>Original game had tons of mystery behind what it is, how everything played out, and even how the core gameplay loop worked
>It released to a divisive reception
>Despite that, the game was pretty good, had a relatively complete story, and explored all of the mechanical ideas without too much else to build upon
>Sequel comes out on PS5 exclusively
>Fans of the original likely bought it there and don't feel the need to also buy it on PC for full price
>People who disliked the original likely wouldn't play it as there's no mystery about what it is in terms of gameplay/story anymore, it's just more of the same for the most part
>Another subset of fans for the original may not have bought it since the original told a complete story and the sequel really doesn't do much to expand things meaningfully, either in the world or in gameplay

I love the series personally and played both games to completion on release. But the sequel is, admittedly, just more of the same. Yes, there are huge improvements to the overall mechanics and systems, but it's mostly just polishing what was already there. On top of that, the story felt unnecessary. I enjoyed the ride, but there was basically nothing that felt like a giant revelation that changed the game's world for me. Sam's story was complete. Arguably Lou's story was also complete. They essentially rode off into the sunset, bad guy defeated, government will do the nonsense the government will do. So returning to all of that, creating pointless drama to justify a sequel, it didn't really do much for me by the end. Lots of cool moments, some interesting reveals, but nothing that felt like it needed to be there.

So, again. Fans of the original likely already played it, fans of the original that felt the experience was complete likely wouldn't buy it, and people who disliked the original don't have anything here that would change their mind. Especially after so much time has passed.

Sometimes that's all you need. Just an excuse to play more of something you enjoy.
If every game I enjoyed suddenly doubled the amount of levels/zones/content they had and did nothing else, I'd be very happy.

If you've played the first game (which was great) you are absolutely not missing anything if you skip the second while also saving yourself $70, and I'm glad PC players listened to PS5bros because Kojima really needed a kick up the arse after the reheated tablescraps called Death Stranding 2
>>
>>736648647

>>
>>736648647
Not gonna bother to check if it flopped or not, most of these threads just lie anyway.
Don't buy $70 games.
Simple as.

Don't get me wrong, I'll play the FUCK out of it when it goes on sale for sub-$30 as I'm a Death Stranding 1 simp, I'm just adamant that no game is worth more than $60, I don't care how much I like it.
Also, play DS on the hardest difficulty, you fucks. The difficulty affects a lot more than you think it does, like cargo balance, battery life, timefall wear, the types and number of BTs out there, durability of all your shit, vehicle batteries, etc. Also there's bonus item drops and some high-difficulty exclusive gear that I feel nobody talks about.
Like, fuck, on Very Hard, the game throws gold BTs at you before you even have a real weapon, so if you DO fight one you're chucking like 6 blood grenades at them just to kill ONE. You get like a thousand chiral crystals from them though.
I also have to shout out the fact I actually wore through some boots. Playing normal mode, even your basic-ass Bridges Boots lv 1 last you the entire east coast and a portion of the central region, and then one set of Chiral Boots lasts you the rest of the game unless you really try to 100% everything or do everything on foot.

>as he types while crying
>>
>>736649237
>The second game is literally almost the exact same
Yup, except it's
>far more forgiving in terms of challenge, penalties and grading
>gives you every type of item/vehicle/weapon you'll need from the beginning to make every delivery trivial
>has ten times more aid from fellow porters dotted around the landscape compared to the first game
>lets you actually increase the already massive volume of porter aid with perks
It's like Kojima thinks we're literally five years old or something. The man's actually fucking senile

Fuck DS2

99.9% of the people who play video games are and get filtered by extremely basic critical thinking/problem solving barriers. People cry about yellow paint but then constantly complain in a way that shows they need games to handhold them the whole way through.

this.
I’m currently playing it and Having a Blast™. Didn’t really need a sequel to the greatest game ever made, but fuck it, I’ll take it. Currently focusing on building the roads and, holy shit, it is the most comfy experience ever. I’m one of the few autists that enjoyed the combat in the first game, so the expanded mechanics and equipments in the second game is a welcome addition too. Monorails are also fucking cool, though I’d much prefer it if it was a straight up train.
>>
>>736649591
I don't even disagree, but it's not going to sell the game to new fans or to people who disliked the first game. Hell, even fans of the original who maybe got a bit burnt out towards the end of their experience may be put off by the fact that it's essentially more, but marginally better.

I enjoyed my experience, but I honestly felt the complete opposite towards the sequel than I did the original. In the original, I was super disinterested at first. I was bee lining to major cutscenes, ignoring most optional deliveries, and generally brute forcing my way through to get to the "interesting" stuff. Towards the latter half of the game though, I started to really sink into the atmosphere. I went back and did more optional stuff, set up roads, got optional equipment, and really enjoyed what was there. By the end, I was sad to see the game close out, but I felt satisfied with what I experienced.

The sequel went completely different. I immediately was excited to get in, enjoy the atmosphere, do a bunch of side content, and just take my time. For a long time I did. But then it felt like the plot was a bit less interesting, the deliveries were more tedious to make in certain spots, some mechanics felt tacked on (animal delivery/capture), and some of the lonely atmosphere was gone with a constant ship of people behind me at all times. By the end of the game, I was skipping some of the optional stuff just to see what it would all result in. And, honestly, the big reveal at the end just felt kinda pointless. It's not offensive, but it didn't really do anything for me.

More of the same can be good, but that can sometimes make a person realize that they really only needed the one-time experience. That they were pretty much set and good with what they got.

Eh. Were I a FOTM chaser, I'd be starting to feel the 6070XT age.
>>
>>736650347
a little bit maybe but most pc upgrades these days are so minimal over even what that build is good for though
>>
Its not likely to flop. Even the original took a long time to sell, but over time became the best platform from Kojimbo's viewpoint (not just sales, but community continuing to play and even obtuse shit like the monthly screenshot competition that apparently on the devs valued for some reason as a metric of community engagement.). DS2 is a direct sequel so of course its audience is only those who played the first game unless you don't give two shits about the story, and that's not likely because part of Kojima's mindfucky kino is paying attention to it. It will probably sell reasonably well over the long tail.

>delays, price
That's certainly not helping. They SHOULD have released it concurrently or soon after. As the game goes on sale every so often its sales will pick up - DS1DC really grew a lot over the long term when the sales continued.
>>
I'm currently playing death stranding 1 which I bought for 15 euros and 100 hours playtime invested. Why should I buy the sequel full price when I can buy it for 15 euros again in a year or two?
>>
>>736648647
I don't care for the Norman Reedus Walking Simulator franchise.
>>
>>736650216
>I’m one of the few autists that enjoyed the combat
the gameplay is great, only brainless tastelets would claim otherwise
>>
My interest in engaging with any of the mechanics, corpus, side deliveries, equipment, pcc, and infrastructure buildup evaporated after slogging through chapter 8. The road and monorails either need the nodes or material requirements cut in half.
I'm just rushing the main quests now and skipping all dialogue because it's the same shit over and over again. Even with all the quality of life menus, they're still console focused derangement. The first game was somehow more memorable so far. The optional cutscenes are nice though.

If it wasn't Death Stranding I wouldn't have bought it at full price despite it being a year late port. I don't think I will ever play GoW/Horizon/Spiderman/Marathon even when it's heavily discounted and I'm glad others agree too considering the abysmal player count. Death Stranding is genuinely a breath of fresh air despite my gripes about it.
