Seems like multiplayer miseryporn honestly. I don't get it
>>736573709Trolling dadgamers because you broke some unwritten rule like killing someone in a PVP game (the same way that survivorcucks get mad if you kill them as the killer in DBD)
>>736573709stealing peoples stuff
I thought the point of these games was you amassed a stockpile of cool stuff like Scrooge McDuck with his pool of gold coins, but the reality is it's just guns in a menu that get wiped every couple months.
>>736574014>but the reality is it's just guns in a menu that get wiped every couple months.that is also destiny.
>>736573709I wanted to like Forever Winter but unfortunately it's just as I feared and it turns out you are that guy just like always. All I want is MGSV where you are constantly scrounging for resources to barely stay afloat.
>>736573709They can be fun if they're singleplayer. Like going to just another area to get as much loot in a run as possible or taking a risky mission while underequiped but coming back with a ton of good stuff. The risk of losing it all is also exhilirating.
>>736574168>All I want is MGSV where you are constantly scrounging for resources to barely stay afloat. You should play TLOU2 on Grounded, it plays like TPP but with scarce ammo/gear.>ohh but Anon I preemptively hate the story! Then play the arcade mode they added in the PC/PS5 port.
>>736573709>multiplayer miserypornI feel like if you're calling it miseryporn then you're assuming you're going to lose and focusing too much on that rather than thinking about the other end where you come out with a huge haul. Extraction shooters aren't for everybody, and I'm not really big on them myself, but I think the appeal is pretty evident when you look at the whole experience.
I like the thrill and potential emergent gameplay, the "stories" that you can live through. That said, they can be really fucking annoying and completely demoralizing if you lose, that is the genre's biggest fault. Most people simply don't want to deal with that, because the amount of stress and loss is disproportionately larger than the amount of fun and dopamine release you get when you succeed.I too ended up not playing Marathon since close to a week after I lost some nice gear while looking at the map and trying to figure out where to go next for my upcoming step in my contract to someone I could not even see or realistically do anything about to defend myself. I don't feel like going back anytime soon to be honest, despite having so much fun with the game and clocking almost 50 hours into it in a single week. I know that it's part of the genre, sometimes you just lose and there's fuckall you can do about it. Other times you will be on the other end of this scenario. But in the end, it's just too much bullshit I'm really not in the mood right now, and maybe I will never get back into the mood of. But it was fun until now and I don't regret getting into it. It's just an incredibly flawed genre.
>>736574295>playing tranny games
>>736573709only way the concept of full loot mmos can live on in some way
>>736573709It's fun to contend rewards with other players
the movement in forever winter fucking sucks, it feels way too rigid
I enjoy The Forever Winter.
>>736574361>That said, they can be really fucking annoying and completely demoralizing if you lose, that is the genre's biggest faultI think it's still an important aspect of the genre that just needs some fixing. Aliens Dark Descent is a great extraction/tactics game until you get a squad wipe where the game forces you to reset the checkpoint since it's heavily story based and linear. It feels like you're cheating and as a fan of ironman in these types of games it makes the game go from a 9/10 to an 8/10. I'd like to see a game like this but more focused on extraction shooter elements and perma death.
>>736574615I did too until they decided to remove like 70% of loot locations in the game and then nerf the ones left. What were they thinking? I used to come back and play it for a weekend every month or so.
I like the STALKER style gameplay where I have to manage inventory and plan my approach based on what I've gathered. I'd prefer them to be single player experiences but with the multiplayer the encounters are more varied, it's faster and you don't have the ability to quick save.
>>736574695Precisely because it's an important aspect of the genre is why I think it will never be mainstream and popular like a BR or other more traditional multiplayer shooters. Most people simply don't want to deal with this, and I understand why, even though I like the genre and played lots of DMZ when it dropped.
>>736574774I had to redo my 'field shopping list' but the rebalance made me filthy rich.
This Forever Winter game you are talking about looks like absolute trash and is Mixed on Steam. The fuck? Is this a shill thread?
>>736575808It's a jank game made by a group of artists who don't really know what they're doing- but damn it, they've got a vision and I respect that.
>>736573709Its the next step in Shooters. Arena shooters are just so boring now. They are too simple and not a real representation of combat. Extraction combines RPG & MMO-esque leveling elements with the shooter genre for the next obvious evolution. I love them. They are the best games I have played.
>>736574695>>736575348>I think it's still an important aspect of the genre that just needs some fixingIs there any real way to 'fix' it that doesn't also water it down? It's fine for a genre to be a bit niche and not appeal to everybody. I don't think that's inherently a problem that needs fixing.
>>736574361>>736574695>>736575348>>736575972Arc Raiders has done the best job to deal with this via skill based matchmaking and free kits.
>>736574360>the other end where you come out with a huge haulI love this DaD art because the thumbnail makes it look like he has a huge ass grin admiring the day's loot as he prepares to add it to the collection. I think melee/RPGs do extraction better because you have a lot of wiggle room with loot.
>>736576056Yeah Arc Raiders have some really great ideas that mitigate the issue. My favorite that I didn't see with other games yet is the safety pouch. Even failed runs can feel not completely and utter failure if you manage to shove an important item or two up your ass before you die.
>>736576056Arc Raiders is a great example of watering it down for mass appeal. Loot barely matters in that game and past the first few runs you never really feel excited like you got a huge haul and are desperate to safely get out. Nor do you feel the thrill of going in with nothing and taking out somebody whose kitted up because free kits can have some of the best PvP weapons in the game. Now after they added ABMM, you can even just go into safe space lobbies to build your stash up or recuperate by not engaging in PvP for awhile.
>>736576235>My favorite that I didn't see with other games yetWhat other extraction shooters have you even played then?
>>736576056arc raiders fucking sucks at this third person with garbage netcode on the cheapest servers they could find why would I bother bringing any gear when every other round is inane bullshit
>>736573709To trick retards into paying 200 dollars for a game that gets worse with every update
>>736574361Sounds like you are just weak minded and should learn how to take a loss, especially at something as trivial as a game
They're like ARPGs where you're getting big explosions of loot constantly, but you actually care about more of what drops since it (theoretically) all stays relevant instead of just setting a loot filter that makes 99% of the item drops not even appear on your screen.
They're FPS games but casualized.People don't like playing a game where you lose based on your lack of timing, map control, map knowledge, and ability to mentally keep track of the limited number of finite game states a normal FPS match could be in.So you remove all that and create a game where you shoot people in the back (and feel good) or get shot in the back (and don't feel bad because you couldn't have known). The whole loot and loss aspect of the genre is a candy glaze to give people who are playing what is essentially 24/7 90 minute round dm_MK64_BlockFort a straw to grasp at to not be called casual.
>>736573709>Using this game to complain about extraction shooterGood ruse
>>736574295I was actually looking at the PC version a month ago, can I just ignore the story mode completely and still get access to all of the "rougelike" mode content? The story is honestly so fucking bad that it ruins the otherwise good combat since it gets interrupted by it constantly.
>>736573709spending 30 minutes sitting behind a rock at an extraction point waiting for someone to come along so that you can kill them.you then post videos of it on twitter to brag about being a god gamer
>>736573709Increased risk = more reason to buy microtransactions.
>>736573709As I'm getting older I lost any interest in pvp games and play exclusively singleplayers. I always enjoyed singleplayers, but I used to chase the pvp high back in the day.
It's literally online co-op survival with the possibility of pvp. That's why extraction shooters are a subgenre of looter shooters (shooting games that were inspired by ARPG looting) that combined roguelite elements with survival games. It's a genre blend.
containment genre for subhumans
>>736578139This. its a mode that is tailor fit for low trust individuals in a society. Keeps them out of high trust PVP games
>>736577375yeah you can play no return from a fresh save, and none of the content is gated behind having to beat the story mode. that said, you should play the story mode since it's kino and trying to learn how to fight certain bosses in a one-death-means-you-reset mode sounds annoying to me
>>736573709Sloppy streamer fellatio in the form of a game. Them being shit to play unless doing so is your day job isn't an unfortunate side effect, it's a core feature.
>>736573709The point is to grind resources so you can grind resources, basically just an alternative for former soviet subhumans who don't want to grind dota2, d2, or mmo private servers.
>>736573709from my experience it's like school-bully attitude losers OR dad gamers that want to feel real tension because they're cold and dead inside.I probably fit into the second category but I run into a lot of the first, these people will talk shit whether they win or lose a fight I just dont understand the mentality.>"haha faggot I killed you, you suck lol">"haha faggot enjoy the shitty gear I dont even care"
>>736574615I like it. They seem to listen when people bitch after a while but aren't afraid to try their own thing and see how it works. Also lordoss will now bitchslap water thieves so that's cool
>>736573709They're pvp games, with pve enemies mixed in, with the illusion of progression so you don't realize how stale the gameplay is too quickly. Pvp has always been an artificial way to extend how long players play a game. If you can't write and create a good/long campaign you throw in pvp so the players will "create" the story for you. Its laziness. Progression systems are also another way to extend gameplay. Make the players have to build up somehow to reach their full potential. Combine both progression AND pvp and they'll play even longer. Most players are smart enough to know they're being jerked around like this which is why extraction shooters are very niche. Only the most antagonistic players crowd into them because they're addicted to fucking over other people
>>736582130>mfw when the storytard starts complaining about gameplay again
i actually only like the high-risk looting playstyle of tarkovthe pvp isnt the "main course" for me but i still dont mind iti really enjoyed just farming stuff for my hideout the other extraction shooters dont really focus on that part of tarkovits mostly the pvp and the gearing
