Zelda is not a damsel. She always helps. Ocarina of Time Zelda helped you through the game as Sheik and at the final boss with her magic. Tetra helped you in WW and as Zelda she helped you kill Ganondorf at the end. Twilight Princess Zelda helps you fight Ganondorf on horseback at the end.
I don't know if you guys watched Maze Runner, but Wes Ball made the love interest in those movies the main villain and then killed her off in the end. I think we're in good hands.
