This is not b8. RE is one of those big franchises that I never much interacted with. But no matter how many times I've tried, I don't get the hype. The stories are worse than B-Movies. They're trash, completely. The characters aren't much better. Cliches and cardboard cutouts with not even cool enough outfits and looks. But whatever, it's a game series. As long as there's atmosphere, good gameplay, that doesn't matter. So I tried, and... I don't get it. The gameplay's too slow, which I get is the point of a survival horror game. But the atmosphere's so schlocky and the story's so retarded that it all goes out of the window. The immersion's gone when I have monsters made from uber-viruses running around, and my character is able to take them on. It's somewhere between scary and stupid and it makes the idea of it being a survival game into a ridiculous concept. So what's the point? I don't get the appeal. It's like MGS for utter-retards with the coating of stupid zombie movies. The plot never moves forward, the characters are utterly devoid of anything beyond basic traits. Why do people keep coming back? The RE movies are braindead but I get their point. If RE games were action-horror I'd get the appeal. It'd be mindless over the top action against monsters with hot stocky people. Instead it's this weird middle ground that just doesn't work at all. That said, is RE8 worth playing? I like the "haunted castle" angle.
that's a lot of retarded nigger babblethe story is just there for the sake of ityou try to survive, and after you've done it, you try to survive fasterthis nigger wanted to appear smart and made an effort to "critique" a mindless shoot the zombies and don't game
>>736600785I agree OP most of the modern RE games confuse me with how popular and well received they are. The seem like disney theme park rides more than videogames. The originals were obviously groundbreaking at the time and 4 was pretty neat with a cool astmosphere. But the rest of the games fail to entice me even the slightest
>>736600785>I don't get REDon't worry, Capcom doesn't either
>>736600785It's supposed to be over the top and campy and ridiculous. And it's evolved over time, for most of its history now it has been an action game with a side of horror. It's not really a middle-ground anymore. It's not for everyone, you're probably never gonna get it, which is fine. Go play something more serious.
>>736600785What I like most about RE is the feeling that the choices I make in gameplay actually matter. This is best observed in RE1/REmake where in the early parts of the game you are given limited ammo and must decide where you will spend it to clear out certain routes and make them safer to pass through. You could spend your ammo on all 3 zombies in a hallway, or just 2 and leave 1 alive risking a bite when you go back through later, but with the benefit of being able to clear off 1 zombie in the next room, or have ammo to spare in case you run into some unknown enemy ahead. This extends to healing items as well. I feel a lot of agency as a player and I feel like my choices are being respected without much handholding in most of the games. It is rare for RE to be a particularly scary game so I wouldn't say horror is exactly the appeal. It has a horror aesthetic which is really cool if you are into that stuff (I am) but it is not really a "horror game" if that makes sense like Silent Hill would more aptly be described. No two playthroughs of Resident Evil will ever be the same. It is also a lot of fun to do challenge runs (e.g. "no healing items") or to simply replay it to try and beat your personal best time. And then the game gets even more interesting when you are forced to devise faster routes that disadvantage you with a lack of ammo and healing items but are necessary for saving time. The games incentivize this kind of gameplay on replays with the ranking system that is usually in these games and unlocks new content and items to enjoy. In summary I just think RE is a very interactive game although to a newbie it mightn't seem that way with how restrictive the controls etc. are. With all that said, it took me until I was 17 to properly get into the series even though I first played it when I was like 7. But over time I was finally able to go back and enjoy them a lot. I remember being very intimidated by RE games.
what's there to get. Genius world building and dope graphics
>>736600785I'm guessing you didn't grow up playing RE gamesI'll admit that if I hadn't grown up playing RE I probably wouldn't really understand why people like the modern entries in the series
>>736600785Have you play the first 3 Resi games and the remake of the first game? That's what the series is. If you haven't played those, your OP is rendered useless.
>>736600785>So I tried, and... I don't get it. The gameplay's too slow
>>736600785>The stories are worse than B-Movies.That's kino part of itThe fact that's the first thing when it comes to games shows you're probably a nu-snoy fan that loves moviegames
