What do you think of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga?

>striped socks
Most soulful Luigi ever

Played the entire thing while in a psych ward. Great game.

Really fucking fun game. I like the others in the series well-enough but this game is the peak of it for me. The only thing I'd nitpick is the music for Joke's End, which I know is kind of the point but they didn't have to make the song a really short loop like that.

great game
>great concept. you go around the bean-bean kingdom and the "dungeons" still feel more like actual locations than RPG dungeons
>characters are faithful to the source material. new characters have charming personalities and packed memorable and humorous moments
>develops its own gimmicks like giving the bros their own attacks (jump, hammers, fire, thunder, badge system, expanded options for movement in combination moves, bros. attacks gimmick)
>fantastic, unique game-wide gimmick that lets you dodge damage rewards good hand-eye coordination in children
>bros. moves are decent difficulty for a kid. they reward the player with breaking the game if you bother with them
>solid narrative, expands the mario universe by traveling into new lands and establishes its own running gags like bowser being faced at the beginning and the end and luigi being a punching bag (bowser can't even remember his name)
>numerous sidequests like bean-collecting and the yoshi theater so the player doesn't beeline straight for the next boss
an excellent game all in all. of course, it's for kids so don't expect hardcore "one fuckup and you lose" difficulty

the entire point is that it was made eerie and unsettling on purpose as if to say "no more game(s)"

Pre-Mandate game

The first 3 games have been on my backlog for a long time. How are the post DS games?

didn't like it, I rather play PiT than this

dream team is great, but the tutorials can be a drag
paper jam is really basic and a huge missed opportunity crossover-wise, bosses are fun though
brothership is a slow burner at the start, so if you don't like that you'd probably drop it

They’re all fine to good.
Dream Team is pretty fun but the plot kinda drags towards the end.
Paper Jam has fun battles but the story is mind numbing. The card system is cute but incredibly easy to break the game by boosting EXP
Brothership has great bosses and story wise has moments (mainly with the classic cast) but the new guys are super generic
In all of them the combat is about as good as BiS, but doing the battle challenges in DT/BS can be tedious, especially the “dodge an enemy 10 times in a row”
>>
>>736525003
It’s an absolute masterpiece
>>
It's very fun

I like Dream Team, Paper Jam is skippable, and I'm a Brothership defender, but half when someone says something bad about it, I agree with them.

Game adored by autistic trannies (fawfulfags)
>>
>>736525003
it's pretty good
the pacing's really quick, and I like Bros. Attacks more than the special items later M&L games did
>>
One of my favorite games overall.
>Expanded the Marioverse with a whole new country with its own locales, settings and inhabitants
>Was a straight love letter to SMB1, all the nods and references to it was amazing
>Great battle system, my older brother was even playing it
>Great visuals, the animations to this day are charming and fluid, though some would argue that was AlphaDream's true Achilles heel in hindsight
>Tried to make some sense of how blocks worked in various games as well as blocks in general
>Even managed to get a Geno cameo, paying homage to SMPRG, the game that started it all
Seeing Superstar Saga get a nod in TTYD made me grin, it felt like Mario's world was expanding and interconnected. The 2000's was the best time for Mario spin-offs.

The most kino game in the series. I want Cacletta to come back with her heavy metal track. Blah blah destroyed and whatever - bowser has died innumerable times and still keeps returning. Fawful is a fag.

Also, how hard would it be to asset flip this game into a completely remade rom hack with a new story?

the one thing that makes me sad is how areas feel dead once you clear them
paper mario games give you plenty reasons to return to old areas (star pieces, badges, villages and shops, letters, NPCs with dialogue)
the toad at the forest that was turned into a mushroom by the shroobs in partners in time that keeps the same lines throughout the entire game was particularly harrowing

It's fucked up that Bros Attacks never returned to "using your overworld abilities in battle" because that was so charming and unique. With almost every wrong button press having its own unique fail animation using it enough causes one of the Bros to come up with a variant.
I like the later games well enough, but they never quite reach that level of charm again. Also it's fucked up that Firebrand/Thunderhand never returned. I won't say a third attack option changed too much but I bet they'd make for some cool counerattacks in the modern era.

for the remakes, superstar has silky smooth 60fps and rebalanced items
don't play the second remake
>>
its the second best mario rpg after TTYD. but I still think TTYD is a whole lot better.
