What made Dark Souls such a hit?
PS3 having no games forcing normalfags to finally try FromSoft titles.

Dark Souls ruined gaming forever.
>>736772538casual fags experiencing their first game over screen.
It was the original friendslop
>>736772538It wasn't. Only 500 or so people played it before 2 came out and everyone (including you) hopped on the bandwagon.
>>736772538Above average difficulty and innovative multiplayer
The lore
>>736772962Yes and like most games, people don't make it past the tutorial let alone further than that. Seriously, check achievement stats for any game
>>736772538It didn't handhold you in an era where handholding was rampant
>>736772538Influencers who made it seem like a once-in-a-lifetime experience that can and will change everything you know about gaming. It was indeed a real video game in the era when interactive movies were the accepted mainstream norm.
braindead audience
>>736772538Multiplat majick and the fact that it was marketed in the West as a 3hardcore5u game, something Demon's Souls wasn't fortunate enough to be labeled as
>>736772538The animations and combat, simple as. Rolling. Distance management. The delay after pressing the attack button. It's a game that's challenging, but can be beaten by anyone who cares enough to try. Also, it's a GAME. Not a modern game, if that makes sense.
>>736772883thats gaia online and neopets thothats habbo hotel tho
>>736772538/v/ made it popular
>>736772538Why do you care?
>>736772538A lack of standards and the belief anything Japanese is good.
>>736773497it was made by japs but had very little in the way of jap influence outside of including their gay sword and the one fruity androgynous character (gwyndolin). the aesthetic, combat, atmosphere and characters were very clearly western inspired
Realistic wolf graphics (yes, sif was considered an amazing technical achievement)
>>736772538The extremely streamlined and handholdy gaming environment it released in. The game is really easy as fuck but the fact it offered even the slightest friction and rewarded a little persistence was like a nuclear bomb going off in the zeitgeist
>>736772538it's just good
how do I wife this creature
>>736772538I love how the world is connected.I love how the world looks and exploring it for the first time was an incredible experience.I love how there's no time travel until the second half of the game, at which point you've already explored all the main areas enough, so that it doesn't feel like a drag to have to keep going through them. Games like DS1 and Gothic did fast travel correctly.I love how you don't have your hand held with quest markers, yellow paint, on screen messages and the like.I love how the game is actually challenging, yet you can still get stronger and actually feel it.I love having different weapon and armor options that also play differently. Not a fan of games where you have your main weapon and that's it. Just upgrade it and get used to it, regardless if you enjoy playing with it.There's definitely a lot of other reasons I love it, but I'm too lazy to keep writing, so suck it.
>>736772538Even though the story wasnt spoonfed, people could subconsciously feel the weight and history to everything. Genuinely the closest any game has come to feeling like the Bible
>>736772538They pioneered so many things like async multiplayer, non-intrusive storytelling and interconnected 3D world
>>736773131>It didn't handhold you in an era where handholding was rampantThis.Perhaps a lot of you cunts are too young to have any real perspective (not a slight, just an admission of my rapidly advancing alzheimer's and your likelyhood of getting drafted for another jew war in the middle east), but 7th gen was game design cancer for vidya. First person shooters lost basic things like health, resource management became a thing of the past, RPG's were insanely dumbed down with Mass Effect/Skyrim, racing games introduced shit like "suggested lines", everything went to shit insanely quickly and Dark Souls, and Demon Souls felt like early generations which was enjoyable for us old fags and something new and challenging for the youngfags who grew up with a lot of slop.
>>736774890Oh yeah this too definitely. It was the dark ages of gaming and I lost interest in games until Dark Souls. Sadly we're back in the dark ages again, waiting for another Dark Souls
>>736772538The player-hostile design philosophy which was totally rerefreshing in an era where video games where turning into movieslop where you watched more than actually playing the game. It's also important to note that the game was not popular at all when it released and took years of players shilling the game everywhere before it finally became mainstream.
>>736772929You're probably thinking of Demons Souls
>>736772538good game
>>736772538The memes
>an actual real video game comes out in the era when playstation was fully transitioning to movie games of course it was a hit
>>736774890Everything became so linear in 7th gen. FPS, third person platformers/action adventure games. It all became cinematic, X to awesome trash.
