Sf4 had tons of content, characters, impressive balance, and online play. What did sf3 have other than muh graphics and muh evo moment 37?
>>736675130SF fans had grew to love such members of the series such as Ryu, Guile, Chun Li, Cammy, etc. SF3 took away all of these characters and the ONLY reason Ryu and Ken made it was because the fans fought for them. We eventually got Chun back as well, but the fact that we still lost damn near everyone was still somewhat of a low blow to the fans. As if that wasn't enough, alot of the new roster wasn't even fully original, but rather, just cheap evolutions of previous characters. Remy is Guile and Sagat. Necro is Dhalsim and Blanka. Etc.
>>736675130Alot of players, including pros, disliked or outwright hated SF3S due to how it was at high level. Zoning, crossups, blockstrings, these are all common things at high level play for SF (and most fighting games at that). SF3's parry killed off that stuff. Try a crossup? It's either parried or blocked. Throw a fireball, it's parried. Blockstrings? You risk being parried and punished hard. It turned SF3 into a complete guessing game. I actually have a hard time watching most high level SF3 matches now because they're so boring. At high level play, it's basically whiffing moves for meter, fishing for parries, and looking for that c.mk into super. Not really what most players want their game to become.
SF3S was one of the most poorly balanced fighting games ever. Some people even debate it being less balanced than MvC2, under this argument: "MvC2 had 56 characters. Out of those 56, only 10 were viable for high level play. SF3 3S had 20 characters. Out of those 20, only 2-4 were viable at high level play. Now, though MvC2 had a larger roster, it still had more viable characters than SF3S, and certain characters could become viable if paired with the right assits (such as Strider Doom).
Urine and Gill BBFs makes TURD STRIKE superior
Sf4 introduced the Focus Attack system, which adds layers of strategy (baiting, absorbing attacks, or extending combos with fadc). The 3D art style was unique, provided fluid, detailed animations that maintained a 2D fighting plane, and enhanced the intensity of the matches by enabling the cinematic ultra combo animations. It also meant you could have costumes which was a win.
Sf4 brought back every sf2 character while also introducing some cool new characters like juri and abel and poisonYou can play whatever you like but 4 was the better game.
>>736675384Sf3 killed the genre, sf4 revived the genre. Simple as that. Sf4 is better
>>736675130I had a great time with SF2, SFA3 and even SFEX2. Although i never seem to get into SF3. I mean, 3 had such dull character- and move-design as well as no personality. It was just kinda bleh to me.At least with every other game in the series, even SFEX/SF1/SFTM, I have gotten *something* out of them, even if that's just a few cheap laughs in vs mode or something, whereas when me and my friends originally played SF3 when it hit the arcades, not one of us enjoyed it at all. I can't really explain why (other than not liking the majority of the new characters etc), it's just the way we all felt at the time, and subsequent playing sessions on it when it was released on the DC and later on the PS2 just did nothing for any of us. I even tried to convince a friend of mine to start playing the DC version with me a while back to see if we could finally get into it, but after an hour we both agreed on turning it off so we could play some SF2. I know so many people that swear by the game, and that all laugh at me and certain people I know for not enjoying it, but that's just how we feel.Sf4 felt like a return to form
Waiting for the day an essayists explains why turd strike fucking sucked and sf4 was goated. All these zoomies larping as boomers pretending that sf3 was some beloved game and that its awesome pisses me off so much. I WAS THERE, WE ALWAYS HATED THE GAME!!! IT GOT MOGGED IN ARCADES BY A STUPID TRIVIA GAME! NOBODY PLAYED THE FUCKING THING.IF YOU WANT TO PRETEND TO BE A BOOMER GET IT RIGHT: WE LIKE 2 AND WE LIKE 4, 3 IS FOR POSERS. EVO MOMENT 37 IS A MEMEFuck parry, and fuck the "new generation". World warriors ftw,
>>736675130I dislike characteristics of both.3. Parry, making anti-airs a weakness. Ryu's kit is so shit, because fireballs in this game are useless, and you risk receiving a full combo if you anti-air with your classic anti-air tool. Maybe if air-parry had push-back it would've been better, and if parry had a small whiff animation. There's no drawback on the guess most of the time. All that said, without parry the game would've been even worse. Hugo would be unplayable.4 is too defensive, it's so hard to open people up because there's no drawback to blocking, and it's full of OS tech, so throwing is also out of the question. A guard meter like the one in Alpha 3 would have been great in this game, if it didn't have so many vortex setups.Still I played them for hundreds of hours, but I would've never been into them without arcades. I stopped playing fighting games when 5 came out.
Personally I liked SF3's mobility more than IV. Movement felt much more risky and I didn't like playing aggressively in that style of game. But I feel that way about CvS2 as well. Also I think the combo philosophy changed considerably between the fighting games of the early 2000s and the late part of the decade. There was a shift towards longer, execution-heavy combos in the latter part of the decade rather than fast, short confirms.
Honestly KoF XII (not even XIII, just XII) had movement closer to what I like in a 2D fighting game over what SF4 offered.
>>736676563>4 is too defensiveSf was always about neutral and footsies nigga>it's so hard to open people up because there's no drawback to blockingJust throw them, faggot>and it's full of OS techSo was sf3, parry created a million different os, you hypocrite>so throwing is also out of the question. You never played>A guard meter like the one in Alpha 3 would have been great in this game, if it didn't have so many vortex setups.Guard crush blew ass>Still I played them for hundreds of hours, but I would've never been into them without arcades. No one played either in arcades, larper>I stopped playing fighting games when 5 came out.You never played, you just watch essays, zoomer

>>736676927>So was sf3, parry created a million different os, you hypocriteNoone knew about that shit until way after. Why do you think Daigo won the first 2 evos? he knew about shit that wasn't known in the west.>No one played either in arcades, larperlol, it was the only place to play 3 and 4. Online was trash, shit felt like playing underwater.>Guard crush blew assNice argument.>You never played, you just watch essays, zoomerI'm 40 and feel like I'm talking to a 15 year old.
>>736675130Sf3 has superior graphics and a far more rounded roster without unnecessary clone characters
nothing, it kicked off the fighting game dark ages, no one actually like third strike
>>736677471>>ultrasNot worth complaining about, its just another super>>decapreAnother cammy whats the problem>>elenaPlay super sf4 ae>>yunBlame 3s and 3s fans>>chip winsLike super kamige 2 turbo>>delaybased netcodeDelayBASED, no this sucked but you should invite friends over to play or go to locals, online is gay>>fadcIts cool as hell
>>7366775924 shotosAlmost entirely rushdown or footsies with 2 grapplers, and no zoners3's roster IS THE WORST of any finished sf game.
>>736675130what a disgusting and deceitful little shitstain you are. street fighter 4 was reviled until Super, then AE and especially Ultra brought it back into the gutter. almost every point you bring up in your samefagging posts is either false or so reductionist that it's effectively false. there's good reason why 4 and 5 are completely irreverent, forgotten, useless while Third Strike is understood by all with over 95IQ to be the GOAT of not just street fighter, but all healthbar 2D fighting games. there will never, ever, ever be a SF4 revival the way that Third Strike randomly has all the time, especially not after the failed abortion of Ultra. and no, no 'muh essayist' is going to save you, what an absolutely ridiculous brocolli headed cope.
>>736677691This
I feel like hitboxes make more sense with 2D sprites.
i like 3s because i like yun and ibuki. i like sf4 because i like yun and ibuki
>>736678125In fact, there will be a Fourth Strike next decade that adds all the best classic and new SF characters with perfect 2D sprite work in the original engine. And idc that crapcom will use AI to make it happen. You will sit there and seethe for the rest of your entire life as Street Fighter 3 GAINS relevancy and popularity over this century! Cope forever and ever!!
>>736676927>Sf was always about neutral and footsies niggalol lmaoxD even
>>736678579wow nice one clip from one game that really helps your argument
>>736678748>one clipThere aren't any clips from SF6 without neutral skip every 5 seconds.
>>7366781253s is a good game, but the poor balance and demphasis on spacing hold it back from being potentially better than super turbo. Mechanically 3 wasnt that inspired of a game, only super interesting thing was parry.Target combo is just chains, step dash is worse than full run, super jump was in every snk game beforehand, personal actions were a pretty useless gimmick, wake up roll isnt interesting, ex moves are just to facilitate juggle combosBut i think sf4 glazing is a big fucking meme, like fa and ultra are just scrubby and irrelevant and fa just exists for fadc which is JUST combo extension bs. Sf4 newcomers suck, and sf4's balance by ae wasnt impressive either. Sf4 just fails to offer much of anything over 3 other than... world warriors are back but i couldnt really give a shit, like vega is unusably bad, and t hawk always suckedAnd in addition to hey, sf4 has this os bullshit and its overly defensive yada yada, the you have things like vegas multiple 1f hit confirm, or t hawks proximity normal that whiffs, shit like that is retarded, not that other sf game dont have some shit like that but sf4 fans would have you believe that sf4 is somehow more intelligently designed than other sf game when its not really the case3 at least had a cool roster, and had the best batch of newcomers out of any sf game. And in defense of its balance, there were few players to effectively beta test the game unlike sf2 which was a cultural phenomenon and also had this kind of annoying balance philosophy of counter picking characters, and even then while you can see any character at top level in 2, o sagat vega chun and rog and sim were all bullshit and cammy struggled hard, gief and blanka struggled hardAnd if you actually look at sf3 majors you find dudleys and makotos and urien making it high up all the time, yangs and akumas too, even ryus like, the sf3 balance meme is kind hyperbolic, yeah id give 2 but... im out of characters and rambling
>>736678579Its boring as fuck not being able to close gaps.
>>736676563>Ryu's kit is so shit, because fireballs in this game are useless, and you risk receiving a full combo if you anti-air with your classic anti-air tool.Ryu mid-high, fireballs can actually give you advantage on parry if they go on long enough and nobody is that good at parrying everything to not being able to do shoryukens unless your gameplan is that simple. You just have to use all his tools.
