Brandish was a pretty good Ys-like, but the dungeons can get pretty repetitive. Especially in the second game. Also, the story is kinda shit and barely there. Haven't played the third game yet though.

Rest of the games weren't released outside of Japan, but both versions of Brandish 2 have fan translations. iirc Toby helped with the SNES fan translation. SNES version of Brandish 2 also had to cut some levels to fit on the cart space. I forget if 3 has been translated.
