>>736602479It might be a little overrated, although there was nothing else like it. As everyone knows, the graphics hold up immensely well. While I think people who don't vibe with the voice acting are philistines, it's true the gameplay is barebones. It has less enemy variety than the original and doesn't add anything to the gameplay except for Pyramid Head and the sword. So it was always more like a little sister game to SH1.

If anyone's had the sole responsibility to care for a family member with a terminal illness, they know that the stress and isolation of the experience generally results in some times when you feel resentful of them. You might even lash out or neglect them, but of course you can never share those experiences with others because the guilt and shame is too much.
It's a great game for sure. Not my favourite, but I wouldn't call it "overrated" as much as I would say "people don't fucking play horror games at all if they are not called Resident Evil or Silent Hill". If people played anything outside of these two franchises they would find plenty of stuff that is in my opinion just as great, for example I find myself replaying Fatal Frame 2 and 3 more than SH2, but because people are pussies and have no taste they will stick to just the same handful of games.Also, it has become increasingly apparent ever since the release of Requiem and SH2 Remake that a huge amount of RE and SH fans don't even play RE and SH games. So make of that what you will.

It's atmosphere and concept are too far ahead the large majority of the genre to disparage it like that. it is very effective in spite of its problems.

I've mined the genre heavily and outside of a handful of japanese titles in the ballpark I find most horror has pretty lame, cornball presentation in comparison to sh or is more muted horror adjacent like thief the dark project.
