I had this game when it came out but I didn't know a single person that owned this game so the multiplayer functions weren't really a thing for me.

Its badNot as bad as DQ8 but feels very unfinished/incomplete
I liked that you could make your whole party like in 3. I didn't like how it was ugly. also the localization was shit but I guess that's par for the course with dq.
it is the great filter for jrpgs. if you dont love it you are a casual in the genre.

>>736529735One of the best DQ games, and I've played them all. You can still do grottos if you want and the postgame works. Game runs amazingly better emulated, as you can upscale the 3D models really well and the framerate is much smoother. I still think it's okay on hardware, but it is a bit laggy. Great on a hacked 3DS where you can edit your save to get the King Metal Slime grottos and DLC items if you want them, but they aren't needed in the base game at all. Story is pretty good and I like having a full custom party.

Overrated, but decent. It was ambitious, but also flawed and lack of QoL when it came to skill and magic organization fucking sucked. DQ10 is what I wanted, but will never get, not even the fucking offline version.

>>736529735It was my first Dragon Quest and I really love it. Everything about the fights were good. I love the boss music. I liked how characters moved around while fighting. It has my favorite sound effects in a game too, everything sounds really good, like when a spell goes haywire or that sound that plays when a boss gets defeated and the screen flashes white. Even now I watch boss fights from the game on youtube. Another thing I really like from the game is the grotto bosses and their lore, the idea of God being split up and his body parts becoming insane monsters is pretty cool to me.
9 and 7 are the only two I could never finish out of shear boredom. To be fair I did not play 9 "at it's time" when it had all the online shit so maybe back then it would have been more fun but it bored me to tears when I played it for the first time well after that era. 7 was just boring dogshit

>>736535636Not him, but honestly going from 7 to 8, and I'm talking 8 vanilla, not the 3DS with its extra bells and whistles is a massive step down. It trims fat, but it also cuts some of the meat out of building characters, and some of the skills and equipment are redundant when they had the chance to make them more useful. I honestly hate how DQ8's skill system has skills that are "shit version of skill" then spend 30~50 more skill points to get "not (as shit) version of skill". It's also kinda stupid that Jessica's Twin Dragon Lash makes a majority of her kit pretty much pointless, including an entire weapon tree which could have had potential (knives/swords). It got nerfed in 3DS, but it's still one of her most useful skills and stronger attacks. Speaking of which, the "shit"/"not shit" versions of weapons was retarded as well. Yeah, at the time it was kinda cool to take a weapon even further, but the practicality of it is diminished by A) the fact that the bonuses aren't always worth spending your materials on, B) in the PS2 release alchemy took fucking forever, and C) the Falcon Swords pretty much make most weapons pointless outside of using them for utility purpose skills.
