>guess we ughhh... just kinda forgot
star trek already did a space global warming plot in the 90's
>>736783238its still more interesting that just yet another >AI BAD plot
So what? The mass relays would have still blown up at the end but we would have gotten a different colored explosion which would magically fix the issue with dark energy.
>>736783156Mass Effect 3 committed much worse sins than dropping the secret agent negress.
>>736783238The one where they found out that warp travel was going to destabilise and destroy the galaxy so they set a speed limit at warp 6 that you could only exceed in an emergency but no-one really cared and it was quickly forgotten because after all the klingons and the romulans aren't going to obey it.
>>736783619wasnt that precisely the antimatter plot? remember having something to do with the quarian niggers
>>736783156
>>736783536it all started in 2
I'm still mad.
>>736784394It was basically Gurren Lagann. Mass effect drives make the universe all fucky so once the dark matter meter gets too high, the Reapers come and kill everyone to reset it to zero
>>736787086that sounds way better than what we got
>>736787086That'd be insanely gay since like 80% of reaper tech runs on mass effect anyway. Why the fuck would you leave the mass realms up?
>>736788264From what I remember they were meant to be waiting for someone to figure out a solution. Thousands of years with no fix=reaped
>>736787086>>736788264>>736789821Yeah, the original idea was basically a retelling of Asimov's "Let There Be Light".But the original series' writer, Drew Karpyshyn, was reassigned to work on TOR because it was turning out to be what it ended up being. That left Mac Walters and Casey Hudson to figure out what the Reapers were, and ME3's ending is what we got.
>>736783238>there have been warp capable species for thousands of years and whole galactic empires to rival the Federation>the homeworlds of the Big Three have to be just as full of ships as this shipping route in the ass end of nowhere>somehow this is the first anyone has ever heard of the issue and the only place with any physical proofIt didn't do it very well
>>736792169I don't think it was a problem until everyone started tearing around at warp 9.
>>736792383Nobody does though. Only seriously advanced ships like the Enterprise can even get close to Warp 9 and since the warp drive's matter/antimatter reaction is kept in check by a finite supply of dilithium, going flat out everywhere would only waste one of the few resources you can't replicate. It's just one of those times they decided the story took precedent over the established setting, and it's wasted on a shitty story.
>>736783536>>736786886It all started in one. Everything with Saren and Sovereign should have been a big old red flag these hacks had no idea what they were doing but just like how JJ Abrams made a successful career baiting clowns with mystery boxes the masses never connected the dots and were shocked the next two were just as bad as the first game, just without the mystery shit distracting them.
>>736783156Bioware never had good writing
>>736783156dark energy isn't real
>>736793594They never had good direction. They knew this was going to be a trilogy with things carrying over and yet they made zero plans or attempts for it. It's why two was so weak at anything mattering was the writers of one never thought two minutes past the end of the first game and so when the second rolls around they have no clue how to regulate dev time around those choices. If they thought about it a little harder they could have tailored ME1 with actions and choices that could shape 2 more meaningfully, but even with ME2 they once again take no thought of that and while they make a fantastic stand alone game with the suicide mission concept it just falls apart for a trilogy because no you have to account for 10+ characters deaths and what impacts that has in the third game. 90% of games suck in story and the few that are "good" just understand design well and just help the player along in what story they want to be a part of.
>>736793034>write a prequel novel about Saren>have Anderson give you the CliffNotes version in the game>absolutely none of it matters or is mentioned again after that
>>736786886It started with 1 writing themselves into a corner with Shepard and Anderson/Udina promising the player the fight isn't over and the Reapers are coming. The Reapers are too powerful on their own and there'd have to be thousands of them to facilitate galactic harvest that there's no way to defeat them without some Deus Ex Machina like what the dark energy plot would have lead to and what the Crucible ended up becoming. The Reapers are the single worst aspect of Mass Effect and things absolutely would have turned out better for Mass Effect if they weren't in it.
>>736794391im talking in general, they never really made a well written game, but yeah, they obviously had no idea what to do after ME1. I guess they didnt expect it to be such success
>>736794464You get it. You absolutely resisted wafiu baiting and "choices" and saw the gaping flaw that was a story of bring in a rouge spectre (something that the game world claims has never happen before) is just some flanderized villain that bit off more than he could chew, you could put Malak from Star Wars in that spot and -nothing- changes. Between that and "we are beyond your comprehension" people should have been shitting all over this game but it let you make an attractive version of yourself and sleep with aliens so people just ignored it.Fans really got what they deserved.
>>736783156the dark energy plot is just as retarded>reapers found out that mass effect kills stars>instead of banning the technology they decide to wipe out all organics >but only after they discover the mass relays we built and used the mass effect for a couple of centuries
>anons ITT learning that BioWare are shit at writingHaha, better late than never!
>>736794658>never really made a well written gameWe could both count on one hand the amount of well written games out there and I bet they be all before 2010. Most games that succeed in the story do so by understanding the goal is player agency with a sense of things having value. >they obviously had no idea what to do after ME1.No they didn't have any idea what they were doing with ME1 either. Like most players you missed the warning signs, likely because you were like most ME1 players and you never touched Biowares other games. A lot of the older fans saw how bad things were going to get, but because games giving you romances and choices were so rare in the mid 2000s people would just shit on us for noting how bad everything was. As stand alones, two and three overall have better writing than one but putting together as a trilogy it's all just an awful mess because all three of them oppose each others story.
>>736783238star trek fucking SUCKS
>>736783156they shouldve just stick to our crew and small scale stories like in 2
>>736783156God damn, the remaster looks like shit lmao
>>736796691This. 2 has issues but it benefits from saying fuck the stupid Reaper plot and just gives you a fun romp with great characters>BUT MUH DADD-The entire cast but Kaidan has daddy issues in 1 as well, non issue.
oh yeah in Star Trek you occasionally would have throwaway lines about how they were permitted to go to Warp 9 or something because normally spaceships weren't permitted to crank the engines to maximum or else it causes damage to space. (they couldn't break Warp 10 because then the ship was going SO FAST it broke physics and you either time traveled OR you ended up devolving back in to fish-reptiles like what happened to Tom Paris and Captain Janeway one time)it seems like probably only one writer was trying to push that gimmick in to the setting so it was generally ignored.
>>736798682Most Bioware games companions were mommy daddy issues >KotoR >7 followers >4 have family issues >Bastila it was mommy issues >Mission was her brother>Zaalbar was his dad>Ordo was a dad figure Jade Emprie>six followers >three have family issues>Dawn Star was her farther >Silk Fox was also her father >Black Whirlwind was his brother Someone at Bioware's writing staff had some family issues to work out. Oh and side note someone fucking loved the trope of family man who's wife dies and they find new love in the MC Because they do that 5 times.
>>736798682Yeah but 90% of the loyalty missions were explicitly about solving the crew member's daddy issue
>>736799267The majority of their games are about solving npcs family issues. Kotor and DA:O lifted from Romeo and Juliet outright. If you take all the family issues out of their games I think ME3 is the only one standing as a whole game.
>>736799267>90%>Jacob's is>Miranda's is>Garrus' isn't>Mordin's isn't>Jack's isn't>Grunt's isn't>Samaras/Morinth's involves mother issues so I'll give it a pass>Thane's is about his failings as a father so I'll give it a pass>Tali's is>Legion's isn't>Zaeed's isn't>Kasumi's isn't5/12 is less than half. Even without the dlc it's still not 90%.
>>736800234anon, i think you might be autistic
>>736800234>excusing Samara and Thane because they're the source of the parental issues insteadLame.
>>736783238>mentioned one time in the next episode with "we've received emergency authorization to exceed warp 6">forgotten after that
>>736801379>>736798920TNG was not big on overarching continuity in the way DS9 was. Unless it was explicitly a two parter what happened in one episode to the next very rarely connected, the only big example otherwise I can think of is when Picard has been rescued from the Borg in Part 2 and the very next episode is about him going home to deal with it. Of course they dropped the Warp Restriction thing. It's not how they wrote the show and it's now how they aired it on repeats, either. If it had been a plot point in DS9 it might have made it a whole season before they got sick of it.
>>736783156They need to make Batarians playable in 4
>>736794576The Reapers are just a hacky Babylon 5 ripoff anyways, with the Citadel being Babylon 5 itselfToo bad ME didn't learn the main lesson from B5, which is to write your entire story out before you start it, or else it'll end up being very obvious if you're flying by the seat of your pants, especially in a story with CYOA aspects to it
>>736801737They wouldn't restrict themselves with old lore if it would block the story they wanted to write. The whiny autist in me wants to criticise that and demand more internal, cross-episode consistency. But they probably made the right choice for entertainment.
How anyone can be excited for ME4 is beyond me Not only are all the devs from the old days gone, 2 and 3 weren't even particularly good games to start with. They were dudebros first RPG that only got popular because "WOOO ALIEN SEX WOOO" After that latest Dragon Age, coupled with the extended dev time on 4, its going to be an absolute shit show
>>736803492ME5, for whatever reason Andromeda is actually suppose to count
