Why is GOG so obscure compared to Steam?

They go the extra mile to ensure everything runs properly on modern systems so you can generally play them out of the box whereas Steam are too busy sticking DRM everywhere to ensure classic games get proper treatment

When I used to travel a lot, I used GOG frequently. Being able to have game installers and install them on any computer, even offline, is a huge advantage.However, few people actually use it that way. Most people always have internet access, so it's not as if having the installers on physical media is really necessary. Even if it were, people can easily use a smartphone as a router, connect their laptop to it, for example, and download the game.
