Do you prefer Paper Mario 64 or TTYD?
ttyd of course. 64 is fun but too simple, also the partners don't have enough dialogue.
I prefer mario and luigi like a real man.
>>736558950Didn't get to play those but I played Sticker Star and Color Splash as a kid. I don't have a switch so no Origami King either but I'd say Color Splash was the best in the serie so far
>>736558950TTYD, and while 64 is a great game it's not even close. TTYD is true soulcore
>>736558950No need to pick. They are both great and the rest are shit.
>>73655895064, just because I haven't played TTYD
>>73655895064 is the better game.
>>736558950Doesnt matter, Origami Kino is better than both of them
I grew up with TTYD so TTYDBoth are good games
>>736558950TTYD is the better game the first playthrough but 64 doesn't have "those parts" that TTYD does that hurt replayability.
64TTYD technically has better combat, if you ignore Superguard, but they're so easy it doesn't really matter.
>>736561237"Those parts" being....? The Glitz Pit? Twilight Town has a 10/10 atmosphere and boss theme so it gets a pass
>>736561131>gameplay is total dogshit
>>73655895064 any day of the week.
>>736561131here's your (you), faggot
>>73655895064 is the more complete game
>>736563298It also maxes out at like a 7.5/10 enjoyment level in its best moments
>>736558950TTYD and PM64 have a similar dynamic to Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts 1: The second one is technically the better game, but the original is comfier and has more soul.
64, TTYD's level design is much worse. Boggly Woods and the Shitz Pit can kiss my ass.
>>736558950I was in 6th grade when the first game came out and remember my friend ans I would take turns beating chapters. Never could get into ttyd or any other games.
>>736558950TTYD is better in every aspect, and 64 is already very good.
>>736558950the one that's not functionally a long hallway
>>736561131Jumping into battle with Bobby as a partner in Autumn Mountain evoked feelings in me that had remained dormant for decades.
TTYD Mario looks so SOULLESS
>>736558950The original has the charm of being, well, original. There's a lot of novelty to its concept that makes it memorable and charming. It's a cute idea well executedTTYD is bigger and better in every way but that's also its drawback. Paper Mario was a cute little concept that didn't really merit a direct sequel and TTYD constantly chaffs against the constraints of being a paper mario game. It's overflowing with big, creative ideas that are constantly being limited by the fact that they're stuck in a sequel to that mario pseudo-RPG about paper. If you took TTYD's ideas and execution and put it into an actual JRPG it would have been an instant 10/10 memorable hit, but all I could think about while actually playing TTYD was how much it felt like the developers didn't want to be making a Mario game.
>>73655895064 easilyi dont really understand the hype surrounding ttydi thought it was ok at best, and not even in my top 3 mario rpg games
64 is the better game. It's the innovator.TTYD is good but it's just more of the same.
>>736558950TTYD and it's not close, TTYD is a much richer game. 64 pales in almost every regard.Still 64 is pretty based.
TTYD is a game for trannies and manchildren who like to play with puppets
TTYD is not that great. 64 is really great but its very simple and really babies first rpg, in a good way.TYD is less polished and less fun.
>>736558950TTYD64 (just talk to the Toad by the Post Office to restore the vanilla PM64 music because the TTYD song ports that play by default are kinda wonky and ear-rapingly loud)
>>73655895064 has the super level design, while the combat system is barebones. This is fixed in Master Quest/Master Quest Junior where there is actually difficulty even in random encounters.TTYD has the superior combat system, but far weaker level design. It's best enjoyed either as a roguelike (Infinite Pit, 1 Hour Loading Zone Randomizer, or Tower of Trials).I would urge all of you to try all the hacks I just mentioned. They're all very fun. Paper Mario rules.
>>736568562Master Quest Jr is the one to recommend to most people. Regular MQ is borderline kaizo slop. I'm glad the devs at least knew that their new/edited content would go to waste if they just left it at that.
>>736558950Will the next Paper Mario finally be good and go back to the original formula of the first 2 games now that Tanabe is retired?
>>736568845Good point, I only did Junior and there were a fair few points that I barely scraped by. Can't imagine actually beating full MQ.
>>736568960MQ very much enforces specific items and loadouts at all times. Not fun.
>>736568956>Tanabe is retiredhaha very funny, ano-->it's realHoly shit, please let making TTYD Remake be an exercise for the devs to make a new classic styled PM game
>>736563525I was gonna make a similar comparison but with Dragon's Dogma lol. The sequel refines a lot of stuff, but the sovl of the og is just too charming. >>736568562>>736568845How do you feel about the Dark Star hack? I haven't played it yet but it looks interesting. Supposedly it doesn't just crank up the difficulty, but it also adds new content as well.
>>736569287The only thing I think I've heard about Dark Star is that it adds a Pit of 100 Trials. It's been on my list to try for a while.
>>736558950I think I have a slight preference for TTYD, because the battle system is so much more fleshed out in that game. You can't really have many specialized builds in 64, while TTYD can go nuts. I think 64 has better level design and music, while TTYD has better gameplay and story. Both are top notch games.
>>736558950Id only played the thousand year door but its a solid game. On the GameCube anyway.
64 has phenomenal music and art direction while ttyd excels in gameplay and character design. both are excelent games in every way but i personally prefer 64
>>736569287dark star is neat as it adds new areas and even a new partnerit's also pretty difficult but you can make badges cost nothing with a code on the file name if you want to have an easier time and have more fun expierimenting
>>73655895064 has Bow, I don't need anything else.
>>736570780Based beyond human comprehension
>>73655895064 is good, borderline great. and ttyd is one of the best jrpgs period. only retards prefer 64.
>>736560595>has only played the two worst games in the series>still offers pointless opinion
>>736561661forced npc fetch quest through every area before going to the moon.
>>73655895064 does not have tranny pandering so that one
>>736563570I agree the level design a lot worse in ttyd but everything else (combat, partners, set pieces, writing, post game, music) being so much better makes up for it.
>>73655895064 is the better game, ttyd has alot of "that part" that makes people not want to return to the game>>736570780based bow enjoyer.>>736570952the entire snow village area felt rushed/half baked
>>736566528>being creative and ambitious is.. le bad.
>>736571008Neither does ttyd.. on the gamecube that is
>>736571067yeah the russia zone was pretty shit but I forgot about it quickly with how ludokino the moon base and final chapter are.
>>736571067bow is indeed the best girl but goombella, vivian and ms meowz are all great too. not to mention the casino receptionist
>>736571278don't you just love intentionally malicious localizers?>>736571305blame the game for being rushed out for that, it's the same reason why chapter 4 suffered.>>736571430the boo girls in ttyd have names: peeka and layla
The one without the tranny OC in it
>>736571876See>>736571278
>>736571278actually, it still does
>>736573929Where?
64 is the better gameTTYD has too many filler chapters, and even the non-filler chapters involve way too much backtracking
PM64. TTYD sucks. The Peach segments suck, the partner abilities are mostly copy/pasted from the first game, shit level design, backtracking, disjointed world that is mostly connected through pipes
>>736560595>I played Sticker Star and Color Splash as a kid.Zoomers get ye gone
>>736571801>>736571278>>736571067>>736570830She's just a green bowling ball with a tongue. Wtf is the appeal?
>>736576286She's an ojou-sama!
>>736558950The music and combat is better in TTYD, but I think the pacing and writing is worse. I can't stand it's Family Guy "what if the joke was how long we drag this out" sense of humor.I kind of look at it like Kingdom Hearts 2. It is an improvement upon the main aspect of the game, but I much prefer the well rounded, yet simpler nature of the first game.
>>73655895064. Because builds actually matter due to limited BP and badges so you cant slap on a gorillian power rushes while also having infinite defense. TTYD also has super guard which, like E33, runs completely counter to it being a turn based strategy game. Also TTYD has some pretty bad backtracking, and the story in 64 is more compelling because bowser is an actual threat despite being goofy and your'e saving sentient star spirits and restoring order to mushroom kingdom.Like TTYD is still good and I would take it any day over whatever the fuck nuPM is, but 64 is definitely the better one in my eyes
>>736561661>list them, but not these onesYou also forgot the multiple backtracks in the island area and you running across the fucking world for a pointless side quest to get to the moon.
>>736558950PM64.
>>736561131>>736566263>The entire start of chapter 3Never thought a fucking bob-omb would make me cry, and then moment ruined with wacky car music
>>736571067>tfw my child accidently ripped one of the bows off of my Bow plushI sewed it back on but its still loose...
64 and it is not even close
>>73655895064 easily. ttyd is tranny shit with trash level design
>>73656166164 has the jungle and flower fields which are the only two levels someone could argue as badTwilight Town, Glitz Pit, Boggly Woods - all UTTER dogshit that make me never want to touch the game ever again. Boggly woods has to be one of the worst levels in an rpg, period
>>736578350>I kind of look at it like Kingdom Hearts 2. It is an improvement upon the main aspect of the game, but I much prefer the well rounded, yet simpler nature of the first game. This encapsulates exactly how I felt about KH1/2 as well.
>>736568956Miyamoto is still around so there is absolutely zero chance we get a good mario rpg, let alone a paper mario one
>>736578875What is this, an image for ants?
>>736558950Once again I am posting how Toad Town is peak comfy and my favourite hub world of any game period.
>>736558950Lately I have been thinking N64 in general is better than GCN, this among the reasons why.
64 is the coziest RPG ever made, TTYD doesn't have the same charm. Leaning into the "paper" aspect when it wasn't even really a deliberate theme of the original outside of western marketing was a tragic misstep in my opinion
>>736579096Eh, the implementation in TTYD was fine. The problem is that the nips thought that that was what everyone wanted instead of it just being a fun quirky thing
>>736578825post it's hole
>>736579169it's less the nips and more tanabe being a fucking retard.
>>736558950super
>>736579293It was the size of a thread anon
>>736558950Super.
>>73655895064 has much better atmosphere, story, visuals, and music, but TTYD greatly expanded upon the RPG elements and the gameplay is more fun. I like the simplicity of the characters and enemies in 64, it feels more MARIO. It's also more replayable to me, I've only finished TTYD once and dropped it partway several times before because it has some really tedious parts. So I guess 64.
>>736561613The one thing I prefer about 64's battles is enemy attacks are better telegraphed, but the timing is more strict than the regular guard in TTYD if I'm not wrong. But that's a matter of preference, TTYD enemies having more tricky attacks is part of the challenge.
The mod that adds all the RPG elements and badges and removes the 30 BP cap from TTYD to 64 makes it the best of the both worlds. I just wish it was more polished.
>>736562893Someone get this hothead sperg outta here.
I really hope after that new FE game comes out, Intelligent Systems gets to work on a real Paper Mario 3. The remake shows they still get the classic formula.
I'm accusing you of cheating
>>736580471>and removes the 30 BP cap from TTYDThat is fucking stupid because now you are just infinitely broken and you have no reason to invest in anything outside of BP.
>>736560595(You)
>>736580638ahh chibi, what a beautiful mess you leave, speed runners are magical creatures...
+bigger, fun paper mechanics+audience shenanigans-stars are objects with no personality-no pink bomb-no cutest booette-rather, ghost niggress instead-Peach segments-no kino final boss battle where NPCs pray for you!Yeah, original for me
>>736579096>Leaning into the "paper" aspect when it wasn't even really a deliberate theme of the original outside of western marketing was a tragic misstep in my opinionAnd has only gotten even worse ever since
>>736581920the real question is what will the next paper Mario game be like, a return to sovl would be the smartest idea and tanabe "retired" so it's more likely. (though brothership didn't exactly do amazing)
>>736579096Who knew the storybook aesthetic would ruin the series down the line. They weren't supposed to be literal Paper, and it turned into a paper puzzle gimmick franchise rather than an RPG series.
>>736578651>Because builds actually matter due to limited BP and badges so you cant slap on a gorillian power rushes while also having infinite defense. The 30 BP limit was too limiting and hardly allowed for any kind of "build." I'm not a fan broken builds and killing everything before they can touch you either, and farming endless amounts of one type of badge, but the game wasn't hard enough to go out of your way to do that, and still allowed you to do fun builds without breaking the game. Also I'm pretty sure you had to get to at least chapter 5 before you can start farming power rushes. I remember as soon as I made the power rush build I lost my motivation to play because it's no longer fun being that broken.
>>736582484Yeah power rush was just too much it completely fucks everything, though so does charge + power bounce/headbonk
>>736578825Based PM dad. I look forward to the day my kid is old enough to understand an RPG.
>>736579096>the "paper" aspect when it wasn't even really a deliberate theme of the original outside of western marketingWhat is>Kammy being taped to the story book in the opening>Falling like paper off the veranda and from the Koopa Bros trap
>>736582484I could maybe see raising it to 40, but thats about it. I remember being genuinely surprised at how good my girlfriend's tank build was in mario 64, but in TTYD it all blended together
>>736581473>-no kino final boss battle where NPCs pray for youThis happens in TTYD, the Crystal Stars go to each world they came from and the story relevant NPCs all cheer you on.
>>736576286Blowjob focus. Humans also place a lot of their lust into facial features.
>>73655895064 of course
64 because TTYD is too long
