>You see that Erdtree? You can climb it.
>>736583601they should have cut some of the later areas and focused on making the dungeons more unique
>>736583601its crazy how i used to think this big, but now i realize how small it really is
>>736583913Or just had less dungeons in general in favor of improving the ones that were left. They're optional but you had no way of knowing what was worth doing and what reward was worth getting until you already drudged through it.
>>736583913I think the catacombs in general have decent map design, there's usually no straightforward way through unlikes caves or mines. The rewards are usually ass though.
>>736583601Did the game really look like this? I think I need a new graphics card.
>>736588369That's a promo screenshot but in-game looks pretty much identical
Fell Howard: See that Erdtree? You can burn it.
>>736588369
>>736583601The DLC ruined it for me.
>>736583913Elden Ring should have had 3 “open” areas. Limgrave, with some elements of Liurnia, Caelid with larger fortresses and connecting to the Haligtree, and Altus Plateau. The underground zones should have been tighter dungeon areas at various points connecting to the main hubs. The hubs also should have been a bit smaller, no bigger than the more larger areas found in Bloodborne, DeS or DaS3. The snow areas do not need to exist and are just bloated, copy pasted content anyways. Keep Farum Azula but make it an optional, hidden area requiring special items found only via exploration. As it stands now the main game is too fucking big and redundant.
>see that big empty open world? there's an arteria leaf in it
>>736583913They should have cut down the mountaintop of the giants so it was just the big chain
>>736583601LIES
I wish there was no open area, or at least more "walls", most of the time I felt lost and was having a fomo because there was no constructive way to explore, you just go in one direction, there's not much there, you are having a fomo, there's no walls to add punctuation to your exploration you are just wandering around in a sloppy sea of content
>>736588369When people talk about Elden Ring's graphics they really are just referring to its art direction. It's one of its strong suits.
i think i would have liked it more if i had played it without looking everything up on the internet
>>736594427I looked up dungeon locations to not run past them, I wish I looked up area order, or just if someone told me "go south first"
>>736592174Fromsoft have always had interesting level design and just threw it all out the window making everything a big open fieldIt's why the best parts of the game are the bits you can't whistle for torrent
>>736591421You are making a different game at this point
>>736594638NTA but I agree with him, it's not making a different game, but more just re-arranging existing pieces and trimming the fat. There's no need for so many generic dungeons and such a huge landmass, when filling it up means copy-pasting the same enemies and bosses everywhere. I would have gladly traded Gelmir, Mountaintops, Snowfield and all their generic dungeons for an extra legacy dungeon, maybe just fleshing out Castle Redmane into a proper one.
>>736594780Those things don't exist purely for the gameplay. FromSoft was trying to properly convey the scale of the lands between and that can only be achieved by making a giant open world
>>736594967>FromSoft was trying to properly convey the scale of the [fictional world they created]Yeah that's how most games workBut ER is too bloated for its own good, there's plenty to like in the game but there's too much filler.
>>736583601The Scadu Tree in the DLC was such a let down. I really expected a reverse version of The Great Hollow where instead of going down the tree from the inside, we'd climb up. I mean, the top of the Scadu Tree has a long slope at the top, why fuck not put it to use?
>>736594967They didn’t have that issue with scale and making players assume the world was small in their previous games. Not once playing Dark Souls, Demons Souls or Bloodborne did I think the entire population was a few dozen people, all sequestered together in a bunch of reused assets like some Bethesda trash.
>>736595017ER is only "bloated" if you view it from a purely gameplay perspective.>>736595083From's previous games didn't have worlds that felt nearly as big as Elden Ring's. Why are you lying to yourself?
>>736594780>GelmirI actually liked Gelmir. It's got a unique atmosphere, setting and questlines. Sure it's got its generic dungeons like catacombs/caves but it's the same with other areas.>War-torn area but battles are actually still ongoing w/ Leyndell's soldiers and Rykard's Iron Maidens>The ladder climb up to a Fallingstar Beast boss fight>The whole time you're circling the volcano rim while keeping Volcano Manor in sight, then Patches just kicks you down anyway>Magma Wyrm fight but this time next to actual magma for extra Fuck You points>The whole Volcano Manor questlinesI think people just get burned out after exploring Limgrave/Liurnia/Altus Plateau
>>736595164>From's previous games didn't have worlds that felt nearly as big as Elden Ring'sThey didn’t need to thats my whole point.
>>736595164>ER is only "bloated" if you view it from a purely gameplay perspective.ER is a video game, not a map you look at or a collection of landscape photos.
>>736595258Meh, they could rejigger the assets and put them around Remane, keep Volcano Manor but just put it at the edge of Altus, etc.
>>736586345>catacombs in general have decent map designdamn I do love unique cubic rooms everywhere so much variety
First time playing, just beat Godrick. Should I explore tHe LaKe or the well elevator spooky area?
>>736595258The problem isn’t presentation but scale. Combine the best parts of Gelmir with Volcano Manor so its a coherent dungeon experience rather than being attacked by Abductors, runebears, monkey-people and reskinned soldiers. Show a handful of enemies locked in combat or patrolling the charred remains of a sulphuric battlefield or use the background to show inaccessible, wartorn areas around the mountain.
>>736595449Well is easier, do it first otherwise it'll be too easy later. Generally, the underground areas should be done around the same time as the above-ground areas they're found in.
>>736583601Open world fatigue is a real thing, and it really feels like I'm seeing most of the skilled developers all fall into the same trappings.
>>736588369My friend played it on a card with 4 gigs of vram without complaining
>>736595845There are 'people' who played in on the original PS4 and Xboner
I like the open world aspectGranted, for a first blind playthrough there are issues but when you know where the good shit is you can beeline for your build, going to caelid with agheel's dragon heart and getting rotbreath before even setting foot in stormveil is just too good, and then you can cheese a couple rotted erdtree spirits with pyromancy or a good amount of cracked pots for firebombs
>>736596771I dont remember where all the stuff is, I just pick everything up and then when I need a change of pace or im too weak I look through all the stuff I got to upgrade. I guess not going to caelid too early and then too late would be nice
3 years laterI still haven't finished this game.
>>736598379I never finished the DLC. Sounds like I didn't miss out on much anyway.
>>736598379wtf is the dotted line from mohg to radahn?
>>736583601I'm going to download a mod to remove the erdtree because of this thread.
>>736600582Holy Mother of Christ this looks like pure shit
>>736600582>I want to remove soul from this game
>>736601069you keep this up and I'll look for a way to shrink the moon
>>736583601this whole game looks like piss and vinegar
>>736600476Body snatching.
>>736598379Missing Tarnished/Ranni marriage.
>>736583601It would be redundant since you get Haligtree as the secret dungeon. You do go into the Erdtree whenever you go to the roundtable that is actually is inside the tree and obviously the final battle is in there too.
Shazam lost. Game of the Decade.
>>736604273But you go down the Haligtree instead of going up.
