It's been 16 years. What's your honest opinion on Heavy Rain?
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNN!!!
X
David Cage is still yet to make a single good game or vaguely well-written story.
Some fun moments but among bad writing and scenes that actively waste your time, so the usual for David Cage.
>>>/tv/
An abortion of a game and story that is fortunately at least very funny
>>736743617The closest he got was with Omikron, his first game, everything else was very forgettable like Heavy Rain or downright trash like Beyond.
>>736743507It somehow always worse and worse than I remember. Thanks Nimi.
>>736743617Fahrenheit had some potential at the beginning
>>736743507i only remember two things about this game, the agent running through the market while failing every QTE and the obvious JAY-SON/SHAAAUUUN spam that you could do while in those segments>the videos where it's glitched and you can hear muffled "SHAAAAAAUN" in the distance
JASON!
>>736745554Yeah the first couple of minutes of the game seemed promising.
It makes me a bit upset how back then gamers just mocked the SHIT out of this game and David Cage's pretentious bullshit meanwhile modern "gamers" are so used to movie game trash for console audiences that if this came out today everyone would be soifacing hard and /v/ would have constant threads claiming that the game is for "high IQ cultured smart gamers" and that you're just a mindbroken stupid shitskin who hates videogames if you dislike it
I thought it was interesting until the "David Cage twist" had to happen. At least in Indigo Prophecy it was fucking hilarious what the game transformed into after Ethan falls to his death, but Heavy Rain just has you wondering why Shelby did half the shit he did.
>>736745284>Omikron, his first gameFun fact, his first video game project wasn't Omikron, it was the video game adaptation of fucking TimeCop of all possible things, he made its OST.
normgroid slop
>>736743507Heavy Rain is probably the best game, if you ignore the ridiculous plot holes in the last 15% of it. And I guess Detroit can be good depending on the story path you choose.>>736745284>the closest he got was OmikronAre you out of your fucking mind? The game's plot is a barely comprehensible mess, the gameplay sucks, and I would call it borderline impossible to beat if you weren't using a guide.>>736745554The first scene was interesting, but it just goes downhill from there, and fully jumps the shark when you start doing Matrix moves to escape the cops.
>>736746195>The game's plot is a barely comprehensible mess, the gameplay sucks, and I would call it borderline impossible to beat if you weren't using a guideI would say filtered if it wasn't true. It's still his best game though:Omikron>Fahrenheit (1st half)>Heavy Rain (until killer is revealed)>Detroit (Connor & Hank's route only)>Fahrenheit (2nd half)>Heavy Rain (Rest+DLC)>>>>>Detroit (other routes)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Beyond
>>736746530The only thing I'll say is good about Omikron is the full, crazy scifi world they made for it. Everything in the world is a mess writing and plot wise, but I appreciate them making a unique setting. All of Cage's other games are just contemporary shit with light scifi and supernatural elements.
one thing that struck me is how lowbrow and stupid the writing is even by game standards. like most games rely on stupid cliches and dream logic, it's almost baked in, but you'll usually see writers try to compensate in some way, try to inject some kind of smarter twist on its genre. as dumb as mgs is there's usually a codec call that manages to be charming or lampshades a trope. heavyrain is just always the most generic network tv procedural cliche you could imagine one scene after another, it goes for the lowest common denominator cliche every single time.
>>736743507CUNT!
JASON
>>736743507I 'member the kid bending backward into a Jojo pose and the edits of it.
The video where the guy keeps losing the QTEs during a chase and completely loses his shit lives rent free in my head
I'm really glad David Cage stopped making games.
>>736748883Isn't Quantic Dream trying to make a Star Wars game?
>>736749117Yeah I hope he's not writing the story.
>>736743507I never played it
>>736749334Just go watch the TBFP Let's Play.
>>736743617Eh, most people that hates David Cage games hates it purely because of him. The games are completely fine, otherwise.Might as well hate Dragon Quest because the dead composer made most of the good tracks in the series.
>>736743617Heavy Rain could’ve been good but then he HAD to add Madeline, Norman, and Scott. It would’ve been MAYBE fine with Ethan and Scott, as retarded as Scott’s entire story is, but having to juggle between Ethan and three completely unrelated characters, one of whom turned out to be the bad guy all along in the most retarded asspull plot twist, is just fucking stupid. Should’ve just been Ethan
>>736749386>people shit on the games’ retarded stories because the creator is also retarded No shit
>The balloon.>Gotta get the balloon.
>>736749386These games are 90% interactive stories. Guess who writes and directs the fucking stories? Cage does, so if someone hates the game, it's because of something Cage did.>>736749459The original Heavy Rain ending had psychic links and other stupid shit before someone told Cage 'No, stop being a retard.'
>>736743507first time i watched a game livestream, someone here was streaming it before launch dayhilarious as a community experience, i can't imagine how dour it is to play solo
>>736745734But we do have threads like that. That’s literally every nu-Gow and TLOU2 thread.
>>736749386>fine gamesthey are movie games with abysmal writing, I don't know if that qualifies as fine
>>736743507A somehow entertaining trainwreck.
>>736747827https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMCmZ0RQuLUlmfao, I lost my shit when he threw the chickens at the guy. You just know this shit would be hailed a cinematic masterpiece these days.
>>736743507SHOES FOR SHAUN
>>736743507I like it more than anything he made after
