Playing Dragons Dogma 1 on PC for the first time blind. All I know is that it's a pretty in depth character building RPG where you can also create your party members I think. What am I in for? Any tips?
>>
>>736540407
Avoid escort quests unless you really really want the rewards. They are only there for raising affection.
Crafting things can be completely ignored if you don't care.
Your weapon is your best source of damage. Keep it updated and upgraded.
Urgent quests can fail if you move on with the main quest and ignore them. The game won't warn you.

Always go back to check Cassardis and the camp when you complete a quest that feels like a major story beat. There might be new quests and the notice boards get new stuff often
Pick whatever vocation you feel like and swap them as much as you like. Stats don't really matter that much since most of your power comes from the equipment
Google about the pawn inclinations. Make sure your pawn and those you hire have inclination that match their roles
>>
>>736540407
lower the HDR setting and turn shadows to not-max or you'll crash when first visiting BBI, but you can raise shadows after that

HDR makes the game look worse with no benefits, so turn that off/down

When you level up, your current class affects the stat increases. You could play as a mage until level 50 and then swap to a warrior, but you really shouldn't. Either stick to mage classes or non-mage classes. Same thing goes for your pawn.

Mystic knight is weird. It's unique skills are magic scaling. It's also a melee fighting tank. If you want to play it, feel free to level whatever. You could go a glass cannon build by leveling mage first, or you could be a tank who casts weapon buffs(doesn't scale with magic stats) by leveling fighter/warrior.

It's more of an action adventure game and a fun one at that. Some (most?) people prefer the dungeon crawling aspect of the expansion but for me exploring the open "overworld" with no regards to the main quest line as well as the twists in regards to the storyline were the strongest points of the game. I do appreciate the big dungeon of the expansion and more customization and clothing/armour it brings, however. Gotta keep my pawn companion pretty with an expansive wardrobe.
>>
>>736542895
>pick your class
>pick your augments
>pick your gear
Such in depth character building.
>>
>>736543736
It's mostly pick your skills. But yeah I'm really missing the "5% more critical damage when an enemy is stunned" customization superior games offer.

>When you level up, your current class affects the stat increases. You could play as a mage until level 50 and then swap to a warrior, but you really shouldn't. Either stick to mage classes or non-mage classes. Same thing goes for your pawn.
this has been debunked several times. Character stats barely matter, it's the equipment what does
>>
>>736543013
>Some (most?) people prefer the dungeon crawling aspect of the expansion
That's nu/v/ revisionism. The reason the PC (Dark Arisen) release was praised at the time was because the original game ran like pure dogshit on the PS3/360.
>>
>>736544054
If you level as a warrior, you will have double the hp at the end of a game compared to leveling as a sorcerer.
>>
>>736544054
Not true
I played as strider but switched to warrior early on and got massive hp boost compared to vanilla strider
>>
>>736544265
Nta. People saying it doesn't matter are right in the context of everything being viable and smooth.
But the specifics are that it does matter if you want maximum stamina or whatever.
Does minmaxing matters enough for you to play as a class you don't want to for 100 levels? That's for you to decide.
>>
>>736540407
Just ignore the main game and go for the DLC. That's my one and only tip
>>
>>736540407
You were fooled by /v/ the game is shit and I will explain why:

>No indication of where roads lead
>No hint to what enemies are weak to
>No hint of when enemies are alone or in groups
>No warning to avoid status effects
>No clue to which items are masterworks

I don't know how people defend this game.
>>

so before you zoomers came about, games used to have these traps for blind playthrough where if you didn't know something it could set you back hours days or weeks behind. this in turn conditioned a precautious gaming style that is completely benign today as the vast majority of games no longer have these dead man walking scenarios. let people engage with the game's community and get tailored hints about weird niche games without sperging out next time.
>>

Hard mode was added to the game to make NG+ slightly more interesting. It didn't exist at release and isn't meant for a first playthrough.

The game will allow you to miss story content if you play in a way that lets you miss story content.

Hint 1 - If you start out in location A, and go to location B, and then just keep doing quests in location B, that doesn't mean that things aren't happening in location A
Hint 2 - Return to every "not Gran Soren" city and outpost and see what there is to do often, or 1/3 of the game simply won't happen for you, specifically related to Cassardis.

Absolutely not true due to the (honestly kind of bad) way defences work. Yes when you're level 999 with maximally dragonforged equipment the differences are minor, but when you're actually playing the game an apparently "small" difference in stats can easily mean you don't eaither don't hit or are barely reaching a defence threshold and make your hits do one tenth of the damage they would with slightly higher Str or Mag.

the best "villain" in all of gaming

don't fight bandits near the boulder hill, they're too OP and will rape you
simply run past them to the witchwoods to continue that quest or come at night and there will only be wolves there to kill

fire is REALLY good in gransis, like almost every single enemy is weak to it with the exception of golems and the dragon types so it doesn't hurt hiring / having a pawn with fire spell / fire enchant

kick the ox

mercedes best girl

don't go to BBI, it's an endgame dungeon geared for high level players

when you get a very specific story ring, don't hand it over. There's a special shop in the main city that can make forgeries of items, make a forgery of the ring and hand over the fake one to complete the quest. The ring is extremely good and mandatory to use for yourself

Prepare to miss a lot of quests if you really intend to do a blind playthrough... the game is full of "if you did quest x, quest y and z automatically fail" kind of stuff.

Be careful with the autosave system as well.

It's only really half true. If you switch from fighter to MA in the early game it feel like absolute shit, due to lacking equipment and the Magick Archers awful stat growth.

80% of the time pawns should be simple anyway, its optimal choice for 5/6 possible pawn vocations in DD2. Only fighter benefits from being straightforward. Simple is ideal for everything else.

Calm and Kindhearted are dogshit.
>>
>>736550823
Nah it's idiotic. Especially when healing exists and interacts with a whole wounding system.
>>
>>736550859
This is how entire generations do games now, they see clips on tiktok. Look up all trailers that spoil major story beats and characters, check out guides written by shills that have gotten the game early and then they hop in knowing exactly what to expect and do. The moment they have to figure something out you see them struggling, just look up random gameplay streams of video games you like. It's fucking emberassing
>>
>>736550939
Nah it's based. Go back to waiting like a cuck for the boss to finish his 8 hit combo so you can drink your estus
>>
>>736540589
To piggy back off of this, to make escort quests easier you can use the games fast travel system to move the npcs with no hassle. Just plant the port crystal right next to where the quest giver wants to go and ferry stone there.
>>
>>736550965
Gen Z is an entire generation paralyzed by the fear of failure. They refuse to attempt something they aren't already 100% confident they're going to be successful in. Its a byproduct of growing up with social media, any failure is a potential life ruining humiliation. Imagine if every stupid thing you said or did, every failure or humiliation was intrinsically linked to your identity and preserved online forever, that's basically the Gen Z experience. They won't even touch a game that haven't watched a streamer play before.
>>
>>736551000
No idea why you keep bringing up Fromsoft games as if that's your whole argument. Green orbs falling off of enemies as you beat them would be better than pausing to heal.
>>

If you couldn't pause to heal yourself, then the game would be impossible.
Fights are much, much more chaotic compared to Fromsoft games or Monster Hunter. You get clipped constantly by something that you are not seeing.
No, don't pretend that you are some Dragon's Dogma-badass. You too once got smashed to bits by a drop-kicking ogre. Don't lie.
>>
>>736551508
If I can heal to full any time as long as I have items (in the 100s), then you can only make the game hard by killling the player in one hit or not letting them damage the enemy.

The AI is great in that your pawn will take after you monkey see monkey do style. If you grab enemies, they'll try it too. If you climb enemies, they'll be jumping on cyclops all the time. If you spam throwables, they'll be tossing them all the time. If you manage to convince a friend to borrow your pawn, they will get an insight into what kind of crackhead you are, and vice versa.

Spoiler for any anons just starting, be warned

I’m past the first shortcut in BBI, and farming wakestones in the everfall. It’s super fun (That beholder fight was fucking great), but I can’t help but feel like the game is deeply imbalanced from an exploration perspective. In the early game when I was just strolling around gransis I was begging for dungeons to explore, and they never felt like they came soon enough for the overworld to not be a little tedious. Now in the endgame it’s exclusively dungeon crawling, and while I think I prefer it, especially BBI, I actually miss patrolling the map now.

Also, I started as fighter then tried warrior, mystic knight and now assassin. I thought I liked fighter most but the damage gouge can do to enemy weak points is fucking obscene. It feels like a bug.

Anyways I got into this game knowing it’s considered sort of a diamond in the rough, and despite my bitching i’ve really enjoyed it.

THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE

>start game
>run forward until you get to the chimera and let it kill you
>create character
>pick fighter
>run outside and dash towards the settlement and talk to a rock
>optiona: throw rook into the sea
>run outside and kill the cyclops (either climb and hit him in the face if you killed rook or let him fireball his eye if you didn't)
>go back to rock
>you'll get teleported to some guy asking you carry boxes
>ignore him and run back to the starting village
>IMPORTANT: kill rabbits on your run back (for vocation exp)
>in the starting village buy some throwblasts (optional)
>wait at the inn til night
>run out to the pier and talk to orla
>you're now in BBI
>run forward to the quest marker until you run into stache guy
>optional: use the barrel jump glitch to get into the bottom rightmost gem locked door to get the vocation exp ring
>optional: quit out and restart the game on hard mode and repeat all of that to have 2 of those rings
>alternatively run up the spire and yoink the key before the gargoyle rapes you in the ass with its spike and go past the locked door into stache guy's hideout and get the gem for the vocation ring there
>on your way make sure to grab the farthest chest in the waterway through the grate in gargoyle's room for the tier 2 weapon
>also make sure to kill spiders on your way for vocation exp
>if you're still not level 10 throw a few thowblasts and the dire goblins or wargs in starting area
>upon reaching 10 talk to orla and switch to assassin
>optional: simply stockpile throwblasts and cheese the beholder and the lich with them to get massive levels (around 70)
>make sure to loot chests in the 2nd area looking for silk lingerie and tier 2 weapons
>buy shrooms from granny in the starting location back in the home village and conqueror periapts from stachio
>learn gouge
>run to daimon
>jump him and gouge him the face while hooked up periaptroids and shrooms/liquid vim for stamina
>???
>profit
>enjoy the real bbi

I mean the point is just to get them to bbi first thing so they can try and figure it out since I doubt most first timers can follow the rest of the steps without actually knowing the game.
Most people start the game normally and just go for the hydra head escort quest first thing and then by the time they get to the capital they just go "fuck this shit I'm out, this was the lamest thing ever and I'm sick and tired of this shit".
Because the main game mostly sucks ass.

That's like, your opinion. Also if you liked bbi that much then your hardcore advice would be to go there asap and stay there until you beat it.
>>
>>736554021
I don't know if I can be bothered leveling a vocation I don't even like just for whatever boost
>>
>>736554713
Don't. There is a point where you can grind vocation exp afk. With exp boosting gear it takes very little time.
But you might as well not do any of that and just always be on the hunt for better weapons.
>>
>>736554495
>Also if you liked bbi that much then your hardcore advice would be to go there asap and stay there until you beat it.
Yeah that's pretty much the idea.
Just exploring bbi is 10 times more exciting than anything that happens in main story until at least 10-15 hours in even if you don't fight everything.
But armed with throwblasts you always have a backup option.
But simply going through it you will first run into zombie room and see they have too much defense and hp but then realize that there's a giant bottomless pit on both sides of that room and try grappling them and see they have no stagger resist and can be easily picked up and tossed for ez exp.
Then there is the skeleton room and you'll notice the red barrels EVERYWHERE there, so you'll figure out just one toss of those takes care of most small ones leaving the big one for another few before his toast.
Which will give you enough exp to realize that now the skeleton mages in the gargoyle room are frail enough where you can actually kill them with just your weapon as long as you don't get stingraped.
BBI is just designed so marvelously to teach you everything on the fly and is very generous with a lot of great resources.
>>
>>736554826
I don't disagree that bbi is fun but ignoring the main game remains terrible advice for someone starting out.
>>
how do you get the item that locks in your beloved when you gift it
>>
>>736555025
Have to have unlocked witchwood depths.
There is a quest if you interact with the tablet there.
>>
>>736554713
Then don't do it.
At the same time, there might be a moment when you want to take a break from playing MK anyway. You'll max out that vocation soon enough.
>>
>>736555025
>>736555106
Also it doesn't lock anything, it just maxes affection. If you got more than one then the last one is who counts.
>>
>>736554939
You can always get to the main game after, my point is that the first few main quests are dreadful and turn most people off before they ever get to see how the game is played since they just quit on cart escort or try to kill the ogre in the city dungeon and get raped or just see him randomly jump off and die and then realize they need to talk to a bunch of npcs back and forth just stuck running around in the city, so starting with them sucks.
They don't represent the main bulk of the game and make you think it's just some shitty escort and fetch quest simulator (which most main quests are) instead of seeing what it's truly great at - the combat and encounter design.
>>
>>736555106
that explains why I've never seen it, I always forget to ever go back to witchwood

>>
>>736555145
NTI, Ive not maxed mystic knight but my go to is buff weapon, sigil, weapon spam. Grand canon is fun but even more braindead, and casting takes so long that I never have the chance to do my shield and my weapon both. Do you unlock more exciting options toward the end?
>>
>>736555307

The story?
Idk, personally I don't see why you would want to but hey, you can.
It's the ultimate guide to having fun with the game.
>>
>>736555336
Buff weapon is way too slow for how short it lasts. It's supposed to be a party wide buff for short damage. The real MK experience is buffing your shield with the appropriate element for 2 minutes and parry everything.
>>
Some enemies are seriously impossible to deal with without the correct build. Like those fucking golem that have their weakpoint floating around the map. Literally only doable with archer build

MK can beat those with cannon.
Sorcerer with Gicel from a safe spot too but it's torture.

>Trying to do it when the fight is supposed to be "challenging" is just a waste of your hours.
I mean playing videogames is also a waste of your hours but we're not complaining.
Are you asking if it's possible or if there's an easier way?
Because the answer to both is yes, it is possible and there are easier ways, so what exactly is the problem you're having?
You don't need to do it the hard way if you don't want to, you can always switch the class for the low low price of like 500 vocations points or something, so basically free any time.

My point is that it's not an ultimate guide even for such a person. People can like or dislike things for many reasons. You assume it would work simply because it did for you. But the first time a carrion feeder spawns or they simply cannot damage a mini boss they might give up just as predictably.

Every vocation has its own stat distribution so if you want to raise a certain stat, you pick a vocation that gives you that stat and level up some.

The only stat you get from leveling that actually matters is stamina, every vocation beneifits the most from minmaxing stamina, so if you want to minmax you play Ranger from 1~200 then you play the vocation you actually want to play.

It's pretty ok. Obviously the best part is the updated and new classes and skills. The damage formula is once again atrocious but it's almost more easily accepted because of other MMOisms. Enemies start repeating pretty early but the variants manage to keep things somewhat interesting at least. Map verticality is kinda cool. A shame that the only times the game is hard is once again getting killed instantly or being unable to kill things. They also have the BBI2 Kinoshita effect of making hard fights by tossing a billion enemies at you in a small room with everything spazzing out. Never been a fun of that much chaos even when it's perfectly doable because you just end up spamming skills. I definitelly think all DDDA fans should give it a go. Most will never get past the MMO design because it is obnoxious but outside of that it's not bad at all.

Yeah it's very lame seeing enemies becoming invulnerable when out of their leash, no gravity kills or being able to grab them and toss them. Some interesting ideas there for sure though. Shame about the whole mmo gatcha grind progress.

I'm playing with mods so that might be part of it, try turning your damage down in simple difficulty tweaks if you have it, I had mine set low to make the rest of the game harder, like 25%, but for Medusa that might be why getting the head was relatively easy for me.

Get a caster pawn to enchant your weapon with lightning and you can cut it off in a few hits. Gives you the freshest head because it's determined by how much HP the medusa lost before being decapitated. The lightning enchant has some lore reason iirc

The only one you have to worry about is not visiting the pawn guild in the city before exiting the camp from southern entrance to meet the old man.

But the one right at the start locks you out of heaps of quests and characters.

HM is terrible for a first time playthrough. Randomly getting oneshot so you have to constantly down defense Periapts is the opposite of fun.
>>
>>736568409
Sell your junk but for me those random encounters paid the most amount of money
Try installing more random encounter mod

That's why the dinput mod is great. Some say it's cheating, I say it's the way to play.

You don't need to unzip the files when you use the recommended mod manager.
Maybe I should just install them manually and see if that works.

You guys sound like massive fags that never had friends who you would talk to about how to approach games you just started you were playing or used GameFAQs.

Blind playthrough means not looking shit up retard
>>

I genuinely do not care, faggotron. If OP cared, he wouldn't have made this thread either. The point it some light advice is fine and nowhere near the wikifaggotry you turdfaggots are insinuating it it.

Aieeee now everything starts to load and apparently nickcore wasn't installed properly either.
Why does it suddenly require the mods to be unzipped god fucking damnit.
thanks
>>
>>736574907
>past me has unzipped all the files
Hmm
I think I've just had a major brainfart all along.
Retarded. Inoperable.
Perchance it was always necessary to unzip the files.
>>
what mods would you recommend for the second game?

DDbros do you typically make yourself and then your thralls are your harem? Do you go all women even the protag? Do you make deformed retards like souls players typically do?
How do I make cute women in this character creator its pretty bad.
Bump

Name another game that has real time combat and RPG mechanics where character creation has as much mechanical impact on gameplay as DD. I'm talking about stuff like height affecting how deep you can go in water or ability to enter goblin holes or speed and stamina.
>>
>>736540407
The only big things you have to worry about other than how to level up yourself and pawn by swapping between vocations depending on what you want your stats to be are quests you have to do in a certain sequence to complete. Like that gold statue quest with the little girl that gives you access to certain store items.
>>
It's one of the best worst games you'll ever play
>>
>>736576295
Bestiary, simple difficulty tweaks and Wild Loot.
Use difficulty tweaks to reduce exp gain and remove the ability to heal at 0 health.

The entire left side of the map is just art. Do NOT hype yourself into thinking you've got a huge amount of the world left to explore when you are actually about to finish the game.
>>
>>736579386
this shit got me back when I first played it. You reach the end of that cave below the shadow fort thinking that you might emerge at the other side but nah, suddenlt the whole world map is filled with mountain. Biggest vidya blueballs ever.
>>
>>736576295
Some posted a guide recently, but bestiary seems like the most important one. Unofficial patch, ero, eso, gpo, and some others, dullard, hunna, whatever, theyre probably the most popular major modding projects on nexus.
>>
>>736576446
Modded DD2 > DDDA > (power gap) > DD1 > DD2
>>
>>736570492
They both suck for DD2, DD1s wiki was also shit for like the first 6 years it existed it wasn't until the PC port when DD1s wiki actually got good articles.
>>
>>736540407
shit keeps happening in the background, you can't do any one thing without a bunch of other things becoming impossible
also never EVER buy a Maker's Finger from Fournival unless you want him to be locked in as your lover for the sex scene after you beat the dragon
>>
I installed mods for 2 but I'm still fighting goblins for like the first 3 hours. Do i need the randomizer as well or am I going to see fun stuff soon?

You can fireman carry your pawns. So if you equip a female pawn with Maiden's Petticoat - you can see up her skirt when you rotate the camera angle
