I truly hate what they did to vocations in DD2. I can understand the concept of wanting each vocation to be more unique with pros and cons, but they just cut up and butchered existing vocations and replaced them with....a shitty non-damage support class ? I guess Warfarer is the "solution" but its so boring.

I blame capcom execs for a lot of DD2's problems, but this one really seems to be on Itsuno. I get what he was trying to do, but it really just seems stupid to limit the player like that. Nobody wants parts of the game where they just sit around doing nothing, plus solo and duo challenges were always fun. What's more, nothing replicates Mystic Knights gameplay. Warfarer (with mods) can at least kind of do Magick Archer and Assassin, but MK isn't even close.

Been playing with all the nickesponja mods but I feel like it's still only really meant for new game plus with dragonforged gear. Tried the preset for enemy resistance overhaul once and the big enemies just wouldn't die with how little damage the weapons I had at the time did.

Yeah I think that preset is made for the base game not a fully modded one, mura's preset made me do like zero damage on everything, I'm currently just rolling with a flat 0.25x damage for normal enemies and I upped bosses from 0.25x to 0.5x. Everything else is left default. Oh and my EXP is a 0.0x after I hit 20, was .25x before then, was going to turn exp gains back on after I hit the end/post game, whatever this games equivalent to DD1's post-dragon world is.

What anon means is that in dd2 there's cut content relating to the "Tower of the new moon" which was going to be a multiplayer dungeon crawl. This concept was also cut in dd1, but seems to have made more development in 2 before getting axed. There was footage a few months before the game came out where you could even see the moon in the background. His theory is that the vocations were gutted for this multiplayer mode that didn't get finished, but dd1 had the same idea so I don't think that's the reason vocations were altered.

Replaying ddda after 2 and sure the atmosphere is better but i find combat a bit repetitive in 1
Picked strider then mystic knight and every fight goes pretty much same where i either spam parry or mystic balls but in 2 i find myself making my own combos and every encounter feel very dynamic because of its physics system

Using all the mods it was only natural to find a bug. Been playing with them for 60 hours no problem though. But for some reason I can't unequip my bow. Switching to other classes, that don't even use a bow, doesn't work and it's still equipped. When playing warfarer, which is what I've been playing for a dozen hours now at least no problem, it doesn't register as equiped so I can't use it either when weapon switching. Equipping other weapons and using the dullahan mod rearmament doesn't change weapons anymore either despite having worked til just recently. Anyone have any ideas?

Just booted DD2 on my new PC with a 5060ti. Everything on ultra 1440p with Goylss quality runs at crispy 60 FPS with 60% GPU usage.
Crimson desert holds 60 FPS with 100% GPU usaqe only if I drop a bunch of settings down to ultra, which include lighting.

It was also nice to realize how much DD2's combat mogs the shit out of Crimson Desert. Not hating Crimson Desert but basic enemies are repetitive as fuck and non-threats, and non-humanoid enemies are legit some of the worst designs I've ever seen, mostly due to context sensitive

I ignored the bullshit about limiting character height for my pawn and started playing. was looking for that memorable experience. The characters, the world, for them to feel at least somewhat alive. To explore and find. Got none of it. Characters are more soulless than the pawns though it'd be utter bullshit if anyone would claim it's intentional for some "deep" reason. Quests are lame, some having me going from NPC to NPC then boom end. No reason to explore and areas are so fucking boring. The whole desert area is one giante borefest. Ending is retarded. Not even a decent soundrack to listen to.

Then I realized it's all about combat that people are praising it for. They ignore literally everything else and just fight constantly. The complete lack of standards is astounding. And just one mod for the enemies and their minds got blown cause they could just keep fighting and drooling. It would've been fine if it was 2011-2013 again but it's not. I liked the classic or DA for what it gave for its time. After so many years and the resources current Capcom has I can't ignore it lacking 90% of what a game should have, not to mention there are things that DA still does better.
No discussion is ever about the characters, the story, what areas they explored and what they found cause there's nothing there in all of those regards. If there'd somehow be a thread that only contains positivity towards the game every single post would be a webm of them fighting, many of them what was already posted again and again.

The problems with DD2 go beyond the game being rushed or unfinished, and its core its just not a very fun game. The best thing you can say about it is that it's interesting and ambitious. It clearly wants to be this system driven ARPG where cool moments arise organically from the game's mechanics. Which does occasionally happen, but it doesn't happen nearly enough, there's flashes of brilliance but it just never really clicks. Worst of all most of its good aspects are things that were already good about the original which are either the same or worse in DD2, and this is the sequel that came out 12 years later

You can stand on enemies (and no longer need to spam mushrooms just to keep climbing), every class has a genuine reason to climb and gets some kind of cling skills, height/class actually matters for climbing speed (instead of just being able to instantly jump to the top of an enemies head like in DD1), the camera is also much better, and tank controls where thankfully removed.

This is something that I'm kind of so-so on at the moment, due to worldbuilding limitations; the world is relatively young, and there aren't too many "lost civilizations" or the sort that are planned. That's not to say there's NONE, but it will probably be few in number, but large in size. There will be large amounts of abandoned forts and other fortifications along the coasts, and a considerably large chunk of the map will be unexplored territory by even others in the world.

However, I do have justification that is consistent with the worldbuilding that would allow something akin to the Chalice Dungeons from Bloodborne, albeit hopefully done less rigidly and not quite as swingy in difficulty. I've been iffy on it myself, but I'm not ruling it out just yet. Nothing else in the game would be procedurally generated other than these dungeons. How does that sound?

You have no idea. Much is planned in this area. For example, there are dedicated inputs for the player to Hail/Greet, and to respond Positively or Negatively for ordinary NPC interactions. These responses change contextually in dialogue combat to enable taunts, feints, and other maneuvers.

Camping out and other related activities are much more involved, including setting a watch for the night. Inventory functions similarly to Ultima Online but in 3D, with a sort of Pillars of Eternity sort of Stash for storing items infinitely without weight limit, but can only take or put one/one stack of things at a time; the player is also capable of dropping their pack temporarily for increased mobility, like Outward.

There won't be that many actual chests to loot outside of civilized areas for the most part. It's more of a complete objective, get reward when you come back sort of thing, with some exceptions. But I agree with the criticism with DD2. I like MK in 1 and I also like spearhand in 2. Spearhand and thief were my favorites in 2 but I'd say spearhand was my top favorite overall in 2. The big speargun move is good aimed, ranged magic damage that can snipe weak spots. Wild Furry is a fun/strong combo once you get it. Humble Offering or whatever it was called is excellent crowd control and you can just constantly throw mobs around with it and even off cliffs. The dragon jump move has iframes which is good for defense and it can also mount you on top of enemies which is good. The aerial stinger move is a good movement tool and can also help with platforming while exploring. You gotta get used to always charging your paralysis bolt to stop attacks, your offense is your defense. You can also do the heavy triangle finisher after warp-stepping to a stunned enemy. The bubble shield is good but I don't like using it because it can cause bad habits. I went with wild furry, speargun, offering, and the iframe jump for my four skills. The vocation has a lot of control over the battlefield once you get used to it and is great for solo or main-pawn only play.

That's more or less the exact set-up I already had, It just feels flashy without much efficacy, and I hate how it fills the screen with flashy effects that make it hard to see. Getting the timing right on Skydragon's Fangtooth (spelled thusly: Skiedraggoun's Fengetouth) just doesn't feel as good as doing the same with Hindslight Slash does on fighter. This is the primary reason my friend stopped playing the game. For my "Dogma-like" game, the player and "pawns" can have up to 12 vocation abilities and three racial abilities at any time, among many other features that Dragon's Dogma does not have. Every vocation is fully featured, but you can also mix and match any vocation with any other.

DD1 has a drab aesthetic but it is intentional and the result of very conscious artistic choices. The tutorial village has an etherial japanese fantasy nature that almost feels like a nier game. I hit vocation rank max, I'm still not feeling it. As an example Warrior felt great, that timing mechanic on the basic swings always feels good when you get into the rhythm, on spearhand here its thing is you just keep slapping basic attack and you twirl your duospear around and stunlock stuff, I hate it. Its very reminiscent of like Jedi shit and decidedly less cool than Mystic Knight at everything it does and it does it all worse. Maybe its just nostalgia, I feel like booting up DDDA again right about now. Anyway next up is trickster.

MT framework was a beautiful engine, lost planet was the first game from that generation that impressed me. Slow, but steady. I work on it almost every day, and will "play" it in my head when I'm away from my computer. I'm still figuring out some essential aspects of the game, and I've been learning to program for some time now. Unfortunately it will likely be a long time before it sees the light of day, probably around a decade at least. Current working title is "Amalgam", but there is a possibility that another game might come out while developing the game, so it might be called something different by that time. Game will be PC only.

In short, it will be a "Dogma-like" immersive sim, with an extremely heavy emphasis on roleplaying in character and mechanically. Some more details:
>There are four energies (Physical, Wizardry, Faith, and Mind), each of which has their own method of locomotion; i.e. running, levitation, TK propulsion, etc. It is possible to play a character whose feet never touch the ground for the entire game. These energies are fundamentally different in function from one another, and do not play or look the same.
>31 vocations have been specced out so far, though there will be more. Final number TBD. EVERY vocation can be mixed and matched with another vocation, and with 12 active skills at a time, that means you can have 6 skills each, or the full 12 for one vocation.
>16 races, with subraces. Each will have their own set of three racial abilities. The races are primarily relegated to their own regions, and the players chosen race partially determines where they can start the game. Fantasy racism is in full force, even against your own race if you want to.
>Very crunchy, mechanically speaking. You can swap out vocations at appropriate times, but underneath is an extremely dense skill-based system. Think GURPS-lite, but only with determining effectiveness of those skills rather than locking players out of options (for the most part).

Couldn't type it all out due to character limit, but I actually do have design fallbacks for the vast majority of things I have designed in case they get out of control in one way or another. DD2 isn't just a remaster of DD1, nor is it a remake, the story is decidedly a sequel but the lore of this world is that everything is in an eternal ring of fate that repeats every age, so any DD sequel that sticks to this bit of lore is going to feel very familiar, its a trope common in this kind of fiction.

What it is is DD1 if they doubled down on all the stuff normies didn't like about DD1. As if to say oh you didn't like the limited fast travel and walking around and being assailed by the same goblins, bandits and wolves every time you step out of Gran Soren? Well what if the map was 10x larger and you got assailed by the same goblins, bandits and wolves twice as often as before? It feels almost petty, like they deliberately took the criticism people gave the first game and did the opposite on purpose out of spite for not understanding the creator's intent.

Honestly, please do. It's a very funny joke, haha, lol, but I legitimately never asked for this. I never wanted to be a gamdev, despite many uninformed people about the troubles of gamedev telling me throughout my life that I should do it if I liked them so much. I just wanted to play great video games, I never wanted to make them. But then the industry-at-large decided to stop making good video games, and I'm sick of it. Can I do better? Maybe not. I'm not a wokazoid Californian, so that's a start, at least. I have nothing to my name but time, and I could use that time in much worse ways than making something in the realm of my favorite passion and pastime.

Also, I never shared anything that was actually all that unique or different on purpose. Keeping a lot of close to the chest until the time is right. And I know someone is going to say that no idea is truly unique - and this is 99% true 99% of the time - but there are many ways of tying unoriginal or even trite ideas together to make it feel unique and fresh, even if it truly isn't. I've outright stated I'm making a "Dogma-like" already, which isn't original. But it's up to me - and up to you for your own projects, whatever they are - to find ways of making it an experience that people want to engage with. We'll see if that pans out.

And I know it's 4chan, but I hope you aren't so dismissive with yourself and your own interests as you are with mine.

DD1 talk

I took an anons word to heart last thread for mystic knight and stopped taking the time to weapon buff, instead focusing on shied buffs and more standard martial skills + ruinous sigil. It is a lot more fun. It’s bumped the class up significantly in my ratings.

But holy shit dos the last sword skill earth explosion or whatever SUCK or what? 25 damn seconds to cast with the wyrm kings ring for mediocre damage. waste of XP when I still haven’t bought dragon assault for fighter.

Stone Grove/Forest/Jungle is surprisingly good, but only against big targets. If you can drop the epicenter on a bosses weak points it nukes their healthbar. Can one shot a Hydra and it is a great way of knocking Daimon out of the suuuck. Also Demonswrath is amazing, but sadly gets fucked over by BBI resistances neutering dark.

I wish DD2 hadn't gotten rid of Mystic Knight, nothing plays like it in 2.

Just tried the trial. Got bored before it was over. The characters look worse than DD1 somehow (the npcs). The intro is worse, they delay the dragon scene by like 30 mins for some reason. Several classes are missing. Didn't actually see anything that wasn't just DD1 but worse. If they have new enemies, I'd expect to see some early, but it was just goblins and birds.
