It keeps appearing on every Direct first it was Nintendos' Indie and now recently State of Play. EVERY TIME WITHOUT A PROPER RELEASE DATE.

How do they even allow them in?

Shovel Knight prestige.
>>
>>736547248
No release date but in the pax panel they really nailed it down it was coming spring so with in the next 3 months for sure.
>>
This game is in development hell, it doesn't make sense a 7 month delay for an indie game like this

Turns out making a Zelda clone is difficult and takes a lot of work, as opposed to making Souls or Mega Man clones.
>>
The game released during the Vidya Gaem Awards
>>
>>736551014
They might have just paid once before they delayed it but the pre-orders are enoigh for Nintendo amd Sony think its worth featuring.

Even if its not enough to save Yacht Club It'll probably get Nintendo and Sony a few $100k in royalties from what it ends up selling.
>>
>>736551841
what is the story behind this?
>>
>>736552590
indie studio makes a smash hit, buys expensive LA office as well as needless junk to litter it, including a grill, goes too long without another hit, starts selling stuff to stay afloat, including the grill
>>
>>736550102
IIrc. Black cartridges worked on either console. But had color set up for use on gameboy.

The clear cartridges only worked on the gameboy color.

A handful of games also had colors configured for super gameboy.
>>
>>736550707
Why aren't they using that money to send a guy into the Zelda Dungeon forums?
>>
>>736550707
Nintendo does, rarely. They'll happily give Deltarune free press, for example. Anyone else has to pay thousands.
>>
>>736551812

>Even kills a mouse with hat

>>
>>736547248
They're actually fucked, and they know it.
The best they can do is keep delaying the release for as long as possible, and pray that the extra wait time increases the 'hype' enough that it will get enough sales to keep them afloat.
The main issue being that nobody who was interested in the game even cares any more. Barring some miracle, YCG is dead in the water.

>A handful of games also had colors configured for super gameboy.
Wait really? I had the super gameboy and never even knew of this. I only used the super gameboy rather sparingly in spite of having had it.
>>
>>736554649
Serves them right. I get adding shit to Shovel Knight to make it a complete games, but between buying an expensive LA studio (when the whole point of indie games is to make as much as possible while still being frugal on costs), not doing ANYTHING major with the Shovel Knight IPs outside cameos in forgettable games like Blade Strangers or anything else, they kind of deserve to fail for being so ridiculously shit at managing their resources.

They could've lasted a lot longer if they didn't get it in their heads that they need to stay in the most expensive part of one of the most expensive cities in America. Quite a shame since I actually do like Shovel Knight, but c'est la vie.
>>
>>736547248

NTA but I didn't like the demo. The attack arcs weren't mirrored so it was impossible to hit in certain directions, movement felt bad, and it seemed like it had all the issues of ALttP in terms of screen size and enemies bumping into you over and over, but with incredibly low HP and damage because "it's a soulslike".
>>
>>736555109
I liked Under the Island well enough, it was better than Girl from Akanya, but so far the only indie 2D zeldas I've seen that have been actually great on their own merits are Pipistrello and Master Key.

This isn't the Geoff Keigley show where the end-all be-all is hundreds of thousands of dollars per minute of airtime.
They give them free press because they like to show off that their platform has video games on it, especially if they can say "next game from the team behind Hollowknight or Undertale or Shovel Knight" or whatever.
>>

I was just about to ask: is the mouse furfag community big enough to make this game a success and save the studio?

>>
>>736564675
I feel there would be a non-zero chance of her getting into Rivals of Aether 2, given RoA1 had Shovel Knight despite him not even being an animal though an easter egg let you take off his helmet and reveal he has a fish head, if the timing was a bit better, but I can't see it happening when its players are practically screaming for their favorite veterans to get added to the sequel

Forgot to mention the other factor that between Olympia (already in RoA2, posted here >>736565387) and Pomme who was in RoA1 and will probably get added eventually, we'd have three rodents in the game with Mina, probably too many

Isn't it a 2D Zelda? Those usually just have Ganon, not Ganondorf.

I like crowdfunding, but they should release the game for free if they get crowdfunded. Crowdfunding and then selling copies is double dipping.

>>
>>736573669
All crowdfunding does is replace corporate investors with backers, there still needs to be money to make the game before selling it. If they gave it away after selling it, then the people who backed game to the level of just getting a copy of the game would be ripped off.

what I hate about all these pixelart wannabe retro games is that they don't even follow visual limitations or anything. their games could not even run on old devices without serious sacrifices.

the ones I hate the most are "ps1 demakes" running in Unity/unreal
>>
>>736547248
nostalgia slop
>>
>>736578035
If you give the game away for free after the kickstarter, then the game is worth nothing, which means those who backed for any amount of money and only got a copy of the game basically wasted money.
>>
All four Shovel Knight campaigns were great. Where did it go wrong?
>>
>>736578359
If you buy any game on steam, you cannot resell it, therefore it is worth nothing and have wasted your money.

Possibly resting on their laurels, they were the BIG indie darling of the 2010s, they got real big, and the only games that came close to/passing in popularity were games like Hollow Knight and Undertale. But unlike those two, who went essentially radio silent while work on sequels (or in Deltarune's case, similar ideas), YC kept pushing SH, giving the other campaigns away for free for too long (I got all of them on 3DS and I wasn't even a backer) and in general living in an expensive area when it wasn't necessary, especially in this digital age where parts of a project can be shared on the fly. SK was announced and released in a one year timeframe, Mina should NOT be taking as long as it currently is, and it certainly shouldn't be a "do or die" situation.
