Is it the greatest rhythm game of all time or not? I feel like it is ridiculously hard to become better at this game and the gameplay also feels very repetitive, I prefer the piano keys style games like Friday Night Funkin'

Moar notes autism for people who don't realize style and presentation was a huge part of OTO/EBA
Most notable chart in some 20ish years of existence is built on utilizing EBA and Ace Attorney sprites to have something other than a compressed to shit music video or static image as the background
Playground for pedophiles too

The charting in osu songs is awful if compared to pretty much any professional rhythm game.

Alright rhythmchads I want to go down the rhythm game rabbithole after having my share of fun with some FNF mods

Is DJMax a good entry point?
>>
It's ok, but I dislike most 'rhythm' games outside of stuff like Rhythm Tengoku. Responding to sound cues and playing along with the rhythm is more enjoyable to me.

Appeals greatly to SEA for some reason.

i had a friend on skype back in the day that i used to talk to while he was playing osu.

It's alright, and nice to have a fan rhythm game that's easy to download songs for. I'd rather play DJ Max, but I don't expect a lot of content for that.
>>
>>736646190
It's fun. Basically every rhythm game is a good introduction because the point is to hit buttons to the rhythm.
>>
>>736644223
Kinda is, but crowd sourcing makes it slop map haven. A good osu track feels amazing to play though, in a way not many rhythm games accomplish.
>>
>>736644223
osu! is a very unique and technical game. Its accessibility and community really pushed the skill ceiling fairly high. Its first years weren't as wild as today's beatmaps. They are nothing like Ouendan/EBA on NDS now.
Although, I think the most complicated rhythm games are those that requires you to actually dance.
>>
>>736644223
I want to try these games. They seem appealing. Where's a good one to start?

What do you mean by "slow?" If you mean scroll speed, at the start of a song hold start and then press any black key to increase scroll speed and any white key to reduce it. There are fancier ways to set it up to auto adjust to the speed you want on every song but it's a little more complicated to set up.

The appeal is that the turntable creates more dynamic hand positions and motions than anything else out there, that combined with the pretty tight timing makes it endlessly rewarding and satisfying. I think the music is fine as long as you're not picking from 20 year old styles.

>autistic note spam charts
Understatement of the century
>>
>>736644223
I like osu! standard, but I hate the music people generally choose to map and I hate the many many rules that kill off any chance at making a unique and fun ranked map. I also hate farm maps and how boring most mappers are due to the many rules and PP existing.
>>
Osu is absolutely unplayable if you are used to proper rhythm games. The charting is awful and clearly done by people with zero grasp of music theory. It's just notes randomly placed all over the screen and without any consideration for the rhythm.
>>
>>736647167
>$500 plastic controller
>arthritis by 30
fantastic game
>>
>>736647331
Thats because of the PP ranking system. If you wonder why the circles seems to be placed with no purpose its because the purpose is making your rank go up for clicking the circles correctly
>>
i picture osu players like that retard that loses his mind while watching the color lights, i dont have the gif
>>
>>736646839
>those that requires you to actually dance
You'd think so but they aren't that serious in terms of technical skill unless you meant DDR/PIU/StepmaniaX
If you meant Dancerush/Dance Evo/Dance Around then unfortunately those are all incredibly easy to cheese, as fun as they are to play the proper way.
>>

>arthritis by 30

>>736647823
I used to think Beat Saber was insane. Then I got a quest and now that I play it, it's way easier than it seems. Might be similar with the dancing games. Using more than just your fingertips borrows you more body awareness so it's easier to read the map and follow the rhythm
>>
>>736647252
i play it when i don't feel like reading notes and just tap to the beat. all the keys count as inputs so the layout is very customizable.

the spam charts though... they look cool but oh my god lmao i'm never touching that shit
>32 keys
>2nd keyboard for feet

The good thing I have to say about Osu is that it is very accessible and served as a gateway for many people to get into better rhythm games (such as literally any other rhythm game)
>>
>>736648126
I like some of the tech maps that aren't just black MIDI spam. My personal favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKUBLupdl6s
>>
>>736644223
Has the same problem as community centric Rhythm games: very inconsistent charts.
Though I find Beat Saber's custom charts to feel better to play somehow.
>>
>>736649018
How do people read this? Are they just memorizing the song or are they actually reading the shapes
>>
>>736649517
Both. You can't really memorize the song efficiently if you can't read the shapes
>>
>>736644223
Osu is an aim game more than a rhythm game thougheverbeit

>>
>>736647167
You sound pretentious and retarded as fuck
>>
>>736652768
by dynamic, do you just mean switching between static positions? what about fun dynamics like crossing over to scratch with your other hand. i imagine there's gotta be a least a few charts where it's the intended technique
>>
>>736647167
at this point just learn to actually play the piano instead of wasting your time with videogames
>>
>>736653016
NTA, what rhythm game doesn't force you to transition between techniques? Such a retarded thing to boast about. The only thing setting it apart is the ugly clunky ass controller.
>>
>>736645709
Nobody plays that game, hipster.
>>
>>736644223
Have 1k+ hours in it
Easy to learn, impossible to master
Never gets old but once you get rusty it's hard to come back and accept being worse
>>
>>736653016
I wouldn't really call them "static positions," but what's fun about the game to me is as you get better and better at it you find yourself coming up with new ways on the fly to better hit certain note progressions when scratches exist in particular places in them. The extent to which that happens in IIDX is beyond anything else out there and it's pretty much limitless, you have your "home base" hand positions but the stuff you'll find yourself doing for single little strings of notes is pretty much endless.

If you want full blown crossing over, look into Sound Voltex. There are fewer hand positions since there are fewer buttons and they're laid out in a more discrete manner but the knobs force you to cross arms over more. I don't enjoy it as much but a lot of people really dig it

>>736653067
You should work on your reading comprehension skills. Particularly understanding what the word "more" means

The circles follow different parts of the song and it can change throughout the song. 99% of the time this is intuitive if you are good at the game. There are occasional moments where it can feel off though either because you and the mapper have different brains or because the mapper isn't good yet

>>736653051
nta but I've been playing the piano for over a decade. I just like (key based) rhythm games as well. And unless you're some kind of prodigy who's been practicing for 4+ hours a day since you were a toddler, playing an instrument isn't less of a waste of time than playing videogames.

It's a good game for women and femboys. If your arms are too muscular, you can't learn to be precise with the stylus. Also, I always hated how you have to hover the stylus just above the touchpad. Not too high cause you'll lose signal, and not too low cause you'll bump into the touchpad. It was infuriating. I don't know how people do it.
>>
>>736644223
chart inconsistency is bad
all of the charts try to make themselves 'uber difficult' rather than fun
many charts do weird and stupid shit like multiple spinners in a row
people feeling obligated to buy wacoms to play this game is retarded

what about 9k beatmania?
>>
>>736661992
Beatmap just makes sense more than a chart because a chart sounds like its sheet music and most music games do not try to replicate melodies or actual presses on an instrument or worse yet a Charter which is basically an official documentation of rules and shit.
