I am tired of people trying to trick me into thinking this is a good game.>But the STORY is goodNo it's not. It's emo and it sucks.
Hi-technicaaaaaaaaaaaaaal
>>736712094Sticker Star was the next one, so this looks good in comparison. Apparently, people praising it have forgotten the 25 part code or the level that's the same room copy-pasted 100 times.
>>736712094The story isn't that good but it's definitely interesting in how far it's going for a Mario game. TTYD had a better story despite it being simpler though.
>>736712094I was hoping that someone would remake it in 64's engine now that it is decompiled, or even before with mods black pit has dimentio as a boss so it could work, but I guess it is too much effort
>>736716484Might as well make a new Paper Mario RPG like those Bug Fable guys did
>>736712094>>736714821>>736713010I'd honestly say SPMs story is pretty bad at delivering its story. I don't see how its much different to Sticker Star in delivering a scenario 99% of the time.Other than Chapter 2 or 7 the story of a chapter doesn't really advance between levels. You basically get hit with the chapter's premise in the 1st level, run through a bunch of levels, which either you get a Pixl or one of Bleck's henchmen pops out just so you have a miniboss just so "something" happens. Then in Level-4 you get a bit more exposition and a boss fight. The only difference is that you get treated to Bleck's sob story and a bunch exposition from Merlon or Bleck himself going >"Oh that stuff what just happened? It's in the prophecy bro!"Every time you beat a chapter.
>>736712094Wii doesn't have any good games
>>736716814>I don't see how its much different to Sticker StarLet's not get too crazy here.SPM has progression and a sense of adventure. It's only flawed in some ways>the Romeo and Juliet stuff isn't all that interesting, it's generic and flashback only>2D worlds means the worlds feel like levels instead of inhabited placesThat aside, there are things happening and heroes doing things, actually "dying", going to hell, coming back to paradise and seeing their ally "die" because she was always part of the McGuffin. You've got a world being erased and the heroes seeing the consequences. You've got battles with the enemy's minions and they all have some kind of personality.I don't love SPM but it does some things right, it just lacks balance (and real gameplay)
Remember back then when people hated Super Paper Mario and then Sticker Star came along claimed that title? Good times. SPM is innocent and free of the New Soup Aesthetic that plagued 2010s Mario.
>>736716906>That aside, there are things happening and heroes doing things, actually "dying", going to hell, coming back to paradise and seeing their ally "die" because she was always part of the McGuffin. You've got a world being erased and the heroes seeing the consequences. You've got battles with the enemy's minions and they all have some kind of personality. All that shit is from two chapters anon. and they literally destroy a world with basically zero compelling characters in it. Even the character who sacrificed themselves is back after the ending. The battles against Bleck's minions other come out of no where other than chapter 2 and they don't even tie into the chapters narrative other than chapter 2.Chapter/World 3 of Sticker Star arguably has more of a narrative throughline than any SPM chapter. Just unlike SPM it doesn't use the appearance of high stakes as a crutch.
>>736717075>is from two chapters anonI could go on, other chapters have other interesting things happening. Francis kidnapping your Pixl is funny and interesting enough (not on the level of a TTYD chapter but not too far), the enslavement chapter with Mimi is awesome... Only the space one is really lame. Most of the chapters at least have an outline going for TTYD style shenanigans. It's not on that level but it's certainly far above the dogshit Sticker Star trilogy which is pretty much the bottom of the barrel. Paper Mario could have recovered from SPM just fine and SPM could have been a funny little experiment spinoff, SS sealed the deal.
>>736712094spm was never good and paper mario peaked with ttyd in 2004
>>736717180>Paper Mario could have recovered from SPM just fine and SPM could have been a funny little experiment spinoff, SS sealed the deal.Yeah this, it's worth mentioning that SPM atleast respected the first two games legacy by acknowledging them with catch cards and keeping the pit of 100 trials in. The next games fucking trashed any mention of the previous Paper Mario games, like they were ashamed too be in the same room as them. Not even a tiny reference.
THEY SAY TO FALL IN LOVE,IS TO BE TRULY BLESSED!WELL, I HAVE LOVED ENOUGH!MY HEART, FLY OUT MY CHEST!IF THIS IS WHAT LOVE CAN BRING,WIPE THE TEARS FROM YOUR EYES!NOW ONLY BLACKNESS SINGS!NOW DESTRUCTION'S ON THE RISE!
If it had the controls and physics of a proper 2D Mario, it would shitstomp at least 90% of the mainline games.
>>736717330I still think SPM is what caused nintendo to backtrack so hard into the "safe" mario designs for years, specially since I assume most people just say "super" and "mario" and thought it was a new mainline sidescrollergod forbid people have to READ in their bing bing wahoos platformers
>>736717476Nah it was New Super Mario Bros DS and New Super Mario Bros Wii selling 30million each back to back. Paper Mario just appears to have been hit hard because it veered further away from any Mario game at the time. It was pretty undeniable that the standard series iconography was actually more popular than anything. If Paper Mario was selling 30million when even Mario Galaxy was selling 10million then the series would have become more like it.
>>736717476It's a lot of different factors, SPM wasn't the only Mario game that went maybe a bit too far in one direction, but either way the horrible state of the franchise goes far beyond the scope of reason or a reaction to SPM.
