I was interest in picking up Metroid Prime remastered but I think it looks too different from the original, should I just stop being a bitch and play the remaster? I never played Prime before
>>
I am a huge fan of metroid in general and played prime probably 6 times, do either one

The literal only graphical reason not to do the remaster is because it loses the light casting of shots down dark hallways, it's a strict improvement otherwise unless you simply prefer the original look
>>
>I was interest
saar...

"prefer" is a strong word, the remaster looks very good I'm just kind of a purist when playing something for the first time, would be cool if it had an option for the original graphics like the master chief collection
>it loses the light casting of shots down dark hallways
yeah that's a bummer
>>

Play it on Wii
>But
The controls are why it's good.
>>
>>736582968
prime is shit destruction of the franchise. just shit fps where the "gameplay" is scanning every fucking single thing possible.

If you play the remaster first then you'll be cognizant of the aforementioned regressions throughout the playthrough and that will dampen your enjoyment to some degree.

wut
they're just doors
>>
The controls on the original are terrible if you have played any console shooter in the last 20 years

That door...

I've come to the conclusion that beam typing is an objective flaw in Prime, at least in prime 1. Either that or the X ray visor needs to not exist

>backtracking or hunting for artifacts
>have to keep switching beams because doors can only be opened by ice or wave beam. Or plasma beam, but usually you immediately have to change to the next one even after just going one room over
>the x ray visor sounds good in execution but there's rarely if ever an invisible platform outside of maybe 2 rooms or areas and tjee infrared visor already should spot cloaked enemies when in use or in pitch black
>HAHA ISNT IT GREAT FIGHTING IN PITCH BLACK AREAS WHERE'S YOURE CONSTANTLY BUMPING INTO SHIT BECAUSE THE THERMAL VISOR ONLY PICKS UP LIGHT FROM SPACE PIRATES?
>haha heres the omega pirate, where you need the xray visor because he's ESPECIALLY cloaked. no you idiot your thermal visor doesnt work on him
>while youre using xray visor, space pirates(specially colored because having to use specific weapons to fight enemies is so much fun, right?) are all the same color, so switch off your beam until you find the right one, LOL
>oh and sometimes you'll be fighting three different types, at the same time! LOL!

like imagine youre going through the end sequence in super metroid or that one green area early on in the game with all the space pirates, and you have to keep switching to spazer or ice beam just to get through it because otherwise the enemies are invulnerable. It just makes the fights take longer

Doors in this game are special I guess, opening them from afar, and they being load triggers requires some extensive programming I think
>>
Nearing the end of my remaster playthrough after it having been years since I engaged with Prime. It starts out super strong, I've been on a metroidvania binge (specifically those series') and this was the first one I actively didn't want to put down whenever I was in a session. People whine about scanning and the artifact hunt but I just didn't bother stopping to read lore scans that I only bothered with for completion % and the rest is just the equivalent of pressing a switch to open a door. And I had nine of the artifacts by the time I finished the mines, without consulting the in-game hints at all up to that point.

It's actually something you can see in game if you emulate it and turn on the wireframe mode. Shooting it loads the other room and unloads other rooms I think.
>>
iirc early prints of the GC version had a bug where if you ran straight through certain scarab hallways and shot the door too quickly, you'd crash the game
>>
>>736585119
>>736588118
the prime series was careful to give their doors distinctive looks based on what faction the doors were from
at least 3 different types I think? probably more.
that alone means a lot of time went into approving the look of the doors (before you even put in the shield), and some slop demaker casually covered it all up.

Remember when Samus came upon a seemingly harmless pile of rocks, but then they were like GWOOARRRRRR and it turned out to be a boss battle with a rock monster?

That was awesome.
>>
>>736582968
The remake is really nice and has my favorite Samus model, but it is tonally different. Play the original or primehack
>but mouse controls aren’t authentic!
Primehack supports every control scheme you can think of. The original tankier scheme the GameCube version used is very comfortable. Also it’s worth noting the the trilogy version changed a bunch of stuff compared to the original that makes the game a lot better, though it’s mostly stuff from the pal and Japanese release of the game. Like the original Prime released in America was kinda incomplete, like Meta Ridley was an unfinished fight and could be killed in a few seconds with wavebuster while Omega Pirate was missing his power bomb interactions. Omega Pirate without power bombs is actually a pretty hard fight on hard mode. But the game is easy otherwise, so whatever you do you’ll have a similar experience I guess.
>>
>>736587947
You dont even need to see the pirates, they do 0 damage. Just xray for the Omega pirate, shoot him, and his AOEs kill all the random troopers.
>>
>>736588724
theres only like 1 nigger tier artifact which is in the ass end of phendrana, requires xray, plasma beam, and power bombs, and is behind an invisible wall in an area that gives no indication that its there.
>>
>>736585054
took this nigger months to figure out alpha levels
>>
>>736582968
Someone post the rain comparison webm
>>
The original version is fine on the trilogy if you have access to a Wii remote and sensor to play. Or on Prime Hack. The GameCube version with a normal controller sucks, the controls are outdated in which case play the remaster
>>
>>736592152
Are you aware of how many there are? It's floating point so at three digits there's at least a thousand different levels.

Man, I hated those colored pirates, especially the ones in that one hallway in the Phanzon mines.

Really? How?

speaking of visors though, if they do a MP2 remake it could be amazing if echo visor was expanded upon to actually be a full visualization of all sound

probably far too much effort for a remake that may not even happen in the first place though
>>
I played the remaster recently (with Gamecube controls of course), it's pretty good. Certainly worth playing more than 4 at least.
