As suspected, Marathon's budget is bloated as fuck. Bungie needs a minimum of 6.25 million copies each sold at $40 to even dream of breaking even.

Also how do these generic multiplayer shooters cost so much
It's not a massive MMORPG with 23068235 quests all fully voice acted, where is the money going

If this game was so good, why couldn't organic word of mouth from the players save it?

How do you even spend that much money a multiplayer game with not enough content
Eastern Europeans could've made 4, 100 hour long 8/10 games with that much money

Embarrassing! Forknife was f2p and CS & DotA were fucking community mods. All of these games have/had CCUs in the multimillions, yet Marathune is scrambling to keep it above 4 digits. Lesson learned is to make a standout SP entry like HL or WC with basic MP and mods and just let the community cook.

>~300 developers worked on Marathon (confirmed by game director Joe Ziegler)
5-6 years of development (started ~2020, shipped March 5, 2026). Fully loaded cost per AAA dev in Seattle: $150K–$200K/year. Do the math: 300 devs × 5 years × $175K average = ~$262 million. The widely circulated $250M estimate checks out. And that's before marketing, which for a game of this profile could easily add another $50–100M.
it really is that grim, shilloids. lmao

It's British English, Americans would just say "cost".

Enjoy it while you can, British anything is basically an endangered species these days with how enthusiastically the UK and Europe are handing their countries over to the 3rd world.

The British citizenship test has questions about Islamic theology.

The idea being that you can't be British anymore, unless you're able to navigate Muslim culture.

>300 devs × 5 years
What were all these people doing for half a decade? It's not like they came up with some new paradigm that would have taken a lot of time to experiment with to make work. Everything in Marathon is something that has already been established in the industry, aside from the art style. Like they don't really do anything remarkable with the extraction formula, and the gameplay is the same sprint-ADS-shoot that has been pretty standard since the late 00's. And how many maps did it release with? Like 4?

Because they spent more money on bribing and paying off reviewers and streamers than doing simple effective fixes that would make this game good.
>>
>>736728316
>genuinely, what exactly is the issue?

1. All weapons are hitscan.
2. "Bullet magnetism".
3. Aim assist on controllers and consoles being effectively an aimbot.
4. Inability to disable cross-play on PC.
5. Inability to disable cross-play with PC users who use controllers to benefit from aim assist.
6. Thermal scopes effective at all ranges, and not being affected by rain/fog/steam/environmental heat sources.
7. Sound propagation (like being able to hear someone opening doors/containers) while being 30 feet outside.
8. Spawn points being too close together, especially on Dire Marsh.
9. Game being too rewarding for engaging in PvP and not sufficiently rewarding for engagement with PvE (xp values and faction progression).
10. Visuals (moth eating 'pillars and such) being too repetitive.
11. Blue colour during loading screen being too intense.
12. Combination of visuals and music can give migraines.
13. No epilepsy warning.
14. Exceptionally unrewarding battlepass.

15. No PvE mode.
16. "Experimenting" with duo mode.
17. Weekend availability of Cryo and ranked.

18. BattlEye.
19. Cheaters and hardware hacks.
20. Inability to block players while in-game. You can only do that after you've completed the run and found their name in the "recent players" tab.

There. 20 reasons.

No, /v/ has generally agreed that Marathon's dev costs were between $200m and $300m with marketing, outsourcing, and everything else being separate. Some anons try to lump in the $3.6b Sony paid for Bungie as part of Marathon's cost, which isn't accurate. Sony's still never getting that $3.6b back though, lmao

Sony are happy to bleed $4-5 million per month keeping marathon open just to avoid refunding 1 million retards. Dunno what the "no refund" legal timer is but after it expires they will just close the game lol EoY i bet.
