I still fondly remember my first encounter with this game. I was looking through the bargain bin at a local store. And The covert art instantly caught my eye. That, combined with the name "Monster Hunter" just seemed so badass to me, that I bought it without even reading the back of the cover, to find out what kind of a game it was, as I had never heard about the series before.And it blew my mind, how good it was. To this day, it's one of my all time favourite games.

I don't even care that the underwater sections suffer from objectively bad game design like the lack of proper depth perception or the ability to dodge, or even the fact that some weapons like the lance are objectively overpowered thanks to blocking and rushing. For me Tri is the last classic monster hunter. I feel like 3U completely robbed Tri of its soul with saturated graphics and random monster. The crazy part is that I didn't even play it on release or on original hardware for that matter, but its trailers got me to buy MHFU which was my first MonHun.

3U is obviously way better, but as someone who played them during their release, Tri was so awesome. It was such an improvement over dos, and overall just had a super cool vibe. Underwater combat, while not perfect, was unique and cool. Some weapons were really fun underwater like lance. I think the issue with tri is that people contextualize it in contemporary times vs "holy shit the wii got a mh game!"
