There is no such thing as a gear or item wall in souls games because unfair unavoidable damage is not a thing, thus enabling no-hit runs. In CD there is no real way to avoid getting hit in a massive group fight, your only respite is from spamming iframes off kill animations. Constant arrow rain damage seems innocuous when they just hit for tiny bits of damage but that means you would've been fucked without sufficient gear or healing, no way to outskill that. CD has a very strange problem where on the surface it seems like it's more action than RPG but it's very much the opposite with stat checks, as opposed to souls games where normally most people need to engage with the rpg elements to win but really all you need to do is just roll better.
