RE has always been popular, it's been one of the most popular series since it's inception. The "worst" game in the mainline series sold 15m copies worldwide. The current state of video games, unfortunately, has TONS of social media presence. You can consume youtube videos, shorts, tiktoks, and of course streamers playing the games. RE has interesting elements, some likeable characters, and set pieces that just catch peoples eyes. It has great music, great character designs, the combat can look fun. It's got everything it needs to be popular. And because of social media, people often dont have to play the game themselves anymore to FEEL like theyre fans/knowledgeable. It can be exhausting though, lots of these new fans will argue and come up with theories without having any info. Like the idiots who say the Commander from RE9 wasn't Hunk. Or the WORST type of nufan, Ethan Winters glazers.
