Was I the only one who thought the, "Oh my god, Lou is dead?!" bit near the end came out of left field? I never got the impression that Sam was actually delusional and thought Lou was alive in the pod, I figured he was just delusional she was a BT. The Doctor even says right to him, "Oh, your BB is dead, huh?" and Sam acknowledges it. But suddenly Sam is going, "Oh my god, Lou is dead?!" so Dollman can claim he was trying to act a therapist and not yellow paint for the past 30 hours.

I've finished DS2 and had such a blast so I've got all the achievements of the original game and currently I'm having fun with DC. Damn this game is magical on the second playtrough. Am I only one here?

I also decided to play it with DualShock 4 and holy hell Its gimmicks are working. There Is nothing gaming like rocking BB's pod with It in the trenches of The Great War while Mads Mikkelsen with PTSD Is lurking around.

The whole game somehow is quite the different experience from DS2, desu.

I beat DS2 a few days ago so I've been trying to think of a theoretical death stranding 3. i'm thinking the theme should be "evolution through advancement". whereas 2 focused on combat 3 will focus on verticality. for example, flying vehicles will feature heavily but will be tricky to fly and require lots of fuel. things like wind currents and weather will make it so that flying vehicles are not just a cheap "fly over everything" option, you will actually have to focus on controlling the vehicle.

main story goal of the game is to launch humans into space. scientists discover that the death stranding basically does not exist outside of earth. takes place in Japan with a rocket facility at the summit of mt. fuji intending to launch a rocket into space. start in Osaka -> Kyoto -> ferry to Hokkaido/Sapporo -> Tokyo -> Mt. Fuji. "villains" of the game are Aum Shinrikyo-like cultists who believe that humans are avoiding their fate by escaping, and that humans should stay behind and face the consequences instead of attempting to flee. basically differing ideas of how humans should evolve past the death stranding, similar to DS2. in the end there is a synthesis of ideas: humans go to space, giving them the new ability to quickly monitor and connect most of the earth via satellites. earth isn't "abandoned" but
>>
Why did they change chilled deliveries in 2 ? They used to stay CHILL in the mountains and would only start getting damaged when you stepped outside of snow. Now they get damaged at all times even in the mountains, making trucks mandatory to complete the orders. This sucks ass
>>
>>736679287

ok, so i just completed the story at 214 hours
i was the one who suffered at the hands of the third neil vana
i was the one who was determined to do everything possible before the endgame
after the run at terminal knot i attempted to continue deliveries, but after completing one and thinking it was all good i literally got cockblocked after trekking across the desert with two floating carriers and was told that i couldnt turn a delivery in because endgame reasons
so i just did the end run
i got what i thought was the biggest spoiler a few threads back with the identity of a new crewmate revealed, but everything else in the endgame was a shock to me

I have no idea if this is well known or agreed upon but i just realized last night that the starting area of DS2 is 100% there because of Sicario. The exact sicario border crossing (bridge of the americas) is modeled, and like a quarter of the movie is drone landscape shots like the ones in the intro of the game.
>>
>>736669328
On the Beach suffers a lot from Kojima's self indulgence. i've loved every game this guy has touched but the EPIC GUITAR SOLO and a good most of the cutscenes were fucking terrible
>>
Is the second game worth playing? I played the first one on the highest difficulty and it was way too easy.
>>
>>736692574
Kojima totally fucked it and basically changed the entire genre, so maybe?
I liked 1 and hated otb
>>
>>736692574
If you liked deliveries and road autism you'll like the second game, if anything it feels more like a massive xpac rather than its own new thing. There's a lot more combat and the highest difficulty can be frustrating at some points. The vibes are different, don't go in expecting the same moody vibes from DS1. The story has its kino moments but it doesn't hold a candle to the story of 1.
tl;dr if you liked DS1 gameplay you'll like 2, unless you hated combat

Turn on offline mode. Ever since Steam dropped the "do not update" setting the "avoid updates" actually checks for updates on boot. I don't know why they changed it, but if you're online it'll do the check and prompt for an update.

>>736688934
It's weird they're doing all these optimizations for the Deck that are just making the game run worse for more powerful hardware. You'd think the ultra low settings wouldn't fuck with higher ones, but somehow Nixxes seems to trigger it.

I think it undermines much of the walking stuff by giving you vehicle so soon and terrains hardly ever being a challenge for them. Also the entire "don't kill humans" thing is kind of stupid here when the game is literally Metal Gear Solid V: Part 2 with all the "non-lethal" shit they give you.
I do think it's a better game overall, though. As in, I would rather play DS2 if given the option.

DS1 does have surprisingly good replayability. Recently started an offline run but I had to stop at the Junk Dealer when they announced DS2 was finally coming to PC. Rookie mistake. Sprint through. If you get caught, keep running away. Sam has kenyan levels of endurance and can sprint flat out for like 12km without stopping.
>>
>>736710319
I tried that, reached a ladder and got yanked 50km back by some tentacle and had a whale eat me.
I really wanted to play stealthily, is that just not an option?
>>
>>736710425
It's the intended option. But experienced players who know the movement system can just sprint through BT areas. Not sure why you got on a ladder. Just keep running. BTs can't go over water, btw. Useful to know when you get a vehicle and have to drive by a river with BTs next to it.
>>

I didn't actually get on the ladder, I got to it and then the tentacle decided that I needed to be grabbed all the way back to the burner and raped with a whale.
I had escaped multiple times from the grabby hands at that point.
It really does feel random when the BTs decide to notice me tho.

yeah unless they just wanted Sam himself to be delusional while the player knows Lou is 'dead', its extremely weird. Even as it is, he doesn't really react with denial or anything when people say it anyway, up to that 'big reveal' moment. Whether its Dollman saying the pod is empty near the start + talking about the loss of a child later or Higgs and the Motherhood both saying to his face that the baby is dead.

Hell Sam even says that 'you can't hear me can you..? because you're dead...' line pretty much right after he finds the broken pod. I just kinda assumed he deluded himself into forgetting after the fact, but there's absolutely ZERO way that Kojima or anyone else making this game thought they got away with making the actual player think that Lou was still normal in the pod after the attack.

But I actually figured it out:

F6: Standard Order 544 (To the Jeet) unlocks-> 554 (to F7/Ants, do not Submerge, use a Truck and Roads if possible) -> 555 (F8 300 weight, IIRC. 1375 if S-ranked, 1750+ if you do the MULE/Survivalist base stealth and undetected takedowns, only need 1 for +200 IIRC, more doesn't add).

Instant 5-star.

So now I just have to beat Mr. Impossibles last order within 45 mins. Not sure the order to do all the crystals within that time limit.
>>
>>736715546
Also I should say that the unlocks are instant, I didn't need a timer/waiting around to get them to unlock.

Thank god. The order system this outing is more annoying than anything.

Those hologram rewards are so fucking useless. At least in DS1, the holograms and songs would randomly be assigned to your structures. Now they don't, so you have to waste time choosing them. I'm too ADHD for that.

I did clockwise starting from the camp closest to the Government's shelter.
>Accept the order
>drive to F5 to get in the DHV and teleport to the Goverment
>knock out 2 of the MULE camps and drive all the way to West Fort Knot
>send cargo through the monorail to F2
>use the DHV to teleport to the Northern Environmental Observatory
>knock out the MULE camp nearby, drive and pick up cargo in F2, then drive all the way to East Fort Knot while picking off 3 more MULE camps(should have 6 by the time you reach it)
>send cargo to South Fort Knot and teleport yourself to F7
Rest should be self explanatory. Had like 12-15 minutes to spare with a truck, though for the shorter trips you could get away with a trike.

>>736716264
The post deleted the arrows I typed down so I had to fix it, my bad. You could use the coffin for the shorter trips too but the long stretch between F2 and the Data Scientist/Pizza Chef feels risky with it.

We may not realize it because we play so many videogames but DS has a lot of subsystems and is littered with unique little mechanics, much more than in other games. Manipulating the game is involved, complex, finicky and requires encyclopedic knowledge of the gameplay bits and doodads. Even you expert would be shit out of luck without any tutorials, without the command prompts, without studying the corpus.
Forgetting mechanics is a reality in Death Stranding. Do you remember you can use generators to electrocute enemies?

The other characters literally say the pod is empty, but they avoid saying anything to Sam so he doesn't freak out. Also, when you first go through the plate gate, you can see the reflection of the pod in it and it's empty

BB even loses consistency in the pod as the game progresses until it just becomes a light bulb and then it doesn't light up on its own when your rest. There are visual stages to the pod.
It's cool and all but i just want to yell that i get it, okay? It's like this plot runs backwards from the end to the start.

It's still a bad plot. Especially when everyone and their mother had figured out Tomorrow from the trailers. I didn't need to be spoiled on that one at all. It just saw that Lou had blonde hair/green eyes and oh wouldn't you know it, this woman with an unexplained past just happens to also have them. Couple that with Fragile directly saying she jumped Lou to the beach and it's just weird how long it takes for the reveals.
>>
I don't think I'll ever watch a Hideo Kojima trailer again. I just know it's going to spoil all the plot beats like DS2, or give a completely misleading impression of the game, like MGSV.

>The other characters literally say the pod is empty, but they avoid saying anything to Sam so he doesn't freak out.
Yes. I know. Again, I am not saying Sam wasn't delusional, I am saying the way he was delusional. I got the impression Sam thought it was a BT of Lou in the pod the entire time, I never got the impression he actually thought Lou was alive in the pod. Then suddenly out of nowhere it is, "Oh my god! Lou's dead! Not alive but dead!" "Yeah, Sam, I know, I was supposed to be your therapist and help you ease into knowing but instead I spent 30 hours being yellow paint and doing anything but being a therapist to help you move on."
>>
>>736724726
Higgs also says that the pod is empty the first time they meet and then Sam keeps asking him if he killed Lou every time after.
It's like the ending "reveal" came from a completely different draft of the story.
>>
>>736724726
Like the whole reason Sam goes to Australia is because Fragile suggests it as a way to move on from Lou's death.

>Yet you benefited from his advice like anyone else
No I didn't. His "advice" always came after I had processed the situation and begun to act. At no single point in the game did his "advice" ever provide me with insight, help, or even a new perspective I had not thought of.

The pod plot makes sense but it tastes bad maybe because the way it's told creates a great disconnect between the way Sam sees it and how the viewer sees it. Wrote before that it put me behind the eyes of Dollman looking at this lunatic, no matter what this should never occur, he's my main character. There should have been a narrative point when Sam meets me where i stand OR keep it a secret, do an actual reveal that way i join Sam where he stands in the narrative.

Detail about the story which is cooler than the pod.
After Lou dies Sam kills himself over and over again until he runs out of bullets, increasing chiral density in the area and this summons the BTs seen in the segment, then he gets shot from off screen like in a war movie. Most of everyone took this event as some dream sequence but it's not. It's likely Mexico Knot dispatched an assassin or somebody desperately tried to stop Sam because he's brewing BTs dangerously close to the city.

I really didn't feel like I was playing as a man grieving loss. There were a few scenes where Sam was distraught. But then once they were done, Sam had the emotional depth of Super Mario. Deliver the package bing bing wahoo! 100 likes! Dead child? I forgot all about it!

I think that if your kid had been murdered, and you had long hikes to be alone with your thoughts, you'd probably break down once or twice crying on the path. Maybe that didn't happen cause Dollman was there to distract Sam by telling him useless bullshit. Instead, Sam was just alone, with some thots.

There's nothing to get. It's a game that wants to be a cargo delivery simulator with a bajilion minute mechanics to use and master and a feeling of unseen cooperation, but also a mainstream widely approachable game that makes most of these mechanics shallow and superficial. You can point to almost anything in the game and get an idea of how a simulator would design around it, then turn around and realize any interactions you have with it are highly curated and often avoidable. All the walking, load and resting mechanics get gutted when you get the bike, shoe durability or fatigue don't matter when every place has a printer and every other a resting room, sharing cargo is borderline pointless, you're told to bring ladders and ropes, yet can navigate just fine without them and the one place that'd be a pain gets a ladder shared in. The intro cinematic makes a whole deal out of how timefall bad, but in-game, it just wears down your cargo damage resistance, and if you're not blind, you're not gonna be falling anyway. And you don't get the option to wait it out until later – but once you're able to, there's no cost to doing it.

Lockne/Mama was such a cool character. Easily the best “tech nerd girlboss” I’ve seen in any vidya. She was my favorite character in the game, followed by Deadman and Fragile. When I realized only Fragile made it into the sequel I got a bit bummed out. I remember after barely escaping Higgs’s ambush when you’re transporting Mama to Lockne, I let Sam and Lou rest and Sam sat Mama (still in the bodybag) next to him. Then when I started soothing Lou, Mama also said something like “Nice BB, good BB” and I thought it was such a nice detail. And the whole walk to Mountain Knot she keeps encouraging you and saying things like “You’re not alone”. I fell in love with her after that delivery. Her “death” or whatever kinda confused me a bit but I eventually came to terms with it and accepted Lockne as Mama herself, since they’re supposed to be the same person or whatever.
>>
>>736721775
was it explained what heartman did with her supposedly non-decomposing body?

>>736722015
Lou’s new theme “Are you there” makes sense as the game sort of telling you that Lou is gone. I don’t know what the aim was exactly. They make it explicitly clear Lou isn’t there but also make it look like she might still be in there, which she clearly isn’t. I think it kinda works if you think of it as Sam just coping with loss and being on the denial stage of mourning. You just have to keep an open mind to Kojima’s antics, which I recognize is a tall order

It was mostly miscommunication. Remember Lockne’s and Mama’s reproduction systems got split or whatever the fuck, so Mama had to carry Lockne’s baby or however that worked. Then the voidout at the beginning of the game happened and Lockne and Mama lost contact with each other, and Lockne interpreted that as Mama running off with her child. As soon as you bring Mama to Lockne, the two telepathically communicate and Lockne understands how wrong she was. She made a mistake, anon, don’t be so rude

I do have one problem with the combat in DS2, where the FUCK are my armor pads??? No, battle skeleton isn't the same thing. Why do faggot survivalists get to have them but not the player? Coffin mechs also have a digital looking deployable shield. There's a few things that enemies have the player doesn't have access to ever, and that makes me seethe. In 1 I used to put on armor pads and go wild on demens, in 2 it doesn't feel like I can do that because the slightest hit can be game over.
>>
>>736733096
In that case it's unlikely to have been an assassin but instead a surveillance squad camping out Sam from under a stealth techno-tarp. The city would know what a repatriate is so they're containing the Sam threat.
When he hallucinated Lou and reached for her it was probably a BT baby so the sniper shot him to repatriate him or just stop him in his tracks, he was about to void out reaching for that BT on the ground.
Maybe even Fragile herself because she did show up right after the scene.

Yeah I'm not mad about that one because we do have a deployable shield, was just thinking about the one the coffin mechs have because it looks cooler. Survivalists can also whoosh horizontally out of the way with their stabilizer, I got cucked out of a few melee attacks because of that. Now I never tried the max level stabilizer in 2 so I may be wrong, but I don't believe sam has access to this kind of moves either.

Someone said to knock the camps out first, do a hot spring rest (so you don't rearm the MULEs), and then hit them with no issues. So I'm trying that method first. I gotta clear one more camp (the snow one near F6) and then it should be golden with the truck and/or board.

Oh man, I was thinking about that too but you can literally just use the silenced tranq rifle to get all the cargo without alerting the whole camp, except the first MULE camp. If you want to be extra safe that would work but just so you know 5/7 cargo especially the last one in the mountains aren't located in the middle of the camp so you can just waltz in from the side and grab it easily, or tranq like 3 guys to safely grab it.

I was honestly shocked to be able to run the game on ultra (without gaytracing) on this pc I bought in 2019. Only thing that got upgraded is the GPU. Runs smoothly between 60 and 90 fps, with the occasionnal bad stutter introduced with the updates. I set the fps cap to 90 because when set at 60 it gave me weird stuttering that doesn't happen otherwise. First game I have ever used DLSS for though
>>

The updates have all been terrible. On day 1 I could run the game at a solid 60fps with DLAA, now I need to use DLSS and still get frame drops.

>Why did DS flop so hard as a franchise?
As much as I love the games, I hope DS2 is the end. I'd rather see the series go down as a "hidden gem" duology than get turned into KJP's flagship franchise like Metal Gear. Kojima's already leaning way too hard into Metal Gear references and "Kojimaisms" in the Director's Cut and DS2 which he didn't do in DS1.

The scene where Sam is back at his shelter in Mexico and he tucks Lou into the crib and it's just a teddy bear.... damn son.
I'm surprised both that both games have kids that get shot/die. That rarely happens even in movies.

It's a little over the top emotionally, but I really liked the scene where Higgs has Sam in a death loop and the women save him and hug it out in the rain afterwards.

Gameplay wise it's a straight upgrade in most points, downgrade in some others like basic things from the first game not included or made worse (looking at you material compressing bullshit). I enjoyed the crazy fun vibes but it's certainly different. I hope the original draft for the story is revealed at some point, so I can be mad at how better it could have been. If there ever is a third game it needs to be massively different
>>
>>736756007
>If there ever is a third game
Never ever. Kojima is about 5 years from death and he's already got 2 games, 2 movies, and a TV show to make. KJP is done once he's dead. No "USB drive full of ideas" is going to change that. Look at Konami.

Yeah, I found that out the hard way. I've been seeing if it's possible to hit the 45 mins without warping, but it seems like you need to and the board (even with a Level 3 exo) only carrys 4 of the items, so you're going to have to either truck or monorail them while getting the other 3 to grab them on the way back.

If you use the board, you can cut times a bit massively since you can just "bayou taxi"/ride the rivers past BT areas. My issue is that I didn't clear the Aero request so BT's are in the area where you can cross the mountain near the East Observatory to where I keep getting grabbed surfing up the mountain to cut times to reach that camp.

I'd be within like 30 mins if I could, which means it's probably possible to do it without warping, but I might just throw in the towel and warp over there and make a board to grab before warping (I think Cargo in the backpack can warp?) to F5, trucking all of it and hoping to hit the S-rank.

He's just worried since a lot of people are retiring, but I can see a DS3 happening. He basically left the door open for it.

The issue is, anything that is a sequel to Kojima's games has to have someone that "GETS" Kojima. Even the stuff he didn't do anything but manage (Boktai, Zone of the Enders) needed him to oversee it. Like, he let the MGS4 team go wild with Metal Gear Rising, and he STILL has to oversee cutscenes/theme by giving it to Platinum for the "cut... at will" mechanic.
