RTS never died.
The claim that RTS died is absurd. RTS enjoyers have plenty of RTS games with active communities to enjoy. The ones that sit in these threads and complain just simply don't want to play an RTS.
mental omega won
i don't want to play pvp rtswhat are the best singleplayer rts/rtt games
Machinegun viper wheels, my beloved
>>736618430I mean, thats true, but there are also a lot of us that liked RTS and just can't find one that feels right. I liked Myth and I still haven't found a game that feels like it. Which is really irritating. I liked planetary annihilation and Zero-K for a while but I'm kinda burned out on that style too. I want more high fantasy settings. Replayed a bit of war wind, since it got rereleased for free on steam, but that was just nostalgia. Not really a good game. I need like a Magic and Mayhem clone.
There are two types of complaints about new RTSes. That they're either too similar to the old games or too different. Sounds like people only look for excuses to never try anything new.
>have the formula to perpetually print money and have an excellent format where people of various skill levels can enjoy RTS>do literally nothing with itI hate Nexon so much it's unreal.
>>736619262Is RTS the only genre with offensively bad players that take pride in being bad at the game? What fucking RTS you CAN'T play singleplayer?
>>736620229Sounds like there are two different groups of people and nobody knows how to find games they want.
>>736621498It almost like RTS didn't die but experienced divergent evolution and now the audience is fractured
>>736622050it's mostly starcraft, warcraft, C&C and TA derivatives (with anything else destined for an extra quick death)RTS is just not popular with normies at all ever since ASSFAGGOTS took over the niche
>>736620534This, I have zero clue why nobody made a serious attempt at making a MMORTS of that scale>has the usual MMO grindan mechanics that ensure players stay invested instead of dropping the game after beating the campaign>massive battles with many possible "roles" to fill allow both sweats minmaxing their comps to contest POCs (control points) and casuals to fuck around in their little autism corners loading nukes, laying mines, providing logistics or even literally fucking nothing by making a camouflaged meat wall blocking access to the POC and still contributing>no base building - no dilemma about turtlers vs rushers>large unit variety and unit modding allows both gookclick micro-intensive units and slow shit bricks sacrificing gadgets for more raw health and damage
>>736622938it really was everything you could wish for, and the sheer scale of unit customization is still not repeated to this dayeven had a PvE horde mode where you could just fuck around
>>736622938>be like 12 when I discovered the game>know nothing and just happily plant minefields for the entire match or aim my arty at the POCI swear this game would sell like hotcakes
God fuck I can't even get a foothold in against this AI before being buried in missile trucks and rocket kbots. This sucks.

RTS won.
>>736618430>The claim that RTS died is absurd.Aye. It's still alive. Not like during the golden age of RTS games, but it's still alive considering that those games are still released to this day.Why a good chunk of people believe it died is because they all think that if a big company like EA, ActiVision, etc. stops releasing them then they believe this way. Which is BS.There are indies that make RTS games and do so while taking risks. Big companies like EA stopped releasing RTS games because they don't want to take risks anymore.
Nobody will notice the money is missing.
>APM, base building, or micro.>Ever being a problem to immersion and strategy.Play a good RTS.
>>736619262Play SupCom 2. The AI is absurd. I don't think it cheats -- probably just has perfect build orders.
>>736625427What game?
>>736631724ProTA 4.8 with Mostly Harmless AI.
Hows BAR?
>>736632328Fun. I wish it wouldn't melt my PC though.
>>736618430>>736619806People want more from the genre. The games that are played are decades old. It's also really hard to make a game that's competitive with the best games.
Total Annihilation won. RTS will live forever. Starcraft lost. MOBA will die once the plug is pulled.
How do we make the best RTS ever?
>>736634937It's already been made.
>>736634998What game?
You're the king?Well I didn't vote for you!

>>736634937>Attacking while moving > start-stop micro.>2 resources > 4 resources.>Infinite resources > depletable resources.>Techs > rock, paper, scissors.
OK, /v/, what are your absolute favorite things about RTS?
>>736641425RTS.
How do you feel about unit abilities?
>>736632328Amazing. but like >>736632328 said, your PC needs to be strong to play it and it crashes every now and then even if you do have a good PC. If you wanna get in, watch just a simply 10 minute video on how to do an opener, and you are off to the races. Also, play a ton of Glitters and Supreme Isthmus.
>>736643151Mobility abilities (jumping as an example) with a long enough reload time are fine. Offensive abilities should be reserved for expensive (experimentals or whatever the highest tier is) units that have a big impact. Cheaper units that want big alpha damage should just simply have a long reload time.
>>736643151If you are going to make a big scale RTS then they are good when they are sparce and very very niche. The game should focus on the army more than heroes.
>>736630937I hope FAF lives on forever.
>>736637673explain
>>736643625what is there to explain
>>736634998>It's already been made. That's not D.O.R.F you absolute nigger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSziQqeRc1o
>>736643151https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/334920/view/505106153175254923
>>736618356I'm hyped for how well the D.O.R.F. RTS kickstarter is going. They got the required funding on day-1, and they're hitting several additional funding goals, about to hit the one for Co-op Campaign. I haven't played a fun Co-op RTS campaign in a while so I'm looking forward to it, and their map editor is going to include mission-scripting, so this could potentially be a whole new era of Use Maps Settings custom games as well as the community making full-length stand-alone and co-op campaigns. My body is ready. Here's a recent promo vids they made: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/bplQLvYgyD4
>>736632328Really good but it taxes your CPU hard
>>736643151One passive, one active minimum. The active can be locked behind tech. You want to avoid a unit that is just a stat block.
>>736643151Heavily depends on the scale of the unitsIf you are talking about a few dozen units ala Warcraft 3, I think most unit should have an opt in (ie "researchable") ability with a couple plain Jane basic unitsIf you are talking about something closer to Supcom scale with hundreds of units, only the most powerful units should have any abilities and it probably shouldn't be more than 1
>>736619262/v/ doesn't want you to know this but the best multiplayer rts games are also the best single player rts games
>>736619262For single-player RTS, C&C Red Alert 1+2, Starcraft 1 (w/Broodwar), C&C GeneralsFor single-player RTT, play World In Conflict, Broken Arrow
>>736639425So what you're saying is... we need another Dawn of War? Based. Who am I kidding if they ever make another DoW it will be a straight League clone with a maximum of one commander and five controllable units.
>>736647781https://store.steampowered.com/app/2272360/Warhammer_40000_Dawn_of_War_IV/
>>736648309I'm glad to have finally heard about this. I don't read gaming "news" and /v/ only seems interested in Brown Desert this month.
they need to buff handcannoneers
>>736631578>>736647421thanks for the recs bros
>>736649597Also toss on Age of Empires II for RTS, Ostfront II Gates of Hell for RTT
