What's your current favorite quirky, Earthbound-inspired, indie RPG? I'm quite enjoying Undertale, despite being 10 years late to the party.
>>736556747>Earthbound thread>oh no actually I want to talk about fucking goatsevery time
>>736556860I accidentally killed Toriel; I absolutely do not want to have sex with her.
>>736556998Based, I dropped the game after killing Toriel because the autistic skeletons were not funny to me and I didn't know I was signing on to play a bullet hell that was going to call me naughty for playing a JRPG
>>736556747It's not that good
>>736557123Not a fan of Papyrus? Sad...Sans at least is a bit funny.>>736557175Heresy.
>>736556747Has to be Undertale. Mother 3 comes second. Then the third place goes to Lisa. I don't like Earthbound itself much, despite loving its many elements.
>>736557234You will not believe this but 10 years ago this game was shilled as the best game of all time, nowadays it's an inferior version to its sequel and no one calls deltarune the best game of all time
>>736556747>>736557481>indieMy bad. Didn't read that part. Forget I said Mother 3.
>>736556747>I'm quite enjoying Undertale, despite being 10 years late to the party.I recently tried it recently and think its not anything special. I played it an hour I think and have no urge to puck it up again.
I myself am somewhat a fan of cult classics like YiiK.
Good responses everyone. Unfortunately, I have to go to work now. Laterz...>0 exp>0 gold
>>736556747Lisa the Painful, it was mechanically interesting compared to mainstream jrpgs and I love the music.
>>736557234I've known people like Sans and Papyrus IRL and they aren't that great to be around and also marks those characters as existing to appeal to the types of people they're modeled after that Toby Fox certainly is aware of and caters to
>>736558661I found the gameplay so mindnumbingly dull that I couldn't get past the first few hours.
>>736556747Is this supposed to be a general Undertale thread or? Anyways to answer your question, Undertale. It's the only quirky RPG inspired by it I played even if I'm thinking of playing Yume Nikki or Omori.>>736557491Deltarune is unfinished and despite everything I personally think Undertale is still superior to it to this day, even if Deltarune isn't bad at all.
>>736557491I remember seeing articles back then like "IS UNDERTALE GONNA BEAT OCARINA OF TIME AT BEING THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME?????" on every video game websiteVideo game journalist opinion (you could have guessed it easily with OOT being considered the best game of all time) but still, that was silly
Undertale was too "Earthbound at home" for my liking. It never hit the mark of what fascinated me about Earthbound and spent way too much time trying to be "funny" (personally found the humor obnoxious) and morally preachy. With that said, I did like Echo Generarion. Though I guess that one was more Stranger Things than Earthbound, huh?
>>736558934It isn't supposed to be "Earthbound at home", it's supposed to be "Moon Remix RPG Adventure at home" Toby even ripped the LV=LOVE thing right off it
>>736558661I often think about this gameIt's kinda hard to recommend because of how it looks and plays (I tried, trust me) but I still really like it
>>736559160I suppose? Though from what I've researched about Moon, it seems a LOT more nuanced than what was used for inspiration. And I guess I call it "Earthbound at home" because of what it blatantly rips off.
>>736558764The game is only 1 hour long so that says a lot about you
>>736559369I guess I didn't get far enough in Undertale to see what it more blatantly rips off of Earthbound beyond the first person battles which is a Dragon Quest thing anyway
>>736559447Lisa is a 1 hour long game? I always thought it was a 20-30 hour thrill, I might give it a go then...
>>736556747I like HorrorVale but no one knows that game exists.
>>736556747I know this is a stealth Undertale thread but I really liked Citizens of Earth, I got it in a HuumbleBundle once and it was surprisingly decent and funny
>>736556747Earthbound itself. It's a le quirky game derived from Mother 1, which is far more grounded than the sequels.Mother plays every straight. Earthbound is wacky for it's own sake with weird chosen one shit and a worse main romance that never goes anywhere.
Every day the same threads about the same games over and over again.
>>736560245>a worse main romance that never goes anywhere.bro didn't bring Paula home to meet his mom at the end of the game>Mother 1, which is far more grounded than the sequelsThis is very intensely true though and the sequels are built on that fact.
>>736559738It's not literally 1 hour, it's around 8 to 10 hours if you're playing it for the first time
>>736556860we've had plenty of actual earthbound threads though. we get a weekly or monthly earthbound thread that reaches reply limit that's actually about earthbound or sometimes mother in general or mother 3.
>>736558934and what fascinated you about earthbound?
>>736559542the last boss of undertale's neutral route is heavily inspired by giygas. that's the most obvious thing. then there's some references here and there in the dislogue like sans saying "kids like you should be burning in hell" which is exactly what one of the moonside npcs says to ness/jeff in the jp version instead of "don't go to heaven" iirc.the lab experiment enemies might've been inspired by mother 3's chimeras.
I think time is right for me to replay Earthbound once again
>see someone complaining about Earthbound-Inspired games>cites OFF and Space Funeral
I just beat Chrono Trigger for the first time and I enjoyed itit was quirkier than I expected
Earthbound is miles better than all of the gay furry derivatives
>>736565123RPGMaker Game = Quirky Indie Earthbound inspired RPG to alot of these mongs.
Bump
>>736556747Mother 3. I love all 3, but Mother 3 is my favorite.
>>736568143but op is asking about what mother inspired games you like
