You don't even need to learn; the single-player side is piss easy. If you bother with multiplayer you're an autist with a penchant for masochism. SC2 is the epitome of gookclick where the game is set to the absolute fastest speed. Everything dies in a second, so don't look away, but don't forget to scroll through your production control groups to keep the flow of units pumping, and don't forget all the busywork like chronoboosting/larvae injects/creep spreading/addon-swapping, and make sure you micromanage your army because every unit (besides the humble zergling/zealot/marauder) has a gimmick.
>>
>>736638497
Don't listen to this retarded troglodyte. Multi-player is the only thing worth playing. Spend your money as soon as you get any. As long as your pumping out production then you are winning. If your getting harassed its probably because your not scouting aka sending a zergling to run around in circles to patrol. Learning timers to make a new base is essential so you dont overextend and waste 600 minerals on a open base. Remembering your key bindings is really all you need to leaen. Everyrhing else is just reactionary. Btw this anon is a bronze retard that probably is doing inhalents and is mad the games dont end in 3 mins like warzone.
>>
>>736637469
Just play the campaigns. Forget about multiplayer. It's a gook click fest.
>>
WoL was the only good campaign
>>
>>736637469
Starcraft 2 is garbage. Just play the campaigns of sc1 and bw.
>>
>>736637469
just play the campaigns and if you like the game and wanna go ranked, train vs the AI and once you've beating it on hardest find a friend that wants to go ranked too

but you'll soon learn SC2 is dead, the SC2 ranked niggers moved on to AOE4 which is a very similar game gameplay-wise
>>
>>736639126
You faggots have been ridiculed for being insufferable cunts since hots released projecting an air of superiority because you spam clicks to inflate apm, as if ladder-climbers aren't a bunch of addicts burning themselves out to prove their worth in the only actual e-sport in the world. Your "advice" is as much proof you have no concept of other because it's as far from information an actual beginner would find useful. Do you think someone picking up starcraft for the first time knows what the fuck timings are? Do you think they even have the slightest notion of what makes a good build order? Or how to adapt when someone bashes in their skull with proxy cheese?

>Btw this anon is a bronze retard that probably is doing inhalents and is mad the games dont end in 3 mins like warzone
My problem is that a game will end in less than 30 seconds if you fuck up an engagement occupied with pointless busywork that isn't even in most rts games. Good luck recovering if you lose a skirmish and can't back out. Good luck if you don't have eight warpgates to replace your flood of blink stalkers with a fresh batch of fodder to delay the inevitable, barring your opponent isn't a retard and throws.

>>
>>736639543
It had some retarded bits, but was overall acceptable. A lot of people don't like admitting that sc1 also had some derp moments in the campaign, like Kerrigan just straight-up lobotomizing the dark templar before the protoss ever got to Shakuras, or blizz handwaving ued tech as super advanced but limited to terran tech levels because of local materials.

Her plot branch is retarded, but I don't care. She's hot.

Just spend your money and then make a lot of two units, that is enough to win games, if you want to try you could look a build order but you don't really need to follow it that close at beginner levels
>>
I only played WoL but I remember it being horribly balanced with slow changes. Every patch each race had a singular unit which was allowed to be good and everyone did the same build order based around it. Iirc broodlords were stupid OP for the longest time.

I didn't play the multiplayer that much back in the day and I think left bronze once and would quickly lose silver rank. I can't imagine how it is now, would even most of the low level players destroy a noobie player?
>>
first you play all the campaigns multiple times to learn about units, buildings, hotkeys
then when you feel comfortable jump into multiplayer. yeah you'll lose a lot. but it's the only way to play
but play campaigns to understand mechanics and develop muscle memory for hotkeys.

Learning the game to play against the AI is easy and learning enough to play against other noobs isn't difficult either but forget about trying to get actually good at it because your competition is autists who have dedicated 10-20 years of their lives to this shit and even most of these autists can't cut it.

learn some builds, follow them closely. Starcraft is less like Risk and more like Poker crossed with Chess. A good build or cheesy cheese can win LOTS of games. Join megaton 4v4 games in the customs lobby, we always need more players, BIGH and NPhase clans are always filling friendly 4v4 lobbies, nearly every night, join the games and have fun, it's a mix of trash noobs, cheese fuckers, and godly vets.

Laddering is only fun if you actually care about ranks instead of playing for fun. There is also BR+Zombies mode in customs frequently which is so fun(it's a team vs ai+zombies with randomized spawn locations[battle royale] type mode). I play starcraft EVERY DAY even if its only a quick match or two
>>
>>736645412
What the fuck even is 6pool?
>>
are the campaigns actually not worth playing?
>>
>>736644467
Honestly not really. As long as you're spending your minerals halfway properly you could probably get to at least gold. Watch a video guide, accept that sometimes you get cheesed and it's part of the learning experience, and have fun.
>>
>>736637469
SC2 hasnt been good since WOL
>>
>>736644467
Low level players are just as trash as you are unless they're smurfing or using a cheese noobs can't counter (like probe stacking)
>>
>>736645451
They're fun but get them on sale if possible.
>>
is coop still popular? that was the only real thing i liked about the game.
>>
>>736638497
The most reasonable reply. These games are carcinogenic, and need to be approached with caution if you try to climb their ranking ladders.
>>
>>736645451
No they're all fun. Even the worst one (HotS) is better than the majority of RTS campaigns out there. Story sucks but who cares.
>>
>>736637469
Learn by playing through the campaigns. After you're done with the campaigns, move on to a different game.
>>
>>736637469

>>

You can still get plenty of matches, but it's kind of boring now. Half the players just use Mengsk and cheese the entire mission with bunker drops. The paid commanders just got too OP.
>>
>>736637469
You don't. StarCraft 2 is a shit game, and Blizzard only made it because they couldn't take a cut of everything KSL built, after having rejected the opportunity to support the league in its infancy.

Starcraft 2 matches just feel like the girl sharting when you're almost ready to blow over and over again. Dawn of War is a much better game becuase the transition from mid to late game is smooth and not an exponential rise in expected APM. They should've taken some pointers from it.

Cheese from SC1. You make a spawning pool, spawn 6 zerglings then rush your opponent doing as much damage as you can get away with. Depending on how shit they were it usually won games early. You can still sort of get away with it, but it again depends on the skill of your opponent.
>>
>>736637469
Play SC1 first. First campaign is designed with the expectation that you've never played an RTS before.

I actually liked the ending of WoL. It was a big status quo shakeup and some nice potential story hook for Kerrigan.

SC1 is 4pool
6pool is for SC2
it means the number of workers you have when start building the swarming pool
which is literally the first thing you do as SC1 starts off with 4 workers (6 in SC2)

and blizzard killed off this strategy in the expansion by giving everyone a fucking army at the start that 6 zerglings can't handle
>>
>>736637469
First we make expand
Then defense it
Hope that helps
>>
>>736637469
Play the campaign then do some bot matches, first 1v1 on easy then once you beat that move up the difficultly. Once you can beat the hardest bot move up to 2v1 easy, medium, hard, etc, then 3v1, etc. Then you can try against people (you will still probably get wrecked at first because playing people is different to playing bots but you should at least have the game mechanics down so can build of of that).

People who play RTSs have usually played thousands of hours of it so are usually ridiculously good. If you're not going to dedicate serious time into the game (like years) you will get destroyed by them which is what makes newbies trying to get into it such a miserable experience because even the mediocre players are far far far better than you at it as a noob and you will get crushed again and again.
>>
>>736637469
>pick a race
>learn how to deal with cheeses and early aggression, especially the protoss cannon rush (extremely common)
>learn unit matchups
>learn a single strategy and stick to it until you are very confident on it
>continue to learn strategies one by one
I would suggest learning how to play a standard Skytoss macro game (Protoss playing for a late game air army). It will teach you fundamentals and doesn't require much micro.
alternatively you could learn an early game cheese yourself and spam it but this won't really teach you how to play the game.
This guy >>736645310 is right tho. it's not really worth getting into the game anymore.
>>
>>736658750
In my experience, playing skirmishes with bots just leads to you developing wrong habits. Because 99% players don't play like that at all and you'll just get steamrolled.

This is true which is why I said playing people is different but since playing people in it you will get crushed so hard it's hard to even work out what you did wrong I still recommend starting with the bots so you at least have a chance to improve before getting ground into dust.
