It is still full of embarrassing story and the combat is just about rotating weapons nonstop and glorykills.
I cannot emphasize how much second-hand embarrassment the whole game causes. And if you skip the story, the whole game makes no sense because the gameplay is built around the story.
It has barely anything to do with og Doom games. Only enemy names and some guns. Even Doomguy is DOOM SLAYAH. And no modding.
And the music is completely different.

No it isn't.
Its okay to like it, but trying to paint it in better light and lying isn't good. The context for levels and why you go where with nonstop named characters etc. is part of the story.
It is built around story. Embarrassing one at that. With all cutscenes of base Eternal its over an hour of cutscenes. With DLCs its over 3 hours.
How much story was there in Doom 1&2?

You insisting that the Eternal story has nothing to do with levels or the other way around is retarded. If you said "I don't mind it", then fine. If you say "I like the story", then okay I think you are pretty low iq zoomer but fine to each their own.

Is lying and kneejerk defending. The biggest problem to me whenever it comes to talking about any game someone is quite passionate about is the fact they refuse any criticism towards an entertainment product. At best they ignore it to latch on just one point nonstop and insisting they are right.
I gave you many reasons why Eternal isn't even close to og Doom games. Gameplay from its constant weapon switching, no modding, music is questionable "noise", and an embarrassing story that pushes itself on you and tries to be so badass it is like embarrassing dad trying to be relatable.
But instead of trying to address anything, you repeat "tourist".

Its unhealthy. You have married a corporate product to the point you see anyone criticizing its fucking story as "tourist".

Just sideloaded Doom by QuestZDoom, and Doom 3 onto my meta Quest 3. Just a few hours ago. Sometime will be playing when Pavlov Shack is in midnight hours.
The QuestZDoom has an easy to use launcher with mods easily downloadable through the launcher. Doom 3 just looks and runs great.

On one hand, 2016 and Eternal feel very very different and "alien" compared to the classics,
On the other hand, I struggle to imagine a world where a AAAAA+ company reboots one of the most beloved franchises in the world, 20 years after its prime to... make it into a corridor shooter in the same vein as the original games. I'm just grateful they didn't make it into some boring cover shooter, at least the DOOM name is still somewhat intact (or at least - not nearly as raped as something like Halo, for example). Eternal's story bits were pushing it a bit much, and I have no fucking clue what happened with Dark Ages because I haven't played it yet.

Played Doom, Doom 2, Doom 64, and Doom 3. Doom 2 feels like a slog due to no episode selection, so all 32 (?) levels in one go can get tiring. Doom 64 sometimes feels the same way with how a lot of the levels are larger to make up the fact that it's missing enemies from the roster to originally fit on a N64 cartridge but does have some really good mood setting with the visuals and ambient soundtrack. Doom 3 is dark, sometimes fun, but largely not very hard. Playing it on the hardest difficulty is mostly learning when and how to use the Soul Cube to kill big threats immediately since you will always have at least 25 health. Also this is the only game where armor might as well be useless for how little it mitigates damage. Best plasma gun in the series without doubt.
