Small wonder it had AI art in the assets. Marathon on the other hand from the trailers and the moment you load in just oozes its style and personality. I’m not even sure why this is such a big deal. It’s simply put, a much better quality game and that’s pretty expected given you know, it’s Bungie. It’s quite likely that Marathon wins multiplayer GOTY and will also likely be a contender for GOTY. Looking forward to all of you dumb glazers seething when that happens.

>>736556174Marathon is good, but not great. Matchmaking is based on season level instead of skill, learning is difficult because all the tutorial you get is getting the most basic controls and mechanics explained to you, and there is no firing range, so you can only learn if you like a gun by risking it in a run. There is a good game waiting for you after the initial frustration, but there is also not that much content at the moment, especially if you don't already have the FPS skills to play in Cryo Archive. So after the first 30 or so hours, you'll only feel like playing more if you are pretty good at the game or just really like collecting loot (like me). I slowed down myself after 60 hours in, but I would still like Marathon to live and improve.

>>736555086It makes my blood boil when Dungeon Fighter Online has a kajillion players even though it's an absolute dogshit slop of a game.
I analyzed Marathon's performance over the Easter weekend. In short, it's still getting worse. In a bit more detail this weekend saw the continued decline in players numbers and two new milestones: the first sub 30,000 peak and the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday period that did not have the peak player count for the week. Maybe everyone was at church this weekend? Anyway I believe we are now transitioning into a solid 20,000 state for peak players dipping into the 8,000 to 9,000 range at lows. On average the game loses 3% of its player count every day but functionally this means actual loses should be mitigated by the overall smaller player base, 3% of 28,000 is less than 3% of 88,000 after all. As it stands, 33 days after launching peak player count is down 66% from its peak. It may now stabilize but it could still get worse. So let's think about the future. Bungie has promised: ranked mode, a C.A.R.R.I . event, QoL updates, new guns and implants. A balance patch is due between April and May. I do not believe any of this will improve the player numbers if a new map only bumped the player counts by 12%. May is also important because Sony has its earnings call on May 13th. If my modelling is accurate and I'm 95% confident that it is, the peak player count should be around 10,00 CCU, which is a disaster. Some time between June and August there will be new guns, a new runner shell and a new map. In June we have the season wipe. All gear, contract and faction progression is reset and all players have their levels reset. Personally I think this will decimate the remaining player count by as much as 40%. Without substantial new content I don't see CCU getting about 20,000 after this. But let's see what happens.
>>736560301they're just desperate to prove they're still important, but especially more important than you. they got really humbled learning that nobody actually listens to them

>>736560451Every CCU number analysis I see about this game is always "we're reaching levels of over previously thought impossible". Can F2P or a PvE mode even salvage it at this point?
This hate campaign against Marathon feels so manufactured or fake.something else is going on, no way a game like Marathon can get so much hate for having "ok" gameplay.
>>736560875Marathon is a terrible game because it has no casual appeal. I remember playing Destiny 2 and every season you can get your light level past whatever the cap was and all that became at that point was a number to show how big your dick was and how much an autist you were that season. I randomly watched with a guy in a strike that was like 40 above which means 90% of his day was just playing the game it was his life and he was doing all the end game content. However when I checked his name in the raid reports he never completed a raid so that means that autist just sat there for hours doing strikes and nothing else and he was content with that. Retards like this exist and keep your game alive. I see Marathon as trials from Destiny only with a PVE element and trials had a consistent issue with sweats running the casuals out of the mode till it's just super sweats and no one is having fun and this is always the fate with games like this today.
>>736561181The hate for Marathon is one of many distractions for the Epstein files. It's so blatant I don't know how people can't see it.
>>736560510They got their asses cratered with three slant games in a row (Wukong,Stellar blade, Crimson desert) after their ridiculous hate campaigns went nowhere and now polygon wrote an article about the rise of "outsider reactionary studios". You honestly don't hate game journalists enough
>>736546552The highest rated new games of 2026 right now, averaging low 90s/high 80s are Pokemon Pokopia, Resident Evil Requiem, Esoteric Ebb and Mewgenics.Marathon has a fucking 81 on opencritic. That's lower than Nioh 3. That's lower than Demon Tides. Lower than Paranormasight 2 or Planet of Lana 2 or Lovish or Reanimal. The only reason something getting Ghost of Tsushima/Black Myth Wukong-tier low 80s average score shows up as a GOTY nominee when there's a whole slew of better rated games is because its publisher signed a fat check to every game awards committee for the publicity. We're not even halfway through the year and there is already way more games more deserving of making the GOTY shortlist than Marathon. And if this is just another "lmao give GOTY to GoW instead of RDR2" level publicity stunt it's fucking embarrassing if they're not getting a big payout for this shilling.
>>736560451Based analysisanon returns. Keep it up, and the next major event I can think of that will impact things is the first reset in June, and I agree with you that it will cause a major drop.>>736561086>Can F2P or a PvE mode even salvage it at this point?F2P didn't work during the server slam, where half the players who tried it didn't come back the next day. It would also make the cheating problem unfixably bad.PVE could work if they turn it into a Destiny 3 type of game where there's co op PVE with optional PVP, but doing that would require firing all of Marathon's leaders/directors (since they have a hard on for PVP) and taking at least two years to rebuild the game. I don't think Sony wants to roll the dice on that.>>736561181>hate campaignThere isn't one. Since it got announced, everyone's reaction was a mix of 'what's with this weird art style?' and 'why did they make it extraction PVP only?' with most people walking away from disinterest. The /v/ reaction was mostly 'it's going to flop' and that has been proven right time and time again by this point. The only tiny group of people who were screaming for Bungie to die were a tiny amount of D2 lifers who were crazy to begin with. There was no organized 'let's all shit on Marathon' campaign of any kind, no matter how much shills try to suggest it. There was, ironically, a paid stealth marketing campaign for Marathon, but it only made people dislike the game more.

>>736561505>weird art styleif anything, Marathon's art direction is actually one of it's best defining features.i mean, yea sometimes the bright colors can become overbearing, but that's it.Marathon's real mistake was making it too competitive and not casual enough, having classes instead of free customization, and not being able to switch to 3rd person view.
>>736546552If the game journo complex had ANY credibility, they would openly discuss people being put off by the modern art art direction and the fact that players are dropping the game because they're getting bored. This would also help put pressure on Bungie to save themselves. They won't do this because Concord is exactly what they want for the future of videogames. They don't WANT the industry to gatekeep talentless lunatics and to orient itself towards giving a heterosexual male audience who doesn't give a shit about their petty middle school social games a relaxing weekend.

>>736561724>the art style is the best featureI agree and like it a lot and think it's the only 'new' thing the game does. It's definitely a 'love it or hate it' situation though and I can't think of the last time I saw a game that had such a divisive art style. What's killing the game is two things:>PVP only (borderline hardcore PVP, too)>built around 3 man teamsThese two things are also what killed Highguard (among other issues the game had), and it seems crazy to me that Bungie would not have been able to foresee this.
>>736560519>>736561724>>736561742Modern """art""" is THE pretentious midwit's art direction. It just lazily throws nonsense at the wall and then preys on your desire to feel smart to ask you to assign meaning where there is none. That's the only part of the human experience that it speaks to.It deserves to get crushed out of existence and looked back on as a symbol of how stupid things got.
preemptive middle finger from 'game journo' cabal of wokieshittery: >We WILL stuff this in to our award circus even if the audience hates or ignores it!
>>736561919i would rather just watch steam charts as apparently knowing what the majority of gamers like is better than knowing some niche gay shit like Highguard or Maratroon.
>>736562408I wondering if watching steam charts will become its own sub-genre of gaming. Then some retard makes a steam chart watching indie game
>>736562158Samefag here. It also speaks to people's hatred of beauty due to how it sorts people based on talent (not just in terms of craftsmanship, but also in understanding how the audience will perceive your work) and effort.Again, it doesn't deserve to continue existing.

>>736561026>all the threads for e33 were paid but the crimson desert threads are all natural :^)as soon as the topic of shills come up it's impossible to discuss videogames
>>736547729We've known this for a decade.
>>736562864Is it? Add thread IDs to the page and see.
>>736560013>i just assume anyone attacking CD are shills at this point.I imagine there's people here who dislike it for being soulless open world (despite being the only AAA game aimed at men we got this year), but when someone spends hours going "This is the type of game /v/ always hates, you should hate it as well" you know it's a shill.Let's take TotK for example. When someone hates it they explain why they hate it rather than explain why you should hate it. The manipulation aspect gives it away
>>736562158>It just lazily throws nonsense at the wall and then preys on your desire to feel smart to ask you to assign meaning where there is none.I don't assign meaning to art, I just like looking at it. I don't care about pieces of art that aren't pleasing to the eye, regardless of meaning behind it. Artists should focus on drawing cool and beautiful things first, and only then maybe bother with meaning. I don't care what the artists over at Bungie were going for, but I like what they have made. Actually, after thinking about it a little, I think they are on the same page as me since they just took some art they liked from a Twitter tranny and rolled with it.
>>736561919All gachas should be banned from that shit after they offered their players a payout if they won, which just encourages botting.
Bungie single handily made the MMO experience of playing endless slop to make numbers go up mainstream. Destiny, Division, Warframe these games people will repeat the same team coop activity grinding shit out for hours a day as they have a podcast on. I have no idea how knowing this they made a game that doesn't include mind numbing "brain turn off" (as retarded zoomers say) content they can grind for hours that doesn't include another player curb stomping them.
>>736562847>Lightening levels>Bottle levels

>>736562883The tax on the score of anything that's outside of their system and that doesn't play by their rules + the shameless shilling of any major title that's inside of their system is a problem that started arising in the 6th gen and became really bad in the 7th. It coincided with the industry's growing efforts to take gaming out of the hands of nerds and place it in the hands of Hollywood. Back then, the slogan was "the wider audience". Just like today, they were obsessed with replacing you as the customer. What we're seeing right now is the implosion of a 25+ year long project. Good riddance.
>>736562847Look at that period from 5 am to 8 am today. 4 hours of sustained sub 10K CCU
>>736563690Or maybe Crimson Desert is just a mediocre kitchen sink game
>>736563681>pay for kernel level anti-cheat>tons of cheaters anywayLol. Lmao. I get the feeling these anti-cheat companies are scamming GaaS devs and that's honestly fucking based.
>>736563404I got a 10-pull on wuwa because some deranged chink botted the poll I'm okay with this.
>>736563681>ok, maybe cheating is getting bad, so we're taking steps to address it>stream sniping is bad and you better leave the heckin' streamers alone, or we'll ban you>we're also going to increase moderation for voice and text chat so nobody's feelings get hurt>here's how you can report other people for 'Poor Behavior'The cheaters must be putting a real dent in things for them to kneejerk react like this.
>>736562086>get a new black CEO>he immediately brings back the endless shrimp deal that tanked the company in the first placeHe's taking one for the hood
>>736563404Genshin did not do that, but Wuthering Waves did
>>736561447I haven't checked metacritic/opencritic at all, but even MHS3 is higher than Marathon this year. Really weird to just say "tee hee Marathon is going to the GotY noms chuds!" when there's so much already outpacing it critically this year.
>>736564251The problem for most of these companies is they are outsourcing their security to some other company rather than designing it themselves. And as a result no people in these companies have the skills anymore to handle these kind of security issues because they keep outsourcing it.
>>736564204They're openly admitting why they do this now.
>>736564512Genshin usually gives a 10 pull regardless of outcome around Christmas time every year. “Oh we were nominated for x award, have a 10 pull.”
still waiting for this fat fuck to explain what he likes about this game
>>736564616Do what, not give awards to mediocre games like Black Myth and Crimson Desert?Funny how you don't mention Lies of P, a Korean game, that received dozens of awards and nominations and high scores because it's actually a good fucking game
>>736564875I hear people say it's either a shit game or amazing no middle ground and I have no idea if I should get it

Reddit is why this game gets shilled. Reddit is a garbage site. Someone made a Happy Easter thread making Jesus a Helldiver in the Helldivers subreddit and the mods not only locked the thread, they deleted it and they removed all comments just because they were pro Christianityhttps://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1se4t6k/happy_easter_helldivers/

Who cares? Only GTA will win. Not because of games media but because of normie media. If you look at who votes a bunch of places are non gaming normie places like NPR. They will all vote for "le big GTA game".
>>736565918>Virtually zero plot>4.5/5Is Alien vs Predator a perfect film to her?
>>736555086This is basically a battle over whether the entertainment industry should be about some talentless Karen writer getting paid a million dollars to annoy the audience with a demonstration of how stupid and evil she is or whether standards in hiring and content should be oriented towards the customer, which is predominantly male. The entertainment industry is controlled by Marxists who view it as their moral duty to ensure that male spaces don't exist anywhere in society. The business justification that they use for this (it's not sincere; this is about ego and social status, not running a sustainable industry) is that by targeting games at men, you're excluding half of your potential customer base.On the other side, the men who've been deliberately disenfranchised by the Hollywood machine are laughing their heads off as losing them results in it bleeding out. It turns out that being the biggest media enthusiasts doesn't mean that men are some kind of default audience that will show up for things that weren't made for their enjoyment. Who would have thought? The Marxists want to do what Marxists do and lie about everything, so it's important that we always drive home that their games, shows, and comics are failures, that segments of the industry that don't play by their rules are doing great, and that the difference between the failing Hollywood machine and the rising outsiders is that the latter isn't tied down by their self-imposed rules and generally do business like a customer-oriented meritocracy.
>>736566938You haven't read a single line written by Marx in your life, pipe down nigger
>>736566342She’s judging it as shiny colors to sit children in front of. Critics are judging it as a film. The two audiences want different things.
>>736566938>The entertainment industry is controlled by MarxistsThe entertainment industry is controlled by enormous corporate conglomerates that by definition cannot be "marxist", whatever that means, never mind the actual modus operandi which is far from anything the left side of politics actually is about.Your white boi manosphere bullshit is just that.
>>736547397This games popularity genuinely baffles me, it's such dogshit.
>>736560396Isn't DFO in global and main hemorrhaging players like no tomorrow that only the hard cores and nostalgic players remain? The dev team have made some pretty questionable moves on gearing(and not in a good way though the stupid equipment leveling was finally done away some time ago) and even sped up the move to end game even more.
>>736554258>gray zoneI saw a bit for that game in the past, but the fact it seemed less PVE focused back then, I skipped over it. (Plus back then it didn't seem to run on Linux and seems to now.)Not to go too off-topic, but any anons happen to have played both Gray Zone and Single-Player Tarkov (With the Sain AI mod)? I'd be interested to know how they compare. Just from watching a few videos on Youtube the AI in Gray Zone seems kind of meh compared to modded SPT, I feel like I'd just go back to that after a few hours playing Gray Zone, maybe the big world is novel enough to make up for it though.
>>736546552Everyone keep in mind that Highguard was announced at the Game Awards and it was shut down last month.
