The people are unable to comprehend tank controls because they are literally incapable of envisioning the room from the character's perspective. The fixed camera doing whatever frame of the room somehow tricks these retards brains into thinking they should be following the camera's perspective and not the character's perspective. Newsflash, the fixed camera is their for artistic reasons and for horror purposes, not for you to fucking follow like an idiot. I am ashamed to be in the same generation as zoomers who can't into a control scheme it takes 2 minutes to get a grasp of. Just fucking awful.

>>
>>736709254
I agree except for "it's there for artistic perspective"
No it's not, nigga. For games made PS3/360 era onwards, maybe, but back then? It was there because they'd only need to model every room from one angle. Which cuts down on cost and time.
Of course now, especially in like God of War 3, I will admit that it had become a stylistic choice. But mainly because the tank camera would move and create visuals like riding Gaias fist into Posiedon.

working within constraints has a lot to do with art. what makes a classic oil painting what it is? the fact that they had oils and dyes, and no computers or printers. what gives each musical instrument its distinct characteristics and sound? the fact that it's not a synthesizer than can generate every other sound.

so whether you say they did it for art or did it because they had to, is the same thing. working within those constraints are what led to the choices they made to make the game play well in that context. removing the limitations so that designers don't have to think about things like playability or presentation, they just kind of wing it or try to invent a system of gameplay with as little structure as possible, with the only limits being ones that they deliberately put in solely for artistic reasons, as if their hollywood reject brains can come up with anything close to that level of sophistication. which is what led us to this age of 3Dslop. physical limitations are a good thing because people are not gods who are good at creating great things out of nothing, we are just good at solving problems that exist here on earth. if you give people a tight polygon budget they will make great pseudo-3D games. if you give them unlimited polygons they will just shovel out aimless 3Dslop with highly detailed non-interactive garbage. this has been proven by history.

artists are forced into doing things they don't want to do all the time
that's where the "limitation" in "limitation breeds creativity" comes from
they may not have wanted static angles, but what they DID WITH static angles is the stylistic choice, how they use it to frame each perspective of a space and how they use that framing to lay out sequences of events and vice-versa
"static angles" is not there for artistic purposes, but the individual angles they selected are

Tank controls and old RE camera angles are the same brand of ancient shit as turn-based RPGs. It was all just born of technical limitations and NOBODY would have consciously chosen those things if they had the computing power or design skill for the alternative at the time.

so how is this zoomers fault exactly? the ones buying and praising the neo-remakes, buying these games, are people older than 30+, IGN critics and reddit fag boomers/millenials that say that the remakes are a much needed improvement over the originals because of this and that, zoomers (not the brown ones) are actually the ones going out of their way to play the originals and enjoy them as is. scapegoating everything onto 'but but it's the zoomers' is absolutely retarded, you're not even pointing at the real issue, blaming it onto someone else for no reason and this will keep being a problem because you refuse to do some self-refleciton
>>
>>736709254
Is playing with inverted controls also a sign of high IQ?
Seems dumb to me. I think games like Examina that make use of those experimental physics based controls are the best gaming ever gets to feeling less robotic whilst at the same time suffering something similar to clunky control schemes. This is just simply down to: where you move is not where you think you move. It's not particularly interesting. Or perhaps you could say God Hands controls were an interesting deliberate use of something a little little clunky because of the way it takes over traditional movement. Although its really just about combos so meh that idea could be done better too.

The N64 port of RE2 had an optional analogue control scheme like in RE1remake too. The tank controls feel best when moving around rooms normally and the analogue movement feels best for avoiding enemies. The reason being that the analogue movement isn't very good when moving between camera angles, but the smoothness of the movement makes it easier to weave around obstacles in the same room/camera angle.
Tank controls actually feel better in non-fixed camera games like RE4 and Godhand in my opinion.

> t. PhD in neurocognition
It's not just limited to seeing things from another perspective, there are a whole host of cognitive capabilities that aren't found at lower bands of IQ.

Below 70 people can't model other people's beliefs or perspectives. Can't emphasize with others. Poor impulse control. High suggestibility, etc.

Below 80, can't do recursive thinking or cognitive empathy.

The belief that humans are fundamentally 'equal' is deeply flawed. There are people out there that just lack a whole toolbox of thinking capability.

You'll never get funding or support. Academia is highly feudal. You serve your supervisor, your supervisor has their own fiefdom (domain) and maintains it by applying for grants, which are supplied by government or industry.

You follow the money. No government will accept eugenic based research. It's just not going to happen in this day and age.

But, as an anonymous academic, I can secretly tell you why some groups have higher intelligence than others. It comes down to genetic makeup. There are three main human subspecies, homo sapiens, homo sapien neanderthales and homo sapien denisova. Homo sapiens are 'pure' humans, which have no neanderthal or denisova DNA. The purest human group are the Khoisan Bushman in Namibia, and they lack many fundamental cognitive abilities of the neanderthal mixed group (Europeans, Asians, Americans). Denisova are similar, having a different mix of cognitive abilities (PNG and Aboriginal Australians).

We essentially have three human subspecies mixing together, all with different cognitive profiles based on our genetic lineage.

I played all re games with tank controls when I was a kid and had no issue with it. Somehow replaying them now feels more difficult. With the amount of time I spend glued to my phone, after 25+ years I must have lost at least 20 IQ points.
But really I can play tank controls fines, my issue is that I dont have a controller for my pc, so I play on my lenovo legion go s, and on that handheld the d-pad is placed so that the hand has to adopt a weird stance which is uncomfortable fast. Tank controls on joystick are much more annoying because if you push a diagonal too far, your character just stops and turns in place. I wish there was a way to fix that, it would make tank controls perfect.

I played Alone in the Dark and RE back when i was like maybe 11 years old and never had problems grasping the concept of practically any and all control schemes. I can immidiately feel when a control scheme is complete ass though, as there were some games that completely botched the way the controls worked (like Chase the Express...) and others were just janky in all the worst ways. I think a lot of this discourse surrounding control schemes just has to deal with people having poor motor and spatial skill, so they blame the control scheme for those failures.
