the real issue is the fucking stick drift, trash ass dualsense controllers suck dick. sony should be getting the same amount of criticism that nintendo did for the joycons

Oils in your skin left on the sticks will break down the rubber
Unfortunately even if you vigorously scrub your hands before every session and wipe off the rubber after you are finished, it is inevitable that the whatever rubber they use will still break down and become soft and gooey (just not to the extent as shown in OP).

I've been using the same 2 controllers since the ps5 came out and my rubber is worn down a ton but it's still in good shape. The batteries on the other hand, well I can't use the controllers without using a USB and I'm too cheap of a bastard to get new batteries. Used to rotate them while playing long sessions when the batteries died but now after so many thousands of hours playing the batteries don't even last like an hour after fully charging.

My old duelshock 2 controllers did this. The oil or grease or whatever was underneath the nub and somehow making its way to the top of the nub. I had to wipe it down because it felt sticky like glue as if someone was eating candy and left syrup on the controller. Good to see things never changed with Sony.
>>
>>736648962
how the fuck do they get away with it???
>>
>>736644808
>greasy hands leak oil that the rubber absorbs while heated
>rubber cools down and secretes said oil
>blame it on the controller
Wash your hands and/or stop being a sweaty fuck.
>>
For everyone saying 'wash your hands', it's actually probably the opposite. Whatever protective barrier the material had when it was new is probably broken down through normal use, but the oils on your fingers 'lubricate' and 'rehydrate' the material, so it's not a problem if you keep using the controller. When you stop, it dries out like in the pic.
>>
>>736649608
Your hands excrete oil constantly it's called part of having skin. No matter how much you wash your hands coins will always smell when you touch them.
>>
>>736649734

>>
>>736644863
your hands produce oil and grease 24/7 even if you wash them, dumbass
>>
>>736650214
oil oxidizes over time and turns into a sludge, which gets very sticky as it dries out. that's why lubrication is something you have to maintain, as with oil changes for a car. if you'd ever done a man's work you would know this.
>>
>>736651808
And somehow you convinced yourself oil is somehow sticky. No, it's not. If you have greasy hands, you wouldn't notice a 'sticky controller', which is the entire crux of the argument trying to be made. Clean hands would notice.

It's a thing in humid countries, iirc. I think it's quite common in Japan as well. "Sweating plastics" and similar issues.

On a side note: in Japan (and other humid countries) they can also have trouble with guitar strings starting to rust. Living in a less-than-humid country, I've never had this issue with my guitars. Only learned about it when I watched K-on.

Can this still happen even if my hands/skin are dry as fuck? I'm a germaphobe and probably wash my hands, bare minimum, 10 times a day. I even use lysol wipes on my entire setup frequently, save for a dualsense that was hidden behind my monitors for years. I've always made it a point to wash my hands after eating, too, since I don't like getting it on my keyboard, mouse or controllers, especially to avoid the staining.
>>
>>736655351
>like high humidity places pushing out finger oils trapped in the rubber or something?
I've lived in both arid and sub-tropical australia and I can confirm it's a humidity thing. It's not "water" exactly, the problem is the oxygen binding to the material and breaking the rubber down, high levels of humidity just accelerate the process. Oils excreted by human skin protect it for a while, but any hydrophobic solution will work.

It's because they use rubber coatings that leech their plasticizer from heat or oil/sweat.

The top foot or so of my headphone cord is completely stiff from where it has brushed against my arm over the years, picking up small amounts of oil and sweat.

>>
>>736658043
>the n64 stick was terrible
You can complain about the ergonomics, but the tech behind it absolutely destroys nuSticks. You know it had no dead zone right? It didn't need one. You literally cannot play F-Zero X on any other controller because by the time the stick leaves the dead zone you're turning too sharply and start sliding. It's well known among OoT speedrunners that if you controller has any amount of deadzone you can't do a HESS.

Hall effect is just a marketing meme you fell for.

This happened to my PS2 and PS3 controllers. Initially I thought it was gamer evolved gamer gunk, but eventually it stopped happening on the left stick, but still happened on the right stick. The right stick still has some bounce to it if I try pressing the padding, but the left one is completely hard. I think there's some more liquid stuff in the core of the padding to give it some bounce, which over time might start seeping through.
