeons MAX in the whole game, not something you spend the majority of your time doing.

Heff covers a lot of them.

Squared is top tier, it fixes all the bugs of 1 and adds another campaign to play with some custom enemies and rebuilt maps
Bikmin 269 is a brutal but fun shitpost
251 is pretty fully featured but can be rough around the edges
Endless Abyss and Colossal Cavers are cool, hell, anything by PikHacker is pretty good
>>
I played Bikmin 269 Deluxe for the shitpost, and I enjoyed it. I even 100% completed it which was nice. I also like how it actually outright changed mechanics of some of the enemies and from what I can tell, even added new enemies to the game.

Squared is my favorite. Bikmin is kinda bullshit and a meme hellscape, but also does a lot of cool shit.
